      @@bcooper7618 I honestly would say 80% of adf members have that thought in recent years, its a joke now.. so many issues and just plain stupidly built from from bottom to top.
      not only are they trying to just appeal to modern movements and trying to "diversify" the system, its also just a horrible power trip of ranks and needs a massive overhaul.
      not only that I believe that our adf will be ran over within weeks by any of the large neighbouring countries so a defence force it really wouldnt be doing its job anyway

    • @bcooper7618
      @bcooper7618 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@a_turn_of_events8390 Still have alot of friends that are in so still have a decent finger on the pulse. I cant speak about the RAN specifically but for blokes in grunts and SF units things seem to still be relatively fine. I agree the whole PC shift is total crap and isnt doing the ADF any favors. The threat for us being invaded isnt any more real now than it was 20 years ago so i think thats a little overplayed. The point more is about not discouraging young players from joining the ADF because you had a bad personal experience. Good careers and experiences are still on offer and alot of those experiences your never going to get on civi street. Worst case scenario is your do your 4 and no harm no foul.

    • @a_turn_of_events8390
      @a_turn_of_events8390 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I only speak for myself and those around me, but I was inf and had some shitty officers above me, I think its time to change how our rank system works. but to change how to top brass see's us you need the top brass themselves to change things and no one sitting on a throne wants to move over to a stool.
      I wouldnt say I enjoyed my time in, and I am a little fucked up physically now but I wanted it and would do it again. the only real advice Id give to kids is wait, or have a serious back up plan not related to the job; i.e police (like me) youll learn real quick that if you cant be a soldier anymore you probably cant be a cop XD
      Edit: just to add to saying that I didnt enjoy my time in, I definitely made some hilarious memories but those mostly came from off base with friends.

  • @williambroadstreet3353

    Great video. Below are only a small fraction of defence kit to be purchased. Many have been left out for space sakes.
    Projects in the pipeline that will be signed off on/selected soon.
    1. self tracked artillery
    2. Boxer that's been selected [Phase 3 we still do not know as testing is currently taking place for the tracked option with Lynx arguably better but immature/the Koreans REALLY want this contract as they do the 'Aussie Thunder self tracked artillery they missed out on a decade ago when Gillard butchered DoD Outlays to 1938 levels]
    3. Reaper [the latest version]
    4. G550 SingInt for RAAF
    5. M1ADSIA Abrams will be either replaced unit for unit or upgraded to M12SEP [not sure if they'll go with the new US army 3 plus as it's immature, Australia has a poor record of buying immature designs [NH90/AHR] for example so SEP will likely be the option and plugged in to US army's growth platform
    6. Hunter Class which although tasked as primarily ASW this will be a big ship, a REAL destroyer at max 9000 tonnes with a lot of room for growth SM3/6
    7. Hobarts are still waiting on funds for SM3/6 and insanely TLaM
    These are only major projects. The submarine debacle will have to be fixed soon as the current contractual [I say that in jest] as DoD/Russell are pathetic at contracts, this need is now beyond urgent with the PLANs aggressive moving into the pacific. Their Type 55's are seriously impressive and their sub fleet is expanding.
    What Australia has is geography. This week a billion dollar upgrade of one of the key norther air bases will see the runways stretched to enable the B52s to land and an increase in USMC rotations numbers wise.
    The real issue for Australia is protection of critical sea lanes. Hence the submarine debacle. At some point realpolitik will dictate the pissweak political class will have to look at the Virginias. Australia does not need to have an indigenous nuclear industry, even if they have one it is small. All refits and work can be done in the US. Time will tell.
    The NH90 is replacing SOCOMD/A's Blackhawks Tag East/West and SASR are furious they're losing their Blackhawks. The number of dud kit calls are too many to mention. That EADS are even allowed to bid for the AHR replacement shows how pathetic Russell is. The taxpayer money wasted on AHR's is appalling. Yes they're a good helo but their flying hours a decade out are pathetic. MOTS/FMS as much kit as possible. De risking must be, along with giving the men and women who serve the best kit possible.

    • @Mr539forgotten
      @Mr539forgotten 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@Alex-gf4iu Quick 2 sentence explanation of why Australia's military is perfect to defend us from invasion:
      1. The logistics of invading a country so geographically isolated and surrounded by water is so immense that it's nearly impossible to invade us
      2. We are geographically massive and well spread out, as far as our populace goes. They've done studies as to weather we could be invaded and how it would happen. The only way to invade Australia is from the northern coastline of Western Australian, roughly from Exmouth to Broome, excluding the Porth Headland region, as this is the most exposed and least populated section of coastline in Australia. This essentially drops you in the desert. The other option is to literally parachute into the desert. Interestingly enough, Bear Grylls did it years ago for his bush survival series; put shortly, it's not easy to survive in the central Australian deserts - much less launch an invasion from such a location.
      3. The East Coast is littered with population centres and bases. There's a very strong, though behind the curtain military presence in Peth with one of our nations best special forces units, the SASR and navy clearance diver units based just out of Port Fremantle, essentially, which is the sole portal for all our shipping and commerce and this military force is strong enough to protect the port, the entire city (believe it or not) and our coastal waters and shipping lanes. We literally have 24/7 patrols out in the northern corridor of Western Australia and in the Northern Territory for military defence, though these are really just 'security' patrols, not 'defence' patrols - the landscape provides 99% of our defence.
      4. If you just generally want the cheat codes to make a country invasion proof the list is basically to have a very large landmass which is sparsely populated and spread out, have an extreme or inhospitable climate (such as very high heat and vast deserts) and have a geographically isolated and distant landmass, such as something the size of the continental US out in the middle of the ocean roughly equidistant and far from all military forces that could potentially launch an invasion. Australia essentially ticks all these boxes.

      @@bcooper7618 Yes, it was pretty much a fight between a minnow and several whales and the minnow won. Patriotic sentiment aside Australia has no grounds to claim that it's anything other than an insignificant military power. As far as being the bravest, how do you measure that? The Germans had a kill ratio that eclipses any army so even if their force had been scaled down to Australia's they would have wiped Australia. Same applies to many other countries. Canada too did some astonishing things in WW2 but we are too buy beating our chests to acknowledge that. Australia can't even sort it's submarine fleet out. That's ok as long as we continue to target 3rd world countries but God help us should we encounter a genuine military power.

      @书中自有黄金屋 I'm not sure I quite understand what you're saying. The term defending can be interpreted different ways. It doesn't necessarily mean the forces have to go to war, but just partake in an act the would benefit the people of the Australian nation or its allies. For example, Operation Bushfire Relief, was a joint operation undertaken by members of the Army and Navy, aiding people in coastal parts of New South Wales that had been trapped in their towns by large bushfires. Several Navy vessels sent supplies and acted as a ferry, picking up stranded residents from the beach and taking them away from the fires. Meanwhile, hundreds of Army personnel aided in extinguishing fires, cleaning up road ways and aiding injured residents. To me, that's what it means to be apart of the ADF, to help those in need no matter the situation.

      @wattlebough 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So many reasons why that happened. Ultimately that came down to mispurposing the SASR. They have always been covert long range reconnaissance specialists and hostage rescue counter terrorists. Kill/ Capture raids at the tempo of Afghanistan have never been part of the SASR mission, and hence I believe that due to the sudden re-roling of the SASR as the Afghanistan invasion transitioned in to a conflict of a different nature to more traditional counter insurgencies, the procedures in place that the SASR patrols operated on were not adequate to prevent a break down of dscipline from mental fatigue and loss of morale through over-deployment. The mental health of the operators was not adequately monitored and post mission debriefs were not always adequately thorough.
      It's my belief now that all operators should be issued body cams as a record of each mission, and if it doesn't already exist, a unit should be attached to the SASR who's job is to view all footage that the soldiers would routinely hand in as part of the debrief. This footage would also form part of each operators performance review to ensure that they are following procedure and acting ethically. If the operator is found to be showing signs of a lack of discipline in the field, they should be psychologically assessed and given retraining if appropriate and put on leave to allow them to rebalance. If they are deemed unfit to return to work they can be re-assigned to another role within the Regiment until they recover their mental health. That's my thoughts.
