You are our only neighbour, and no offence my British friend but the last time there was any kind of a conflict between Ireland and Britain Ireland didn't do too badly. A group of peasants and farmers brought the might of the British Empire to its knees. Fair enough they didn't get the North but thats a dirty Orange hole anyway. If you put it into context what if California wanted to leave the USA by way of use of arms? Lol good luck with that one. But this is more or less what Ireland achieved, with no complex naval ships or a defensive radar system. Look i am not trying to crap on my British Brothers but it is what it is. I know guys that left the Irish Army and went North of the border and joined up, one guy is a sniper in a Royal Marine Commando's. Irish Soldiers are great its just down South they are PURELY a defence force. And don't worry John if anyone tries to invade Ireland they are going to suffer. Ireland will hold its own. Who is going to invade? Russia? Not happening. The UK? Never going to happen. So why be paranoid and spend Billions on something that isn't going to come about? NATO, well Ireland isn't part of NATO and recent events have exposed Russia as being the most Mickey Mouse force in Europe so all of your budgets for all of these years was all for NOTHING! I'll finish by saying that me personally, I'm an Anglophile, GOD SAVE THE KING!
@@stephenoneill2844 a full answer if a bit angry. You guys all sleep in your beds safely due to other nations spending at least 2% of their GDP on the first duty of any state. Protecting its citizens. I wonder how your argument would work in Ukraine. I’m an old guy now, 58 years old but for 28 years I served in every shit hole that the British military ever was involved in. I started as an 18 year old in Belfast then Bosnia, then Gulf War 1, then Gulf War 2. I’ve been around.
@@johnkelly9160 Well OK, we will use Ukraine as a yardstick then. The World didn't allow Ukraine to fall in the face of an invasion, and IMO Ukraine won't fall. Again, who is going to invade Ireland? NO ONE John, that's my point. So why spend all of that money/budget on something that isn't going to happen? You guys are in NATO, why spend on that budget every single year for the Mickey Mouse Russians that can't even handle Ukraine? Never mind the might of NATO, they wouldn't stand a chance! so again why this huge budget on "battle tanks" and so on. And for the record all of Russia's tanks are being taken out by javelins so a javelin automatically neutralises the threat of a tank, and I can tell you first hand that Ireland he many a Javelin.
Wow Sir you sure have been around for sure. Iraq twice? OMG you must have had a great rank then? For the record I was in KOSOVO when I was in the Irish Army, you mentioned Bosnia is the only reason I am sharing this.
Cant take this military seriously I live in Ireland and the British do everything they fight and protect us the Irish just put on a show
Put down the union jack there salty lad. Why u even here watching?
