First generation electric cars were widely available from the 1890s until the 1920s, and were easily more popular than gas powered cars in their first 15-20 years of production. There you go. It even had a proposed option to convert it to an airplane on the fly. It was showcased in EPCOT's World of Motion Pavilion for years. It also had a projected fuel economy of 200 mpg! For the life of me, I don't know why they never pursued this further! Oh wait, the oil companies probably had something to say about it! I really wish BMW had kept up the micro car line and other manufacturers had done so as well because that would have reduced a lot of fuel consumption from people who got a normal size car who lived by themselves hardly ever take people with them and don't mean much room to carry stuff
You stated that the one electric car developed was in the 1940s ,I would like to remind you that electrics were made as early as 1925 . They were designed for easy travel for short distances,the Electric failed because women loved them ,and competitors decried them as women's cars and sales to men were not there .
With specialized iPhones costing $2000000 I do not believe it is possible that the most expensive car could have only cost $2000000... just saying a car can have a lot more functionality than an overpriced phone...
