In Artflow you can pin the menus in place by toggling the pin icon on the outside border.
Still, it could benefit from a custom tool/color palette. I too felt like i was spending too much time recreating the same two or three tools over and over again for hours. A lack of copy/paste/transform really limits the finctionality as well.

Hey Brad - First of all these videos are a breath of fresh air, hard to find tablet comparisons from actual artists with such depth - I love it. I've been drawing with Android for a while (cintiq companion hybrid...don't buy one :-) ) - and there's actually a setting in Infinite Painter to turn off pixel smoothing - it's called 'pixel perfect' in settings. I'm not sure if it's available on all devices, though.

I use Medibang Paint quite a lot on my tablet, but I do lineless art because screw having pressure sensitivity. 😂 If you use FireAlpaca or Medibang on the PC, then all of the menus on the mobile version make a lot more sense.
Edit: Also, Medibang does have a canvas crop option. It's just hidden. 😂

I'm using Artflow now, and they have updated the app quite a bit since your video. It's got a ton more options now, with the ability to lock the layer panel on screen, create a floating color palette, it lets you map the volume up and down buttons to undo and redo, and it's the only drawing app I've seen so far that has included keyboard shortcuts in case you want to use a bluetooth keyboard. I'm still learning a lot of the things it can do, but it's quickly becoming my favorite

For an app for drawing, all I care about is have solid strokes that, when closed, I can fill with a paint bucket. Of course I'm not insisting to be THAT bare bones, but although I have not problem being able to emulate pencils and paint and brushes and etc... my main area of an art style is CARTOONY! Much like the kid with the backpack demoed here. A style that ranges from early 80's - late 90's cartoons like He-Man and G.I. Joe to The Real Ghostbusters and The Tick. Those crops of Saturday Morning Cartoons that had proportionately accurate characters.
With that in mind, my app of recommendation is "Sketch". It an app from Sony and may have gotten a longer name somewhat recently, but it'll pop up with a search of "Sketch". It's available on iOS as well, has a premium variant (that may not be COMPLETELY necessary) and DOES NOT blur when zooming in.

I realise their size might make the Galaxy Note phones seem not too credible as graphics tablets but I'd love to see your take on using one for that purpose. You need a bulky case due to the curved display (the Otterbox Defender makes them so much more ergonomic) but I find the form factor actually has its benefits and they're very much capable. So yeah, try get your hands on one, if you see this, please!

  • @fuzzycactus4980

Honestly I had a lot of trouble using paint, mainly because it was too complicated and confusing for me, I'd try to make the brush bigger but I can't seem to find a way to make it either very big or very tiny very quickly, another problem I faced was the lag when I'd draw lines very quick, it's probably because of my phone but I didn't have the same issue with auto desk. Personally I believe that auto desk is way better mainly because it's way easier to navigate and I went as far as to get the full version, even though it has less tools .

During the past few months, the developers of ArtFlow finally woke up an rolled out quite a few AMAZING updates , including UI facelift, lasso tool (at last) and some more. Overalll, it gives the best drawing 'feeling' and flow, is very intuitive and finally sophisticated enough to compete with Infinite Painter. IP is really great, with lots of tools, but the brush will often have a much more pronounced lagging to it while drawing. And it starts getting annoying if you sketch and paint the most pretty quickly. None of that in ArtFlow, though. I'd say AF is the best app for illustration and drawing on Play Market, and IP a close second.

Hey Brad, love your videos but I have a super important question that no one has seemed to answer yet. So I turn to you. Mobile art app to desktop software workflows. I'm debating getting an iPad pro or a Samsung Tab (both with pens) with the hope of taking my casual mobile sketches to Photoshop on my home work station for finishing, and if in-progress, back to mobile so I can keep working in the in between moments. Could you show your workflow to and from your mobile devices and home set up? And what drawing software has the best exporting for more editing functionality? I'm a PC girl and I'm not sure what the iPad to PC with editable file transfer would look like with mobile tablets a d their various software. It's the biggest factor in my final decision on iPad or Samsung. I hope this question finds you well! Thank you!

Thank you very much for this. I can't really afford the Ipad so I am planning to get a Galaxy. And this was quite helpful. I've never really drawn on any tablet before so advice like this is quite nice.

Can't understand why you complained about the tool palettes in Art Flow. If you want them to stay open then pin them down (that's what the pin icon is for)

the name of the last app is infinate painter. that might help they also have another app call infinate designer which deals in vector drawing which is kind of cool. I havent used it much but I use the painter over sketchbook pro because once I unlocked pro it just seemed to lag my note 10.1 gen 1 to unusable speeds

Ibis Paint X and Artflow are the best art apps for Android. Built in stabilizer, tons of brushes and no lag.

Hey! If you're looking for a good android painting app that doesn't blur pixels, check out Corel Painter Mobile! I've been using it with just a regular, no-pressure stylus but it's super powerful and fun to work with! The only thing it doesn't have is custom brushes (I think).

where do you get stylus for android that doesn't have the fat rubber tip nor the samsung plastic disk? I've been looking for a stylus for android more like the apple one. very handy.
