- Texas-based songwriter and guitarist Ray Wylie Hubbard stopped by the AG offices while on the road for his excellent new album The Ruffian's Misfortune.
Watch Hubbard perform "Mr. Musselwhite's Blues," "Stone Blind Horses," and "Train Yard Blues," in his singular style of of gritty, bluesy country.
In between songs, Hubbard reveals how his forthcoming memoir, A Life...Well, Lived (out November 2), came to fruition and that it includes such stories as him meeting Muddy Waters in his late teens and being kidnapped by Willie Nelson's entourage.
He also talks about his role as an innovator in progressive country, and his favorite guitars.
What a brilliant musician with a down home personality and his band is phenomenal☮️

I just finished "A Life...Well, Lived." Get the book and enjoy the ride. Judy Hubbard's contribution in the last chapter is perfect insight to close out the book. I wish they were my neighbors so I could come over and strum guitar with them and watch the sunset. My wife gave me the book and a Ray Wylie Hubbard T-shirt for my birthday. By the way, we have his very first album - no, not Twinkies, "Three Faces West," signed by all three members for my wife when her family used to watch them at the coffee house in Red River NM.
Ray Wiley... so damn humble, too damn humble about his music. All that interviewing talk-- crap, the singing and playing is where we know and appreciate the man's work. :)
A real original. One of the best. Go to his shows and you will understand why.

I was lucky enough to see him September 21st at The Harvester Performance Center in Rocky Mount Virginia. Ray, his son Lucas and Kyle on drums. It’s a small venue in a small town and they played their hearts out. It was absolutely awesome. It will remain one of the top memories in my life for sure. To be able to shake his hand and tell him thank you was a surreal experience.
Ray and “Old 97’s” are the only people Dylan can’t say “I Don’t believe you” too ...
