Idk if I said it to you or someone else with a similar issue previously, so sorry if I’m treading old ground. But I feel like you repeat the same notes when speaking… if that makes sense. Like I can recognize a few very specific unnatural patterns in every sentence, and you consistently end a lot of sentences on the exact same note. Still a solid video, but it was a little jarring.
22:28 Small correction. Daisy was recast (voiced by Giselle Fernandez instead of Deanna Mustard), but Yoshi was not. Nabbit however, was recast (voiced by Dawn M. Bennett instead of Natsuko Yokoyama).
Having completed the game 100%, it really is quite good, but it feels like something is missing. There was something about SMWorld that made the levels feel like actual locations. SMWonder’s levels are kind of like 3DWorld’s. They’re more like ideas than places.
I'm gonna be honest with you, Demeech. Though, I only played the demo, it definitely surpassed my expectations. I honestly think Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a legit contender for GOTY (not that the Game Awards matter but, I digress) I do wish we had more power ups, such as returning ones like the Cape Feather or the Blue Shell, but the ones we got are pretty lit. I still can't believe Nintendo made one of your ideas canon! 11:05 Also, I get the weird feeling that the Drill Mushroom is gonna be an item for the next Mario Kart game (assuming Nintendo even makes it) Regarding Mario's new VA, he seems fine. I know this isn't really mentioned in the video but I don't get why he got a lot of flak for being a "no-name" VA. Charles had a background in advertising and prior to his role in Mario Teaches Typing 2, no one knew who he was either. Plus Kevin has been doing the voices for the Nintendo Directs so I don't really get the hate. He sounds fine. Good review as always, Demeech!
Excellent comment! The demo gave you a decent taste of what to expect, but the full game really went above and beyond. Thank you for the insightful comment!
regarding the hidden block levels, these are supposed to be played with multiple people, online or local; finding the solution is easier with more hands. i really enjoyed playing them online and leaving standees as hints for other players, though i admit that requiring nso or multiple players and controllers is iffy
I still can't believe this game is real. While 2 stinkers are noticeable like Yoshi & Nabbit being Game Journalist Modes, as well as every boss being almost the same, the rest of the game is genuinely exceptional. And while wishing for a returning villain or a new villain that's not Bowser is a personal nitpick, that won't deter my enjoyment when I finally play this game. That being said, I would kill for the next 2D Mario to be on par with this one. And maybe the next 3D Mario will also be in a new location.
While I do consider this the best 2D Mario game ever made (for far too many reasons to mention), I'm still a bit irked about Yoshi being an easy mode character (even if there *ARE* levels that are not made any less challenging by playing as him, and I'll always choose him for those levels since, being Yoshi, he fully deserves it) and the fact that Junior is the boss of *EVERY* single castle outside of the final one (but then again, that too has something redeeming it, namely the fact that all of the boss battles are unique in their own way, not to mention Junior's Wonder form looks sick as hell ngl). Overall, I can safely say that Super Mario Bros. Wonder is indeed the Odyssey that 2D Mario was so desperately in need of. I wish Bowser had been given all-new henchmen for the game to serve as bosses (like how Odyssey did with the Broodals), and have Wonder Junior just be the semi-final boss.
@@barelyhere7200 frfr, if only the TH-camr SML was still allowed to use Nintendo plushies, then we would've 100% been getting a video based on junior's wonder form around this time
I am happy that the easy mode characters can bump off of enemys instead of walking through them. That way it keeps some challenge because if you aren’t careful, you can fall in a pit.
Actually thats just yoshi nabbit can walk through them(despite him screaming a little) which is why i use nabbit a little more than yoshi despite his flutter jump being very usefull
I would have loved it if you could place Yoshi and he would play similarly to Yoshi's Island where eating enemies gives you eggs and you can throw them. They could make it so that nabbing a power up gives You full egg stock
14:25 you played the fuzzy sound effect from Yoshi's Island which would actually make sense given what the wonder flower does, yet you put the Weird Mushroom?
Apparently the reason why Daisy is a playable character is because one of the directors has 2 daughters so he didn’t want them to fight over who will play as the princess so he put 2 in
Welp, as I promised I gonna drop my review about my main issue with wonder and that is the boss line up is failing in so many levels that I gonna split up to sections: The first is in veraity, not the biggest issue generally speaking but this boss line not offer quality in fights beside the final boss nor quantity either, bowser jr isn't your SA2 shadow or DMC3 vergil and defenitley not feel too justified to appear over and over other than being in your way. The second issue is how the boss line up don't excuse to be bare bone say what you will on the koopaling overuse at least they change it enough so it is acceptable. This isn't in some the standards of the og SMB I would say is in the 3 worst boss line ups in mario and even high on my top 10 worst boss line ups. And last in my opinion the most important thing in a boss line up it failing at being a pivot point for the game to rise in difficulty, a good boss should preapare all of you skills you learned and see how you execute your mastery, yet wonder don't provide it really like for example the gimmick of the final boss literraly came a bit before it did have some tutorial but I do wish said gimmick would have been on it's world specifically. And yeah what I want to point out I do think the boss line up really ruin wonder for me to some degree like as a game I say is better than odyssey which I like but it hasn't aged the best if you ask me but wonder became more a pick your poison case I do really hope we gonna have DLC so at least we have a proper boss line up
I reallu don't like elephant mario, and you spend way too much time as it. The game might as well just be called super elephant brothers. For one thing, it's just not interesting. They already had a big mario that deatroys everything in thw U series, and the water abilities with the trunk feel lackluster and mostly useless to me.
My review this time gonna be a bit different instead of covering the entire game or the handicaps I want to cover more my personal main issue with wonder nor I gonna give it a tier rank yet
And yet, if a mainline Pokémon game gets voice acting, it will be the worst game, either because the voice acting will be the only thing they will focus upon, or be so horrendous that everything else, as “polished” as it would be, would be nothing compared to that millstone.
I played it and last weekend when I got my copy and I loved it, I tried to play as little as I possibly could since I was busy with sonic superstars but it was amazing
Thought this at the time but even now we're half way thru 2024, 2023 was easily top 2 years for Switch, Pikmin 4 TOTK and Wonder in the same year is crazy
Okay i get it - it's a good game. But the real question is: is it "$60 good"? That's something no one talks about. The reason I'm asking is because I always wanted a 2D Mario game with coop, and was extremely disappointed with New SMB U Deluxe (archaic controls and lack of checkpoints/getting kicked out of level on each life loss)
This game still feels like a fever dream, but the good kind, the only thing that disappointed me about this game was Yoshi being invincible and uh *THE "WRITERS" BARELY DISGUISED FETISH*
I wasn't aware that the Yoshis were invincible/easy mode. That's such a stupid design decision, honestly. Wario and Waluigi teaming up with Mario and Luigi in a mainline game is everyone's dream, and it would make for so many unique and hilarious moments. It's just too bad that Nintendo is so strictly, vehemently opposed to the idea of Wario and Waluigi showing up in a mainline game - they're so opposed to it that even the prospect of enormous success and profit doesn't move them at all. It's truly one of the mysteries of the gaming industry.
25 hours on average for 100% might be a bit high of an estimate, I got there in a bit under 13 hours, and How Long To Beat says about 17 hours on average. Though you could easily spend that amount in the game if you also do multiplayer.
I have it preordered. Gamestop said I can come in and pick it up at midnight along with Spiderman 2 but I'm drinking tonight so tomorrow is the better option lol. Looks awesome but I just feel weird spending nearly $100cnd for a 2D sidescroller but that's the way it goes..
it's weird to me that the reception to this game has been so much more positive than recent mario sidecrollers. Do gamers _really_ value little visuals flourishes _that_ much? Because Wonder is really that much different as a _game_ than the previous few entries. It's actually _worse_ in some ways. Wonder Flowers are neat, but it becomes apparent pretty quickly that gameplay also takes a turn toward being more shallow and linear than the game's base gameplay once they become active. And they also gutted Mario's kit of actions so they could tie them to Badges, which often just give you one of the lost abilities in a truncated way. Sure, it's nice to see the games having a bit more personality, but it hardly does enough for the game to elevate to the extent that it justifies how much better the reception has been.
Don't say this anywhere online! You'll get absolutely crucified for having this completely valid opinion. Anyone saying this game is *perfect* or anywhere near it is absolutely insane to me and are people I know not to seeing video game reviews from
Though I think the Music and Wonder Jr’s desigh holds up the boss fights for me. Though I can’t deny the fights should go on one phase longer and then they should have had a few other bosses besides Jr have some mid world bosses too.
It's probably best that you didn't show the "bosses." They are by far the game's weakest point. Probably the weakest in the series. Mario 1 bosses on nes were better.
Honestly I think the bosses are a step in the right direction. Yes, its another Koopaling fight but its seems its a lot faster compare the prior. He also has extended invincibility to change up the stage so you can't really interrupt him On top of the fact that he takes 5 hits instead of 3. I do wish there more boss variety though.
@@Mymy_64 Also ig BJ is kinda a Koopaling? Ik that he's the only one that's actually Bowser's son and the others are adopted but they're pretty much the same + imo Koopalings are better than BJ

@@Dilopho yes they are more varied but just like Mario, they aren’t the strong suit. Sonic Bosses are better but not much better. Also Sonic Superstars has mostly bad bosses.
@@sahaprocks7751 well in my opinion the 2d sonic bosses are better, look at sonic mania for example- not only is there a good boss for every act in the game, you fight them in so many different ways. There are chases, races, ones where you bait the boss into hurting themselves, ones where you're in vehicles, a puzzle battle... And that's really what keeps me coming back to that game . Have you seen how people cheese the Koopalings in their playthoughs of such games? They just keep exploiting their faulty shell attack patterns and lack of mercy invincibility to the point where they can't even attack with their wands.
Definitely the best 2D Mario we've gotten in awhile.
Is It one of the best up there with super Mario Bros 3 and super Mario world tho?
@@Xf3rnaPlaysimo yes
It's also the only 2D Mario we've gotten in a while. Seriously, NSMBU was 2012
Having completed the game 100%, it really is quite good, but it feels like something is missing.
Wonder is a legit contender for GOTY (not that the Game Awards matter but, I digress)
I do wish we had more power ups, such as returning ones like the Cape Feather or the Blue Shell, but the ones we got are pretty lit. I still can't believe Nintendo made one of your ideas canon! 11:05
Also, I get the weird feeling that the Drill Mushroom is gonna be an item for the next Mario Kart game (assuming Nintendo even makes it)
Regarding Mario's new VA, he seems fine.
@@Demeech You're welcome! You're definitely the goat when it comes to Nintendo content! Glad my insight is helpful to you! :)
regarding the hidden block levels, these are supposed to be played with multiple people, online or local; finding the solution is easier with more hands. i really enjoyed playing them online and leaving standees as hints for other players, though i admit that requiring nso or multiple players and controllers is iffy
"Nintendo has seen a Demeech video confirmed!"
That gave me a good chuckle, anyway AMAZING review. Good Job on explaining it really good!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Bowser Jrs wonder form is badass
@@barelyhere7200 frfr, if only the TH-camr SML was still allowed to use Nintendo plushies, then we would've 100% been getting a video based on junior's wonder form around this time
Game is really easy without playing in easy mode. Just play Yoshi and enjoy. Awesome game but it is very easy.
New Super Mario Bros Wii: am i a joke to you?
I liked the Broodals. Your points are spot on btw!
14:48 where can I get this sound effect and the wonder mushroom png 🤔
Fuzzy sound effect: Yoshi's Island
@@Demeech thanks demeech 😀
I am happy that the easy mode characters can bump off of enemys instead of walking through them. That way it keeps some challenge because if you aren’t careful, you can fall in a pit.
Actually thats just yoshi nabbit can walk through them(despite him screaming a little) which is why i use nabbit a little more than yoshi despite his flutter jump being very usefull
I would have loved it if you could place Yoshi and he would play similarly to Yoshi's Island where eating enemies gives you eggs and you can throw them.
They could make it so that nabbing a power up gives You full egg stock
Great review. So glad you did it. I'll be picking up a copy this weekend
14:25 you played the fuzzy sound effect from Yoshi's Island which would actually make sense given what the wonder flower does, yet you put the Weird Mushroom?
Huh, he knows about Yoshi's Island but keeps forgetting that Yoshi was invincible in that game without that damn baby.
Thanks for the great review, well done :)
Thanks for watching!
I honestly think that the bosses section deserved a demeech’s fury section
Apparently the reason why Daisy is a playable character is because one of the directors has 2 daughters so he didn’t want them to fight over who will play as the princess so he put 2 in
Welp, as I promised I gonna drop my review about my main issue with wonder and that is the boss line up is failing in so many levels that I gonna split up to sections:
The first is in veraity, not the biggest issue generally speaking but this boss line not offer quality in fights beside the final boss nor quantity either, bowser jr isn't your SA2 shadow or DMC3 vergil and defenitley not feel too justified to appear over and over other than being in your way.
And yeah what I want to point out I do think the boss line up really ruin wonder for me to some degree like as a game I say is better than odyssey which I like but it hasn't aged the best if you ask me but wonder became more a pick your poison case I do really hope we gonna have DLC so at least we have a proper boss line up
The two main gripes I’ve seen in reviews for this game are the difficulty and length. Two words solve both of those issues. SPECIAL WORLD
It..... it has a Special World
I reallu don't like elephant mario, and you spend way too much time as it.
Neat
I saw a loading screen saying Daisy is the princess of sarasaland. NINTENDO REFERENCED SUPER MARIO LAND IN A LOADING SCREEN.
Somehow from my point of view: This game almost has a bunch of similarities from Super Mario world and Super Mario Land 2
It's definitely more of it's own thing. But still has the creativity of those games
And Super Mario 3.
@@Demeech Exactly!
In short: It's a Game that makes you never Sleep...
My gamestop is hosting an 11pm release ton. I absolutely can't wait
Its been a while that I didn't had this much fun playing a videogame, SMBW surpassed my expectations
2D Mario got proper voice acting before Pokémon. Why am I not surprised?
And yet, if a mainline Pokémon game gets voice acting, it will be the worst game, either because the voice acting will be the only thing they will focus upon, or be so horrendous that everything else, as “polished” as it would be, would be nothing compared to that millstone.
Because the developers of Wonder actually care about putting out a quality game
I played it and last weekend when I got my copy and I loved it, I tried to play as little as I possibly could since I was busy with sonic superstars but it was amazing
Thought this at the time but even now we're half way thru 2024, 2023 was easily top 2 years for Switch, Pikmin 4 TOTK and Wonder in the same year is crazy
19:33 OOOHHH thats where that danm missing coin was
I caught that Chris Pratt "stomping on KOOPAS" reference
This is a Blue Toad 🐸Neighborhood. Yellow Toads Keep Moving.
WONDERFUL review of a WONDERFUL game!
Wonderful comment from a WONDERFUL guy!
@@Demeech I feel so flattered. Thanks!
Bro trust me it's a good game not perfect but still very good 👌
@@aaronatkinson177 yeah I got it recently, it's tons of fun in coop. Way more innovative than NSMBU-D
This game still feels like a fever dream, but the good kind, the only thing that disappointed me about this game was Yoshi being invincible and uh
*THE "WRITERS" BARELY DISGUISED FETISH*
How is the difficulty compared to Tropical Freeze? Which is my favourite platformer- also, is this better overall?
the game is incredibly easy with the exception of a few levels, and even the harder levels aren't that hard
@@WilliamWatrous*Final courses be like*
I wasn't aware that the Yoshis were invincible/easy mode.
Great seeing Domooch here
Agree on the controls, they're soo buttery smooth
15:00 😪 The dumm elephant power should have been a water device like sunshine.
The 4-star levels are war crimes, especially the rainbow one.
Thank you
18:05 NSMBDS and that episode aired on the same day.
25 hours on average for 100% might be a bit high of an estimate, I got there in a bit under 13 hours, and How Long To Beat says about 17 hours on average. Though you could easily spend that amount in the game if you also do multiplayer.
I kinda miss the triple jump
That’s probably my main problem with the game
I have it preordered. Gamestop said I can come in and pick it up at midnight along with Spiderman 2 but I'm drinking tonight so tomorrow is the better option lol.
Looks awesome but I just feel weird spending nearly $100cnd for a 2D sidescroller but that's the way it goes..
Will there be additional returning power ups? (i.e. Tanooki Suit, Ice Flower, etc.)
Bro during the outro I thought I heard my phone dialling because I have it as my ringtone
That's happened a lot
I cannot wait to get this game for my birthday
What was the one boss you thought was awesome?
The final boss
it's weird to me that the reception to this game has been so much more positive than recent mario sidecrollers.
Anyone saying this game is *perfect* or anywhere near it is absolutely insane to me and are people I know not to seeing video game reviews from
Happy wonder flower tripping everyone
Though I think the Music and Wonder Jr’s desigh holds up the boss fights for me. Though I can’t deny the fights should go on one phase longer and then they should have had a few other bosses besides Jr have some mid world bosses too.
It's probably best that you didn't show the "bosses." They are by far the game's weakest point. Probably the weakest in the series. Mario 1 bosses on nes were better.
it's funny that the worst aspects of both Mario Wonder and Sonic Superstars are the bosses
Honestly if they wanted an easy mode they should’ve just made an easy mode not restricting cool characters to them.
25:34 is so damn cheesy that it's hilarious!
I'm not cheesy! I'm just corny!
even though this is mostly spoiler free, i did just get spoiled on a new double jump badge at 5:06 and the spring jump badge at 10:28
Honestly I think the bosses are a step in the right direction. Yes, its another Koopaling fight but its seems its a lot faster compare the prior. He also has extended invincibility to change up the stage so you can't really interrupt him On top of the fact that he takes 5 hits instead of 3. I do wish there more boss variety though.
Really though. Who plays Mario games for the epic boss fights? I mean I wish they would make better bosses but it's never a deal breaker.
@@MikeRavia-xp5ig For me its really depends on the genre of game it is.
Koopalings aren't in the game wdym
@@PigeonNHL I'm talking about Bowser jr.'s fights and how their just better version of Koopaling fight.
@@Mymy_64 Also ig BJ is kinda a Koopaling? Ik that he's the only one that's actually Bowser's son and the others are adopted but they're pretty much the same

That's one of the things sonic has always done better than Mario. Although I'm hearing mixed opinions on the bosses in sonic superstars too.
Sonic bosses aren’t much better you know
@@sahaprocks7751 they are though, sonic bosses are usually way more varied than Mario ones
I'm a huge sucker for boss battles.
However, I do think 3d Mario bosses tend to be better than 3d sonic bosses.
