I feel like we need a podcast to decry consumerism and materialism. If I buy you a gift, I promise that it doesn't mean I care more or less about you as a person, I'm just participating in a hollow tradition which was inserted into our culture by corporations a hundred years ago when they still held the benefit of the doubt in our culture's minds.
I think you guys need to give wet dry a shot. I’ve been gigging on one for 7 years now and it has been a game changer. First - you can’t half fast it. You need an in phase and ground lifted rig (see radial switchbone). You also need to relinquish control to the sound guy and make sure you have an option to run mono that you can queue up on the board if the situation calls for it. The amount of clarity a wet dry rig brings to your sound (when done right), is an absolute game changer. A good engineer having access to a completely dry amp allows them to really dial in to the room. I gig both with my own bands/ engineers as well as do occasional hired gun work. It’s been exceptional in every environment.
i feel like there is a revolution going on right now, especially in the bass world, of trying to get a super versitile rig on a nano or small Metro board. Every post i see on bass forums or groups is people saying, "I shrank my board!". its pretty refreshing to see so many people trying to get the most they can out of a more simple rig
A well organized set of bags, cases, a well executed pedal board ready to plug and play.... Look like a pro, play like a pro, be prepared like a pro. It's my pet peeve. When I unload at a gig, my stuff is checked, tuned, and ready.
Rhett mentioning the two rock pluggin having that “nothing to hide” kinda feel made me remember really good amps are like that. I’ve had a divided by 13 EDT 13/29 for around five years now (my only amp) and recently got into online lessons and just been using an interface and whatever amps in GarageBand, then when I go back to my amp think “oh man I’m having one of those sloppy playing days!” But it’s probably just going back to something that doesn’t cover my bruises
I still lug two low wattage amps around for gigs, an old black panel Bandmaster and a Swart. They fill in each other’s EQ gaps and I get a better spread at lower volume. It is a lot to haul to a crappy pub gig, but at least I’m bringing a backup amp.
Rhett, I totally understand what you don't like about the Tube Screamer. I sent my Ibanez TS808 reissue to AnalogMan for the Sliver Mod and it sounds so much better. It has more clarity and less mid hump. Wampler Moxie with the Voice switch engaged is also worth checking out.
They didn’t post the link though. I went straight to the video description as soon as I saw this. I wanna see more pictures, or even a video demonstration.
I`ll have to agree and disagree on the wet/dry/wet topic... let me explain: wet dry wet = way too much - nice for self indulgent happiness - impractical Stereo = not that difficult to set up - sounds brilliant for rehearsal and recording - not great for live, doesnt translate to PA Wet/dry = this is easy to set up, sounds brilliant on stage, easy to set up on front of house as well - only downside is carrying two amps (amp and modeler is a good way out) - diminishing returns havent really hit here it is way better (imo) direct to amp = simpler, easier, faster, fool proof. doesnt give you the same depth (imo, not even close) to wet/dry. but well, whatever works for each of us!
The EQ thing is interesting. There are so many places you can change EQ in your signal chain, in individual pedals, an EQ pedals, amp settings. How do you know where to change things? Might be an interesting episode or tutorial video
Except the entire description. They’re A2, not ceramic and not particularly hot. He always does this. He mistakes those for 498’s and just spouts bullshit based on some LP Studio or Custom he once had.
@@jefffletcher2614 Yeah? I guess I don't know much about their construction, but I do know that his description of their sound tracks with my experience. Don't like them.
If you are looking for a great ODR Special pedal, look no further than from the original circuit ODR designer The Nordland Electronics ODR-CS Custom Special, it is an AMAZING pedal and my go to overdrive.
Accessories are good gifts, but it’s really hard for non gear heads to shop for a person with GAS. I bought a friend a string change kit recently and he loved it. Might be best to draft a wish list and distribute it
My OCD is triggering with Rhett on the left facing and talking to no one... please, next time, have Rhett on the right so it actually looks like you're having a conversation with each other. 😅
I worked at a newspaper once, and that was the rule-- always have the headshots face each other, or if it's just one person, have them look towards the center of the page, not off the edge. It still bugs me when that gets ignored
not sure if it's wet/dry or switching different amps in and out... either way, he's playing venues that are really big, uses perspex screens in front of the amps, and crucially, travels with FOH and MON engineers who know what the hell they're doing.
After realizing that there is no standardized tuning for guitar tuners, I've decided to tune to my keyboard player from now on. Guess what, if your bandmates are all using different brand tuners, and you all tune to your own tuners, you are now all slightly out of tune. Tune to the keyboard player, save money on tuning pedals, thank me later.
flatwounds are overrated. just trendy right now. they're great, but if you need any kind of aggressiveness and attack in your bass tone they're just not gonna work.
I feel like we need a podcast about what to get for the people in our lives who are not into guitar.

You guys are rad...thanks for featuring the Stereo-Sonic and even more for the feedback!

Just as a fun FYI, Bloomfield is a little community just to the west of Two Rock in the Two Rock Valley near Petaluma. ;-)
I want more Addison!!!
If you join their Patreon they do bonus episodes with him

15:52 holy moly ! So sick!

Yes, this year flew by real quick. Kind of ridiculous. Not sure what happened.
This thumbnail is everything.
Sorry to hear your bag is only Mono, mine is Stereo 😂
As soon as Rhett said he was going to recommend a pedal I immediately thought he‘s gonna say JHS Color Box.
Have you guys ever talked about how you met?
That would be nice to hear. ❤
Apology accepted.

Rhett's description of the 490s couldn't be more spot on.

Where I find guitar hanging thing?

My Amazon wish list has all the things I actually want then a section with my preferred picks, strings, etc that I always need. Leave no doubt lol
Has the NeuralDSP Two Rock not actually been released yet?

A good pick for an acoustic is a great gift too. Bluechip or toneslab
1:08:58 Everyone clearly needs more than one bass. I have Labella flats on a fretless and that thing has some thump to it.
15:52 agreed that most players wouldn’t opt for this but is that only because it doesn’t really exist?
I prefer this Karma ODR-10 meticulously modeled from Tim Pierce’s Nobels ODR-1 from the early 1990s.
I've had the Nobels ODR-1 and the mini, and got rid of both after getting the Karma ODR-10. It's a keeper!
Please try the Snark HZ-1... it's the better tuner Rhett have asked them to make 😂
490s are Alnico and not that hot. The 500t and, 496 are ceramic, hot and pretty terrible. 490s are still not great though
Jamerson cannot be questioned
It’s so funny, I started watching Neil deGrasse Tyson too! Its so good
Doesn't Joe Bonamassa have his live rig as a wet dry rig, using all his vintage tweeds, dumbles and others - could be wrong, but I think he does?

Can Zach make a bass overdrive.
Use the Golden Fleece or the Chupacabra. I heard Zac recommends those for bass.

Fun to have on the right guitar. Wouldn’t want ongoing if I had 1 guitar.
Can be worked around with a comp and EQ. But Chromes help a great deal as a good in between option.
I like half round for some guitars but I always end up back to roundwounds
