Mr keen, I saw you at billy Bob's with my wife, we where so amazed with you . You are a great guitar player and singer, I had just bought a brand new resistol 1250.00 . I took it off and you signed it for my wife. Thank you for autograph. And thanks for your commitment to texas music. It sets proudly on a hat rack on the wall. By the way we have a lot of your music now. We love you. Thank you sir and be blessed.
Thanks Acoustic Guitar for featuring REK. He's been a Texas treasure for quite some time. It's crazy how old he looks now; that can only mean that I'm not getting any younger.
Love ya, Robert Earl Keen, all the way from an old guy (well 70..) in Dorset UK. Listening to your music through an illness, made it worth it :-) thank you...thanks too to Acoustic Guitar Sessions for bringing this...
I've been a huge fan of his since I was a kid. Seen him live 2 or 3 times...one of which was in a parking lot in downtown Fort Worth's Sundance Square, where there's now a plaza with a fountain. Never been to a show where so many people threw their beer cans on the ground. There was enough crushed aluminum to recycle into an airplane by the end of the night.
Right? I love watching peoples brains work. Sometimes they are self important and full of shit and other times it is brilliance. But always fascinating. Incidentally, he once said in a concert that Mr. Wolf and mama bear was written about a small town political situation he unwillingly became a part of.
REK, re:Mr.Wolf and Mama Bear............you were either drunk on your ass or stoned, or maybe both when you wrote this song...........but at any rate, I LOVE it !! I've been listening to you since the days of the "Sons of Herman Hall" ( I was there !! ) , seen you in concert more times than I can remember! Love you !! Keep on keepin' on !!
Mr. Keen, will you please give an explanation in your will and testament either on your tombstone or obituary? I know this sounds morbid, Just a reasonable request. I am 41 and have been a REK fan since i was 14. I first heard your songs on 92.1 and some small station out of Victoria headed toward Rockport. You are the stepfather of Texas music! Bob Wills is still the King!
To me -- growing up Texas, I worked on several ranches and this is just the way it was. Robert is just a couple years older than me, and I am thinking he wrote this probably in the 80's. I have heard him play this song live probably 15 or 20 times and never heard him cloud it up with politics.

I thought the exact same thing.
Love your music Robert Earl wish I could play like you one day
Mariano has always been one of my faves.
not gonna lie... I'm a tad jealous of that Collings guitar. Beautiful hand made instruments that play like butter.
Mariano is intense...what an amazing song and performance. He seems a bit surly at the beginning...also very cool!
I agree with his mom. Mariano is one of my favorite songs of REK to play on the guitar.

REK has been my favorite for many years, and I'm not even from Texas. lol
+Jeff Danner i"M FROM CORPUS CHRISTI, WE LOVE HIM OUT HERE!:)
+Ricardo Santos IV So... Could you stay sober? :P

+Jeff Danner - You just got made an honorary Texan.
Thanks, I finally got to see him last summer, amazing.

Was that 2004? I saw him live there along with Roger Creager, Reckless Kelly, Jack Ingram. Great show and setting...hot as hell though.
Some, I like everything they do, thank God for real music !
I would love to read the guy's breakdown of Mr Wolf and Mama Bear

This has always been my favorite REK song. So real.

rather listen to Robert Earl than watch anything on that damned ole TV!
Very Townes'. But I love it. Thanks.
Robert. My Bandera Poet
That first song sounds just like Townes Van Zandt's Waiting Round To Die
I don’t hear it.
I was at least 5 then this song came out . It made me so sad not knowing what it meant
Actually Robert Earl, it sounds like you might have smoking some dope with Mr. Wolf! lol
Story Songs !
Collings?
Yep, Collings OM2H
Wearing a Hill Country Goat Herders Hat
Hill Country goat herders hat. Yessir. He needs some "cedar chopper" overalls.
A songwriter at the same level of Dylan and atom Waits.. fucking brilliant
😵🙀🐸
I think the first song was bashing immigration law. Nice tune though.

@@wadecollier4757 the music is inherently political. that's part of why it's so important
