Wonder obviously wins but the best part is that the Mid air spin isn’t mapped to double tapping the A button and you can only turn it off with a cheat code. Wouldn’t seem like a big deal but it is
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (god what a hefty title) was my first new soup game. I thought the spin jump button was always tapping b. It took a month to get used to when I got Mario maker 2 when it went back to the shoulder buttons.
@@sonic176yt7yeah you can use the shoulder button but accidentally shake the controller and now your character is spinning in the air Right and do some prawn plant or other flying enemy screw you apparently.
Not obvious as turning into an elephant doesn’t make a game better. Especially with how garbage the bosses are. The previous series perfectly encapsulated the classic games and thats what people wanted. Now people have had their fill of classic Mario and want something with a bit more kick to it.
The timers were never good because they were too long. They were just- useless, they didn't bring difficulty. Luigi U had fun with the timer though, and I enjoyed it for that
Luigi U's timer is the same as the main game. They made the seconds last for the length of an actual second instead of a third of a second like it usually does.
22:30 i know the game says that Toadette is an "easy" mode character but the only changes are that 100 seconds are added to the clock and that you get a power-up that is just the acorn suit with only change being that you get one save when you fall in specifically a bottomless pit if you ask me i guess its technically easier but when it gets chaotic you might actually appreciate the "help"
You forgot that Toadette swims as if she is in Penguin form and Peachette's glide is slower than the Flying Squirrel form. This makes it mandatory to occasionally stop gliding for a small amount of time in Flying Squirrel Ovation if there isn't a Super Acorn in your inventory. This is because for some reason, the game replaces all Super Acorns except for very few with Super Crowns when playing as Toadette. None of the few that weren't replaced are located in Flying Squirrel Ovation, despite that course needing it the most. The same course is also impossible to clear as Nabbit, but somehow that's still an option. In the original Wii U version, attempting to play as Nabbit in Flying Squirrel Ovation would instead make you play as a Mii.
and with the super crown, you get a higher boost than the super acorn, and you lose less height when going normally, also still not much easier, but still easy mode, U deluxe labels toadette ad Easier. with Nabbit being Easiest
At this point. It feels like people just hate on New Super Mario Bros. U just because of how it looks. And for it doesen't bring much more new. And it feels like people are looking at the art style for Super Mario Bros Wonder so much. They forget some of its low points. Like the bosses and basically being too short. While Super Mario Bros. Wonder is good. Really good. Maybe perfect. I'd see myself just going back to New Super Mario Bros. U more. Just because of some of its high points. But. It is just My opinion.
While I agree on the bosses, I never found Wonder very short. Yeah. It might've been shorter than the New Super Mario Bros games or other 2D Mario games; aside from Land 1 & maybe Land 2. But it never felt short. I think the length is fine as it is. But maybe an DLC could add some more levels or something. And why does it have to be longer anyway? Wouldn't people complaint about the game being too long and wanted to cut back an little bit?
While I'd rather have a short game that is good. Rather than a bad game that is long. It feels like Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a bit...too short. I beat it in like 1 day in my first playthrough. And it does not really feel...replayable. Feels more like. Play one time. Done. It could've used a bit more extra content. But again. All of this is just my opinion.
@@Moonlow. I don't mind playing games that can be long just as long as the quality of the is good and doesn't have any bad parts. But sometimes it can overstay there welcomes to the point that if it's not as fun as I hope and I wanted the game to end already. That's basically what Odyssey or Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Tear of the Kingdom is for me. As good as those games might be, I don't want to spent hours looking for all the moons, purple tokens, unlocking costumes or having to branch every area, items and bosses to face that can take forever to complete. Sometimes big things doesn't make the game better overall. It can become tiresome and lacks any replay value.
I agree. When I first saw the trailer of wonder, i already saw myself going back to nsmbu deluxe at any moment now. Soon as the game came out, I was not wrong at all. This game just didn't catch my appeal like wii and U did. Needless to say, the art style feels rubbish and isnt as appealing as U. Call u's artstyle outdated all u want, but the game still looks fluid and amazing imo
Aside from the Super Acorn, the power ups in U are pretty underutilized and weren't implemented well. Like you can't even get the Propellar Mushroom & Penguin Suit till the Special World, which is stupid.
@@lukas._.schmieder They aren't that rare. They were basically common in NSMBWii. So why limited them till postgame is completely absurd. Plus there not like the Hammer Suit from Mario 3 where it's rare because it was pretty powerful. They do have some set backs to stop them from being too O.P. You can argue Super Acorn is basically an Propeller Mushroom as an flying power up or the Penguin Suit is an agile Ice Flower. But there are significant differences between those power ups and still no excuse to lock them.
@@jaretco6423 thats definitiv true, they could've at least make the propeller mushroom available earlier. I think they could've done it similar like they did with the P-nut
Tbh i honestly think the "Powerups" category should've gone to NSMBU, for one simple reason, in Mario U it's way easier to choose what power up you want to bring inside levels, there toad houses, enemies on the map and sometimes even Powerups just lying on the map, and the inventory system allows you to go inside a level with your preferred power up at any time, and if you don't have it, simply go to a toad house and pick your favourite, in Wonder, there's been several times where I just wanted another power up in a specific level, either because I thought it would make the level more fun or simply as a change of pace, there's long stretches of the game where you'll always find the same power up, but never any of the others, and since there's no inventory system, item houses or literally anything else that could give you a powerup, you're either forced to replay an older level just to get your favourite powerup, or constantly carry it in your sub item slot, where if you lose it, it's gone and the only other option is replaying an older level, which while the levels are fun, being forced to replay them to get a certain powerup that you could very easily lose in the very next level you play is very cumbersome, and I'm only so mad because the power ups in wonder are some of the best in the entire series, they're so fun to use, but the game is set up in a way where you'll only be able to use the ones the game hands out to you at a specific time and not the ones you actually want. For that reason alone Mario U just handles powerups in a much better way than wonder. In terms of the actual power ups themselves, wonder does have better ones, but in terms of how they were implemented, Mario U just did it in a much better way.
MINOR SPOILER but if you beat the game... ... you get badges that let you get the item you want to use in the level regardless of whichever item you pick up.
What the poster above said. Also Theres a level latter in the game that you can go into immediately get your power up and leave and keep your power up. In the lava world.
I just found a solution for the lack of an inventory today. This only works once you've reached Deep Magma Bog, but for the Drill Mushroom, this can also work once you've reached Sunbaked Desert. For all power-ups, go to the Search Party course 'Item Park'. This course contains all four of the game's power-ups at the start, and like all Search Party courses, you can exit the course from the left, which unlike doing so from the pause screen, will save your status prior to exiting. You can also choose to exit in normal or Super form if you want, by breaking the blocks at the start in Elephant or Drill form and taking damage from the Spike Ball. A free Drill Mushroom can also be found in the Break Time! course 'Treasure Vault', unlocked by completing the course 'Armads on the Roll' in Sunbaked Desert, which also has a way to exit from the left. The same applies to the Elephant Fruit in another Break Time! course, 'Hot-Hot Rocks', but this isn't as useful because it is unlocked after Item Park. Edit: I just noticed Item Park does not include the Fire Flower. Using the 'All Fire Power' badge unlocked after clearing Bowser's Rage Stage should help with this.
I will admit Wii U having the challenge mode is a good pro, but Wonder is just oozing with style and charm that makes it much more appealing than Wii U's.
I love wonder, I feel like it severely lacks replayability outside of online mode though. There's nothing like the nsmb2 challenge modes I hope they add dlc to keep this game fresh and interesting
@@murderman8578 that's not replayibility, that's just playing the game. 100% a 2d mario game is not that difficult anyway, all you have to do is not dash to the end of the course and actually explore said course for secrets and such. Most people probably just hop back into a level if they missed something, and Wonder isn't that long of a game either so after you've put 10-15 hours in and you've already 100% completed it, all you can do is replay the entire game again once you feel like it. Replyaibility comes from usually endless gamemodes, are long trials of challenges that can keep the player invested for days after they've completed the actual game. Even multiplayer modes that you fight against your friends will always have different outcomes and fun moments that could bring people back infinitly. Wonder isn't really a game focused around multiplayer though, especially with how the camera works and the removal of collision and no longer being able to pick anyone up. I would say the chaos of the new super mario bros games was its main replayibility because it will forever and always be funny to fuck with your friends, but with Wonder, it feels more like everyone is fighting against the games camera, rather than each other which makes it worse in the mulitplayer department compared to the new super mario bros games in my opinion. You can argue that statement but not that beating a game 100% is deemed good replayibility because then 90% of games would have good replay value because at least 90% of games have a 100% completion task to work to but that doesn't qualify if a game is necessarily good for replay value.
Badges and choosing not to collect the wonder seed opt for different passages and I think it has lots of replayability. Maybe not a new game, but replaying levels, or going with a friend (online, or in person) keeps replayability great!
I would like to add that I had a blast 100%ing Wonder, which has plenty of tools for the player to use to help with completion (sensor badge, checkmarks, ECT), but more importantly just had better secret placements in general for the most part. Aside from the searching side levels that were clearly built around multiplayer and the sensor badge, there were very rarely secrets hidden in the less than fair ways Mario U regularly resorted to hiding it's secrets (off-screen, invincible blocks, and fake walls, often without any hints towards their location or tools to help find them). So consider completion a bonus point for Mario wonder.
If there was any other category for NSMBU in this unfair battle it would be the Multiplayer, because not only did the player interactivity with the collision make the experience more fun and chaotic but they also had the way better multiplayer camera, yeah i'm sorry but Wonder's multiplayer camera is just not it like i don't like how it only follows one person because now everyone else has to struggle to stay on screen. You could make up an argument that the online multiplayer for Wonder makes up for it and while it is enjoyable it just isn't the same, the online and local multiplayer lacks that interactivity like in NSMB so i feel like the point should of went to NSMBU only because of the player collision making some fun and chaotic game-play but also the camera making things more cohesive But either way this is really unfair to put NSMBU against the godly Wonder 😭
I think it really depends on what your looking for. If you want a more relaxed and fair game, wonder wins, but if your looking for pure anarchy, NSMBU wins.
@@starbeam7679 Except it's just... Not the case. Wonder isn't more fair it's just purely worse than U in the multiplayer department. The camera is just horrible and the fact there is no interactivity just makes Multiplayer an annoying solo mode. It was clearly rushed and was quickly made with the online mode physics. You can't defend Wonder for everything, it's excellent but you gotta give some credits to U where it shined.
Thank you!!! Wonder was clearly designed for single player, and that is wonderful, but multiplayer was an after thought. New Wii and U put a lot more effort combing through every single level making sure the camera felt good for four players as much as they could. Wonder has way too many levels where the camera prevents multiplayer from being fun. Good luck if one player has the crown but can't make it past a challenge and there's no way to die. Plus the fact that ghosts die after 5 seconds is crazy. We were A LOT more frustrated doing multiplayer in Wonder than U even though U is more difficult and has player collisions (which are sometimes actually helpful).
Why the fxxx does Nintendo think that constantly rehashing one character over and over again for several boss fights is a good idea? I could excuse Boom Boom being fought over and over in Super Mario Bros 3 because of limited hardware from back then and he wasn't the only boss character, but having this trend in modern games like U, 3D Land, and Wonder is just so baffling and frustrating! Why can't these developers understand that having character variety for a game's boss line-up matters too?
@@Aki-ow9hd most games usually have a fair lineup of varied bosses sprinkled throughout. It's pretty much a common courtesy that many of us gamers have been conditioned to expect in video games. We look forward to seeing what crazy stand-out character we cap off each world with. This game's main selling point was it being more creative than the generic New Super Mario Bros enemies and worlds being rehashed over and over again. It gives us new worlds to explore and plenty of new enemies, but the dev team couldn't bother to put in that same creative diversity for the game's bosses? To not only have it be the same character at the end four times, but to even have two of the worlds end with NO boss is really deflating. The dev team here comes off as alienating to gaming fans for failing to understand that we LIKE having a diverse cast of bosses to fight in our games.
I noticed that and only after a while I figured out, “it’s because of the unique online concept, right?” At least I can create an additional local user on my Switch (such as “green guy! Challenges” but with the name being within the 10-character limit).
I will never like wonder multiplayer only for 1 thing: The camera. It just sucks, it is only locked on the player with the crown and the second player just get pushed by the camera everytime, the camera in wonder is not made for multiplayer. I would prefer playing as an op character rather than being pushed everywhere by the camera.
I think for multi-player, if your looking for fair and friendly fun, it goes to wonder, but if your looking for pure anarchy in your multiplayer experience, it goes to U. Sure, someone being forced into an easy mode charecter is pretty annoying, but having a chaotic multiplayer can be very fun and could give U an edge, but ut really just depends on what your looking for.
Say what you will about the base game, but if you're looking for a real challenge then New Super Luigi U is still very much worth playing. Difficulty is the one area Wonder is weak in, especially if you're a seasoned 2D platformer player.
I disagree with the music. The music in wonder is extremely forgettable. And it often gets annoying because a lot of tracks are repeated countless times. The desert theme in nsmb wii and u is WAY better than what they had in wonder. The flowers were interesting at first but they got the most irritating voice possible and I ended up turning them off.
I also prefer the NSMBU desert theme over Wonder, but I still liked Wonder. “U” had an Egyptian theme, where Wonder pivoted to Arabian desert levels, so the music followed suit. It was a great change in desert-level variety. I do think I prefer Wonder’s forest theme a lot more though.
@@archer5834 Most of the music from NSMBU is recycled from NSMBWii and 2. But at least the music in those games can be repetitive, but yet more memorable with the "bahs".
The only games I can think of which benefit from having a timer are games like Sonic or RPGs in certain scenarios. Sonic uses the timer as a way of ranking your speed and as a barometer for how well you’re doing and improving. Timers are useful in games that use them for a reason, even Mario uses time limits well, like for instance Super Luigi U and the strict time limit being used as a way to encourage speedy gameplay, and to force the player to make decisions they otherwise wouldn’t because they have limited time. A timer in games has its use cases and shouldn’t be blanket labeled as “bad” it’s not bad in its concept, it’s bad in its execution. Even modern Sonic games don’t kill you for reaching the 10 minute mark anymore, now they just don’t give you a good score or rank. It’s really just dependent on the game, so it’s best to take it on a case by case basis.
**sigh** Of COURSE nobody’s gonna get off New Soup’s butt about wonderful new kid on the block. I love Wonder to death and think it’s far better than all of them, but as someone who also likes NSMBU, I don’t get excited when people start using Wonder’s existence as an excuse to hate on the other recent Mario games.
something to note about bonus content in wonder is that it's there, it's just lumped in with the main campaign via the break time stages the same way that subgames are treated in kirby and the forgotten land
@@valentinross3768 3D World was simple because it followed the rules of every other Mario game, SMBW has so much going on that they can't fit all of that in there
I think that the fight was way closer than this video tells. For me, Wonder's final boss was very dissapointing, and I preffer New Super Mario Bros U one, and I liked Bowser Jr's fights in NSMBU, but the only decent boss in Wonder is the final boss. So I think NSMBU Wins that point. And about multiplayer, I preffer the NSMBU one, and if you don't want to play as a easy mode as Toadette, just don't use the peachette power up. Maybe the few power ups that Mario Wonder has are better handled, but I personally don't like any of them as much as the NSMBU ones, specially the ones that let you fly in order to explore the levels. Mario Wonder still wins because I think level design is the most important point and Mario Wonder is way better in that way, but is a very close fight.
I understand the disdain for NSMBU - it’s a port of a Wii U game that was already a rehash of 4 other NSMB games. If you played all (or even some) of the games, it seems bland and recycled. But for someone like me who only played NSMB DS, the game feels fairly fresh to me and the definitive HD version of all of those NSMB games. If you only get ONE NSMB game, then get NSMBU Deluxe IMO. Its essentially a HD reimagining of Super Mario Bros 3, with your classic glass, desert, water, snow etc levels. It’s also the introduction of Peachette and I really like the acorn power up. It’s also quite challenging. I think Nintendo learned from their mistakes and will time their future 2D Mario releases carefully and not wear them down like the NSMB series.
New Super Mario Bros. U kinda is a bland game, but its DLC New Super Luigi U Did so much better. The level designs are so much better than the ones in NSMBU, and its among my favourite NSMB games along with NSMBDS, and NSMBWii. Super Mario Bros Wonder is very creative, but all of the bosses are Bowser Jr. In the NSMB games we had different bosses. NSMBDS: we got unique bosses. In the rest of the NSMB games, we got the Koopalings. I also hope in the future that Nintendo Ports the previous NSMB games expecially NSMBWii to the switch. That game was a complete masterpiece, and its among my childhood video games.
I wanted to love Wonder and part of me really does love it. But if I had to be honest, I had more fun with NSMBU. One big factor was the local multiplayer, it's so fun to bounce on each other, or pick up your friends to help them passing a difficult sequence (and occasionally failing killing both). Local multiplayer in Wonder is both boring (lack of physical interactions between players) and frustrating (I hate that the player with the crown has total control of the camera).
Collision in multiplayer completely ruined the level design for single player though. Every level had to have a ton of empty space to accommodate 4 players, so they're absolutely barren without that.
@@Oneiroclastfair point. :) I did my whole run with my house mate always playing with me, so I probably have a blind spot concerning single player level design for that game. :)
I agree on bosses. But power ups? Nah. There both equal. Although in U, you can't get the Propeller Mushroom or Penguin Suit till postgame, which is stupid and makes them alot less limited than the ones from Wonder.
I had more fun with NSMU than Wonder. So far I am the only person admitting this but I am being honest. I found the regular worlds of Wonder easy and short. And worst of all, almost no good secrets. Big coins and secret exits too easy to find. Some wonder flower effects are interesting, but others are not and feel more like a Kirby minigame. The badge chalenges and the Special world, on the other side, are very difficult, specially the later. Some pointless ultra-skill challenges without exploring or discovery. What is the point of a sky jumping stage with your character invisible? I know NSMU has old graphics and old ideas, but the difficulty is much more balanced and the star coins and secret exits much more fun to find.
This i have to agree. I love Wonder, it's better than U in many aspects but it's just painfully easy for like 99% of the time before you randomly stumble on some hard level that's gonna make you lose some lives but not for the level itself, just for the purple coins. And even then you can just collect it and die since it stays collected after you die. And I also agree to the fact it's short. The thing is, I decided to stop playing regularily mid game to make shorter sessions, and I feel that's making it better? I feel like it's more like a game where you pop out your Switch, play 30min-1h to complete a dozen levels then turn it off, nothing like the long worlds of NSMBU that with all secrets can only be completed with long playthroughs. I'm still giving slightly more points to Wonder for being an overall less "boring" game as in the presentation, but to me a lot of pure gameplay aspects are better in U, from the triple jumps, the bosses, power-ups, and I feel like this review is straight up unfair to U, with a clear recency bias towards Wonder and the overall hypetrain over its more quirky presentation.
@@nvssgoat I was so mad at Wonder for throwing us that evil final final marathon after a child-level difficulty game. This final final course is very unfair and unbalanced, I think it is a design flaw. And it gave me tendinitis. But even not mad now I still think I had more fun playing NSMU. Graphics, animation and soundtrack in Wonder are far superior (the music in this game made me love video game songs again, I had not felt that since SM World and Sonic 1/2), no doubt, but the playthrough is better in NSMU. If NSMU had more interesting powerups than that lame flying squirrel maybe people would respect it more.
NSMBU wins my attention in every way possible. It may not be as "good" as wonder, but it definitely stands out more with better gameplay, world maps, bosses, content, multiplayer, game modes, power ups, graphics and challenges. Stuff wonder seems to lack in my eyes.
What I can't stand about the New Super Mario series are the level designs between Wii and WiiU; you can't tell the difference from which level comes from whichever game. Mario games over the years always have a style to itself differentiate from each other, but are now just terrible recycle assets 70% of the time. I say the only noteworthy New Super Mario are the first game for the DS and 2 for the 3DS for having distinct styles.
Super Mario bros wonder is my favorite 2D Mario game but my favorite Mario game of all time in my opinion and that's super Mario 3D world it reminds me of super Mario 64 which was my favorite Nintendo 64 game right next to toy story 2 the only thing i don't like about it is that yoshi is not in the game but other than that it's a fantastic game 💯💯💯💯
you made a boss category, and you judge on the fight... so is this boss fight category? Because it makes absolutely no sense for Mario Wonder to win this category.
Not a fan of wonder so far. Sure its prettier, but for a multiplayer experience its very lacking. Not being able to interact with other players makes it much less fun and honestly not worth playing when compared to deluxe when playing with friends.
People in this toxic community are probably going to be angry at me for this, and I don’t care. I like NSMBU better. Ok, so here are some of the main reasons for this. While SMB Wonder is interesting, it too weird for me to enjoy. I play Mario because I want to play Mario. Not some psychodelic insanity. Also, I don’t like the concept of needing enough collectibles to move on. It is my main pet peeve with the newer games. Finally, what do you guys have against Peachette? I just wish she wasn’t one of the “easier” characters, but I still mainly use Toadette, and will still do so.
The only minor issue i have with mario u is that the characters slide a bit much other than that I actually enjoyed myself solving puzzles and exploring with the little time they offer you lol. Somewhere bt. 8.5 to 9.0 out of 10
Going into this video, I entirely expected Super Mario Bros. Wonder to win. And...it did by a long shot. I'm gradually warming up to the idea of Wonder and am excited to try it out. It has potential to be one of my favorite Mario games. But...that doesn't mean that I magically hate New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. In case you don't know, I kinda like the NSMB games. For what they lack in ambition and aesthetic, they make up for in accessibility and relative ease. Likewise, Boom Boom and the Koopalings are completely inoffensive to me. As a bigger point? Chances are, SMB Wonder will most likely not replace my special love and memories for Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario All-Stars, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii. As three games in my top 20 of all time, they're practically untouchable. I feel safe in saying that U Deluxe will most likely get further swept under the rug by most people. I, for one, enjoy picking anyone I want in single player and am happy to see Toadette in a home console romp for the first time. For those reasons, I think that I can still come back to it from time to time. Also, I didn't know that Baby Yoshis can eat Boos... I'm glad to give this video a fair watch.
No, New Super Mario bros u has better music, mainly because of the Iconic, "Bah Bah" There are more power ups, like the squirrel suit, ice flower, fire flower, (Yes I know the fire flower is in mario wonder) flying suit, penguin suit, and star thing
There both equally the same honestly. But I can't stand that you can't get the Propeller Mushroom & Penguin Suit until the Special World. That's absolutely stupid.
Bring back red Toad, I'm tired of yellow n blue, just put Toad n Toadette instead n let them have unique gameplay gimmicks, I almost bought a Switch just for Mario
I actually disagree with the music. Maybe it’s just because I’ve played nsmbu so much, but I remember basically every song from that game, but I only remember 3 from Wonder. Also, the claim that nsmbu reuses music from nsmbw is straight up wrong. Your think of nsmb 2.
NSMBU has more new songs than NSMB2, but a large portion of the soundtrack is still a carbon copy of Wii game: the beach theme, desert theme, forest theme, ghost houses, castles, underground, lava theme, and both of the regular boss themes are all taken from it.
Wonder has a lot of variety. I remember all the tracks from there. I also remembered all the tracks from U. But basically ONLY because I’ve listen to it so much times.
@@sahaprocks7751 I’m gonna be honest, I don’t remember saying anything bad about the variety in wonder. I must have wrote that part in my sleep because I don’t agree with it. I guess I’ll change it.
Most people misunderstand the meaning of a timer- it’s not about giving you a time frame just to finish, it’s about forcing you to keep going and giving you score based n your time. The score was crucial- destroying blocks, killing enemies and going fast all rewarded score, and finding the ideal balance of those 3 categories awarded the highest score and thus improved replayability. This is the part where Wonder fails because it’s too streamlined and the difficulty is not there! Finishing most 5 star levels on a first go?!!!! That’s sucks. SMB3 was so much better in that regard. Wonder keep drawing attention with the graphics and effects but the depth is gone. So SMBUD was better in my opinion
the artstyle of nsmbu is better because it's mario, a cohesive identifiable style and not random gimmicks and colors meant to distract you. wonder could be mistaken for any other platformer if it didn't say mario on the box
Just finished Super Mario U Deluxe, it's better, longer, harder, have more coins, have catchy music, each level can be beaten by master or rookie. Now Super Luigi U is waiting! Mario Wonder is beautiful, but it lacks gameplay and challenge.
I feel like the only reason people praise Wonder is because it looks prettier and has a bunch of tiny touches. The presentation is fine, but it's all I can see it having in the long run. If it looked like the boxart, which looks like any other NSMBU game, but kept all the touches people would've been more eager to give it a bit more criticism
I really didn't like the final wonder fight. Also personally I prefer NSMBUD multiplayer because 1. No shared lives 2. No crown, everyone on the screen is shown 3. I don't care about 1 player always having to be playing on easy
Ok, so about what i expected. Honestly with the bosses though. Still dont miss the koopalings. Theyer all just reskins of each other and bowser jr essentially. For sure nsmbudx is not bad by any means...its just nothing special. I do hope we get some side modes/maybe a harder version of mario wonder
After playing wonder I can say for sure that I will never be able to back to wonder! Its such a disappointment after the master piece that was the New U which in my opinion is the best mario game. And I am not joking
@@iLoveBread260 I disagree about it being the worst, but I haven’t played the previous ones so I can’t fairly compare them (but from what I’ve seen they are just nsmbu but with worser graphics, less stuff, and less interesting, but again that is just from what I’ve seen and can’t fairly judge them without playing them) But at least we agree that wonder is worse
Super mario wonder is easily by far the superior game it decimates U in almost every way like music level design, art, visuals, power ups, creativity, world map and many more. It’s definitely a game you will remember playing compared to U which is just a worse copy and paste of the wii. Mario wonder had so much potential with the boss fights but disappointed and the crown on multiplayer really affects the camera those are the only problems I had with wonder. Overall wonder is by far the better game and it ain’t even close
My cousin loved this game. When he would come over for family events I would bring it for the kids well us older teens would hangout in the other room. This is his version of what mario ds was for me! If I only had this when I was a kid
Wonder is way too easy, aside from a few of the very last levels. It’s still a great game but I’m not even that good at games and I beat it full 100% without using any badges unless they were required.
I think this video got it mostly right, but I disagree about bosses. I expected something much more versatile and interesting - there were one or two interesting twists but not enough. Also, most levels are much too easy and offer very little challenge. Yes, there are many levels but way too many are short breaktimes or search party or badge challenges - not actual complete levels. Just pieces of levels. The game looks and sounds great, but with the exception of a handful of levels, I walked/ran through them on first try. Maybe I’ve played too much 2D Mario (When I was 10 I played Super Mario Bros 3 when it was new), but I feel that game by game there is less and less challenge. While being difficult is not automatically a good thing, being too easy makes the game feel a bit too bland. Bros 3 and even Odyssey get the challenge right - fun, not overly difficult. Completing them feels like something I am proud of. Wonder feels like a nice little snack between big meals: It is fun while I am playing, many of the wonder gimmicks are great (but makes the regular 2d sections pale in comparison), but to me, it doesn’t feel like a masterpiece, more like a transition. Still, there is a freshness about it that hints of an interesting future for Mario franchise. As of now, for me, it does not fulfill the expectations hyped.
Interesting you sound like a mix between the guy who played Napoleon Dynamite and Eric from that 70’s show. My ADHD took over and I couldn’t finish listening to you….oh well I’ll hit that like button anyways lol.
vanila is my favorate ice cream. chocolate ice cream may seem interesting compared to vanilla ice cream but we have more chocolate in our life. how many vanilla-flavored things do you have besides ice cream? I like the texture of vanilla ice cream over chocolate and if I want something chocolate-flavored I will have Hershey's (this whole thing is a metaphor for Mario games) also I really don't like that Wonder keeps breaking the pace. if that catipillier didn't talk I think I would like wonder a lot more
Wonder has better graphics and better animations. Everything else NSMBU does better, especially the level design. I replayed NSMBU after I finished Wonder and in direct comparison I found NSMBU much better.
My porblem with Wonder is how short it is and I'll have to wait 11 years to play the next 2D Mario game? What if I get cancer and die? The game feels just as long as SMB3, which at the time was HUGE (I'm old) but is small now and with the option to save, you don't have to replay levels or chose levels on a fork in the road. I want a new 2D Mario game that makes me feel like I felt when I first saw SMB3.
Can you go back to New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe after playing Wonder?
I could go back to the wii U version
Ya
Mario Maker 2 is better.
Ye i went back to nsmb after wonder and was surprised to see all nsmbs (ds wii u and luigi) were more fun to play than wonder, to me.
I still play NSMBU Deluxe up to now, and I'm hoping to play NSMBWii if I get a new Wii console.
Why does no one know what the shoulder buttons are?
@@sonic176yt7yeah you can use the shoulder button but accidentally shake the controller and now your character is spinning in the air Right and do some prawn plant or other flying enemy screw you apparently.
it is L/R/ZL/ZR, we call them shoulder buttons because it is a lot easier than saying L/R/ZL/ZR. @@sonic176yt7
Luigi U had fun with the timer though, and I enjoyed it for that
I agree with that
Luigi U's timer is the same as the main game. They made the seconds last for the length of an actual second instead of a third of a second like it usually does.
“Mmmm actually, the timer was awesome, and is the reason why this video is a joke” 🤓
Idk why everyone is so worth up over the timer. Such a minor nitpick

i know the game says that Toadette is an "easy" mode character but the only changes are that 100 seconds are added to the clock and that you get a power-up that is just the acorn suit with only change being that you get one save when you fall in specifically a bottomless pit
if you ask me i guess its technically easier but when it gets chaotic you might actually appreciate the "help"
Also Toadette swims Better even without the penguin suit
I think Toadette also has better inertia when it comes to stopping, no?
and with the super crown, you get a higher boost than the super acorn, and you lose less height when going normally, also still not much easier, but still easy mode, U deluxe labels toadette ad Easier. with Nabbit being Easiest
@@GreenKnight07 ahh i forgot that she also always has the smimming of the Pinguin suit
@@Moonlow. I guess. Who knows? Maybe an DLC will fix your problems if it happens.
U shouldve won the point for powerups and bosses. Wonder is much better as a game, but U is still pretty decent.
U only wins for bosses just because there’s more character variety.
Aside from the Super Acorn, the power ups in U are pretty underutilized and weren't implemented well. Like you can't even get the Propellar Mushroom & Penguin Suit till the Special World, which is stupid.
@@jaretco6423 But their supposed to be rare, since they are so powerful. Acorn and both Flowers are used often and when they make sense.
I'm not sure if that's an fair argument. I understand what your saying. But that's not exactly an fair category.
@@chillmccool I didn't know that, but even if that's the case, those badges should be unlockable before beating the game, not afterwards.
I will admit Wii U having the challenge mode is a good pro, but Wonder is just oozing with style and charm that makes it much more appealing than Wii U's.
NSMBU has better replay value, Wonder has a better main experience
I love wonder, I feel like it severely lacks replayability outside of online mode though. There's nothing like the nsmb2 challenge modes I hope they add dlc to keep this game fresh and interesting
It has replayability with getting 100%
It's definitely replayability. Just only for the main game and not the side modes. Maybe an DLC or update will add that.
@@murderman8578That's almost every game tbh. I think he means in terms of side content.
You could make up an argument that the online multiplayer for Wonder makes up for it and while it is enjoyable it just isn't the same, the online and local multiplayer lacks that interactivity like in NSMB so i feel like the point should of went to NSMBU only because of the player collision making some fun and chaotic game-play but also the camera making things more cohesive
But either way this is really unfair to put NSMBU against the godly Wonder 😭
Can normal Mario stand a chance against the stylized circus elephants?
Ha! I doubt it!
Why do you think it matters?
The biggest thing NSMBU has over Wonder is that it has actual save files
I noticed that and only after a while I figured out, “it’s because of the unique online concept, right?” At least I can create an additional local user on my Switch (such as “green guy! Challenges” but with the name being within the 10-character limit).
Luigi U is my favorite gameplay wise
I will never like wonder multiplayer only for 1 thing:
The camera.
It just sucks, it is only locked on the player with the crown and the second player just get pushed by the camera everytime, the camera in wonder is not made for multiplayer. I would prefer playing as an op character rather than being pushed everywhere by the camera.
Same
I think for multi-player, if your looking for fair and friendly fun, it goes to wonder, but if your looking for pure anarchy in your multiplayer experience, it goes to U.
Wonder and NSMBU share the same composer. They're both pretty bland, but I'd also have to give a slight edge to U.
**sigh**
Of COURSE nobody’s gonna get off New Soup’s butt about wonderful new kid on the block.
The comparison between the two games is literally that meme of "hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby"
And "bowser vs goombas"

Wonder already wins this arguement, U Deluxe was just another unnecessary port from what I’ve seen.
I'm dying bruh this guy was literally born with the youtube voice 💀💀💀 good video overall tho
I think U is actually the stronger game but it doesn’t have the small touches and visual flair
I really hope that the mario wonder mechanics are in the next mario maker game
Yep
They won't be....
That game was a complete masterpiece, and its among my childhood video games.
thank u! I am very much debating between the 2 games and this video made me make my choice! going to get Wonder!
Yeah, you should definitely get Wonder! But if you are dying for more Mario U. Deluxe is still a great game!
wonder is good but i like mario u better
To me, bosses and power up should've gone to u
And all other would still go to wonder, but ir would be close
I agree on bosses. But power ups? Nah. There both equal. Although in U, you can't get the Propeller Mushroom or Penguin Suit till postgame, which is stupid and makes them alot less limited than the ones from Wonder.
@@jaretco6423 you can get them in the enemie stages
U arent actually slower in the NSMB games. Its just the overly fluid animations making it feel slower. Also you're kinda floaty.
Demeech: Can you name any modern 2d platformers with a timer?
Me: I know one, Sonic Mania.
Doesnt count, it counts upwards and you dont time out after 10 mins like back in 1-3&K.
I wish U had never existed because it’s just a HD rehash of Wii.
YAYYY. MARIO 3D WORLD IS ONE OF MY FAVS 😆
you made a boss category, and you judge on the fight... so is this boss fight category? Because it makes absolutely no sense for Mario Wonder to win this category.
You should do a comparison between this and newer super mario bros wii
Not a fan of wonder so far. Sure its prettier, but for a multiplayer experience its very lacking. Not being able to interact with other players makes it much less fun and honestly not worth playing when compared to deluxe when playing with friends.
You can kill friends with koopa shells. This turns the tide quite a lot
Not to say I don’t enjoy Super Mario Wonder, but it just doesn’t click with me the same way.
I prefer the New Super Mario Bros series over Super Mario Bros. Wonder
The only minor issue i have with mario u is that the characters slide a bit much other than that I actually enjoyed myself solving puzzles and exploring with the little time they offer you lol. Somewhere bt. 8.5 to 9.0 out of 10
This channel basically school bully's New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe. I expected nothing but Wonder to win.
And you managed to gain a new skill with the baby Yoshi. That comment is proof that it's not necessarily about the destination, but the journey.
No, New Super Mario bros u has better music, mainly because of the Iconic, "Bah Bah" There are more power ups, like the squirrel suit, ice flower, fire flower, (Yes I know the fire flower is in mario wonder) flying suit, penguin suit, and star thing
Can you please do Mario 3 vs World next?
New Super Mario Bros. U may not be as good as Super Mario Bros. Wonder, but the power ups in New Super Mario Bros. U are better in my opinion.
There both equally the same honestly. But I can't stand that you can't get the Propeller Mushroom & Penguin Suit until the Special World. That's absolutely stupid.
@@jaretco6423man i see u everywhere defending smw. I wasn't gonna say anything until now because damn dude.. go outside
@jonathanwade3882 Well what can I say. I'm everywhere. And no. How about u go outside and find something better than do?
2:44 I am part of the elite 😎
Personally I would've given the soundtrack point to U. I don't really like the music in wonder.
Reused and all, the soundtracks from DS Wii 2 and U are just straight up bangers imo.
Bring back red Toad, I'm tired of yellow n blue, just put Toad n Toadette instead n let them have unique gameplay gimmicks, I almost bought a Switch just for Mario
Personally i think NSMBU has better boss fights. and the Mario Wonder final boss is to easy.
As bad as the boss battles are in Wii U Deluxe, they are still better than the bosses in Wonder.
They had the opportunity to give the koopalings their own wonder affect, but naaaah. Nintendo loves listening to the wrong fans
@@jonathanwade3882 They aren‘t any „wrong“ fans
The wonder doesnt have the star coins thats a bumer
NSMBU
@@randomjar6934 Now the comment is more agreeable. Kinda
11:26 How is he catching the shell without using his trunk?!? 🤯
Luigi U > Mario Wonder
Luigi U. has so terrible leveldesign
Mario Maker 2 > Mario Wonder
U was good but Wonder is incredible! U made me long for other titles while Wonder raised the bar of what to expect from a Mario game
People really can't stop beating up NSMBU huh
Beating dead horses is the entire point of this channel
@@getuponthemike6341I'm assuming you're a Pokémon Scarlet & Violet fanboy
@@Demeech never played em
@@Demeechwhat does this have to do with his comment? bringing up pokemon here makes no sense
@Dysich "Beating a dead horse" is one of the most commonly used defenses by Pokémon fanboys.
the artstyle of nsmbu is better because it's mario, a cohesive identifiable style and not random gimmicks and colors meant to distract you. wonder could be mistaken for any other platformer if it didn't say mario on the box
Wonder is better because it push mario fowards, instead of having the same style again and again
0:39 what happened to luigi?
Just finished Super Mario U Deluxe, it's better, longer, harder, have more coins, have catchy music, each level can be beaten by master or rookie. Now Super Luigi U is waiting!
Mario Wonder is beautiful, but it lacks gameplay and challenge.
Mario wonder being "just beautiful than NSMBU", just shows how Nintendo only focused on one aspect of the game and not everything else
Wonder is amazing, but I think that in New U the camera is better in multiplayer game.
Once you 100% the game (all 6 medals), you should unlock a timer for levels. That way you can speedrun the levels and compete for world records.
If we loved Wonder and just want more of a similar 4 player side scroller experience, is U good enough to buy and be fun?
I really didn't like the final wonder fight. Also personally I prefer NSMBUD multiplayer because
1. No shared lives
2. No crown, everyone on the screen is shown
3. I don't care about 1 player always having to be playing on easy
I hope we get some DLC for Wonder where we get new bosses and power ups
I will say New Super Mario Bros. U actually was more fun with multiplayer compared to Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Agree
And the bosses
Both are great in my opinion, Wonder obiously wins but are some points in the video in which i think that New U wins so far. Anyways, good video!
Exactly they both are fun
13:45 what?
Considering how much youve slammed the series before for being boring and uninspired. Im interested to see this
Ok, so about what i expected.
Thas my most fav mario game so ur not joking
NSMBU is the worst NSMB game in the series, and yet its better than SMBW
@@iLoveBread260 I disagree about it being the worst, but I haven’t played the previous ones so I can’t fairly compare them (but from what I’ve seen they are just nsmbu but with worser graphics, less stuff, and less interesting, but again that is just from what I’ve seen and can’t fairly judge them without playing them)
But at least we agree that wonder is worse
Super mario wonder is easily by far the superior game it decimates U in almost every way like music level design, art, visuals, power ups, creativity, world map and many more. It’s definitely a game you will remember playing compared to U which is just a worse copy and paste of the wii. Mario wonder had so much potential with the boss fights but disappointed and the crown on multiplayer really affects the camera those are the only problems I had with wonder. Overall wonder is by far the better game and it ain’t even close
I still have my Wii U set up with NSMBU on disc.
My cousin loved this game. When he would come over for family events I would bring it for the kids well us older teens would hangout in the other room. This is his version of what mario ds was for me! If I only had this when I was a kid
5:17 those bah drive me crazy, also the intrumitation is pretty, Super Mario Bros Wonder use MIDI that sound like live instrumitation
Loved the fact you referenced north Korea 💀
I have them both and I’m enjoying them
YESSSS!! Been waiting for this video
So what did you think?
@@Demeechobv amazing
Wonder is way too easy, aside from a few of the very last levels. It’s still a great game but I’m not even that good at games and I beat it full 100% without using any badges unless they were required.
I hope Boom Boom is forever forgotten after replacing our big handsome hunky croc goalies! HOW DARE HE!!!
Ironically Odyssey despite being succesfull was critized for being too easy, similar to wonder
Mario Wonder meat riding?
Interesting you sound like a mix between the guy who played Napoleon Dynamite and Eric from that 70’s show. My ADHD took over and I couldn’t finish listening to you….oh well I’ll hit that like button anyways lol.
"Websters Dictionary Defines..." that's the Jim Belushi of video openings!! 😂
All im gonna say is that this guy is a Wonder kid. His opinion doesnt matter.
vanila is my favorate ice cream. chocolate ice cream may seem interesting compared to vanilla ice cream but we have more chocolate in our life. how many vanilla-flavored things do you have besides ice cream? I like the texture of vanilla ice cream over chocolate and if I want something chocolate-flavored I will have Hershey's
(this whole thing is a metaphor for Mario games)

I really don't like that Wonder keeps breaking the pace. if that catipillier didn't talk I think I would like wonder a lot more
Wonder has better graphics and better animations. Everything else NSMBU does better, especially the level design. I replayed NSMBU after I finished Wonder and in direct comparison I found NSMBU much better.
Not surprised tbh.
I’m mad they took away the tanuki flying squirrel power up away
hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby
the most comparable is the one that started it all: DS.
Honestly, making an game that long wouldn't make the game any better. There might be people complaining that the games are too long.
@@jaretco6423People these days have a lower attention span that theyre too damn impatient to enjoy a 1 hour game
To ba fair nintendo have a long time spand because they had to figure it out how to refresh 2d mario. That's why it took 11 years
2:27 or really hurt by triple a games focusing on graphics too much
How long has this guy been celebrating 10 years for?
