- In September 2023, Irish intelligence services began monitoring a suspicious Bulk Carrier called the MV Matthew. After the vessel entered Irish territorial waters, the Irish Military Command authorised an operation to seize the Matthew so that its cargo could be inspected.

The intelligence gathering and observation of the vessel before it became a suspect was actually very impressive. That monitoring was key. And kudos to the ranger wing for a successful op. Those guys are extremely professional and good at what they do.
You dont think they already knew lol?
Who knew what? @@bohemenper1636
shame they cant protect the irish from another english instigated genocide of irish with multiculturalism is it!
Whoever planned that location spoofing wasn'tthe sharpest knife in the drawer. Sending blatantly implausible signals is practically yelling "Look at me; I'm up to mischief".
Which may be exactly what happened. For an intelligence agency not wanting to risk exposing their source making the spoofing look ridiculous not only provides an excuse to interdict, it also puts the blame for being caught on someone else.
@@louiscypher4186 An interesting suggestion. It's a perennial problem with intel that revealing what knowledge (explicitly or by actions) may blow a potentially reusable source.
@@louiscypher4186 You have a devious mind but that doesn't mean you're not right. There was a rule during WW2 that Ultra from Bletchley Park could never be used as a direct reason for interdiction. There always had to be a plausible alternate reason and sadly lives were sometimes lost when such an alternate could not be generated in time.
I does work sometimes unfortunately. The russians keep doing it with their oil tankers.

Top quality by all parts of Irish personnel. 👏👏👏🇬🇧
The William Butler Yeats is a Samuel-Becket-Class patrol vessel. Most literary coast guard ever.
Ireland is the "most literary" nation ever.

The 2nd AW 139 was providing sniper cover, the Rangers had no way of knowing the crew were unarmed. From the video you can see the ship was making a hard to port manoeuvrer to avoid a boarding, it was also heading for international waters, probably to dump it's cargo. Rumour has it, the Maritime Task Unit of the Army Ranger Wing conducted this operation.
There was no 2nd AW 139 they had to strip an air ambulance AW 139 and put a machine gun on it the as the rest of the AW 139 fleet was grounded
@@veronicadredd22 Good info, thanks! Do you happen to know reason behind the grounding of the other AW 139's?
ireland sent their whole army
@@veronicadredd22I findthis unbelievable that the fleethad been grounded.
There has to be down time for the helicopters for maintenance but the whole helicopter fleet
Which are probably better than most larger armies!!!! @@bohemenper1636
Very impressive. I live in Colombia and news like this heartens all responsible Colombian citizens who want no part of this evil trade.
Great to see the Irish armed forces making a difference. I am Canadian with irish citizenship as well and Irish armed forces are a lot like canadian armed forces in that they are doing humanitarian work and stopping international crime. Good job Ireland
Their use of location manipulator probably drew more attention towards themselves
Thanks for making this video, I'm very proud to have such a small but such an effective force protect us each and every day.
Interesting to see that the ship was trying to evade the helo as it was hovering above the deck… good luck with that! Great job!
The Army Ranger Wing again proved that it is a strong and capable force able to respond quickly to any threat. I love the understatement, "several crewmen acted in an hostile manner, but were soon overcome by members of the ARW." I am sure! I also wish the government of Ireland would understand the need to have a strong and flexible Navy. The Irish Navy does wonders with limited equipment and personnel, imagine how effective they would be with proper support. Well Done to all!
"offered resistance" ... bet that was painful for someone.
Yes another excellent video clip, it really makes a person feel safe when we know special forces are all around us what would we do without them, not much not much pay virtually no recognition because it’s all kept secret. 👏👏
The drugs being forced into Europe would be poetic justice. Where do you think the drugs came from and who taught them how to make it?
Thanks for keeping our waters safe! 🇮🇪🇬🇧
@davidhughes4898our special forces in Ireland regularly train with sas and British army
The tri colour is a representation of the Irish government who are in good terms with uk.

GREAT work Irish, Gods Speed
Thank you for real world accurate and truthful information!
Unbelievable the lengths the underworld goes to further their goals.
Well done Ireland ! May God Three in One keep your shores safe.

I wish I was raised in a small country like Ireland, although I grew up in a small town along the Florida Atlantic Ocean. In hindsight, my town is as beautiful as your village along the coast. We have fifty states! Imagine trying to manage a country as big as that! We are trying. Thank you for producing this beautiful video of the capture of a vessel with the largest amount of cocaine on-board in Irish history. seizure
Congratulations to the Irish Rangers, from your neighbours in Northern Ireland, getting this Cocaine off the streets was great work!
Bravo à l'Irlande. Très bon job.
You can see the ships rudder hard to port to make the heli insertion difficult
Fine looking OPVs, Ireland's Samuel Beckett Class ships and with each of them mounting a 76mm Oto Melara autocannon as their main gun armament, they're well suited to undertake the most challenging constabulary deployments, too.
Nice video mate. We hear very little about the Irish Ranger Wing.
Because they're special forces.
We're not supposed to know anything about them.
@@RazorMouthyeah that and also they don’t get tasked often they just train a lot which is probably better as they have a wide skillset in Mari time and conventional warfare so when they do get into a bad situation they would incredibly prepared

Fantastic intelligence by the Irish Military who were able to intercept and board the MV Matthew with her dangerous cargo of Drugs!
The scariest part of this is that Piracy appears to be entering a deadly new era. Even California isn't immune, as the Coast Guard and local Police are actively fighting Pirates down there.
This is smuggling, not piracy
@@masonicperkins It was piracy when the drug smugglers hijacked the ship.
Also scary, it has become a proper noun.
There is no piracy off California's coast. Only panga boat smuggling by night.
@@minirock000Our Western world, sadly, is awash in ignorant masses.
Wow thanks for the upload. Great job by the rangers. These smugglers are so brazen
Well done covering this story,Which highlights the professionalism of our navy, but effective. These lads and women deserve to be looked after better by the Irish Authorities. The force is being hollowed out by Not Paying these young Troops Enough to raise their family's. Just wanted to highlight this travesty, You professional young Troops keep them, Pay Them.🇮🇪
Army Rangers....a very tough lot...
No mention of the Yacht that ran aground of the Wexford coast. This yacht was bought in Castletown Bere a fishing port in West Cork. Sold in good faith the seller became suspicious when the two buyers displayed little knowledge of the sea. The Air Corps Heli took off from Waterford, a small regional airport located a mile or two from the coast.
It was a fishing boat, and it's mentioned in the text at the closing sequence.
Excellent video, the production quality on these is always incredible!
Apart from the pronunciation.
I really enjoy the presentations you make, they're really good! Thanks for the research and time involved. Keep up the great work you do.👍
I suspect this barely scratches the surface of the Matthew, Dublin was point man in a much larger operation.
Go Ireland, so proud of the Army.
"Quick, act as suspiciously as possible so they won't know we're suspicious!"
Thank you for the upload!
The second helicopter is for rescue operations. If one of the other aircraft had a problem or a man got injured.
It has since been released that 2nd helicopter had a team of snipers on board to cover the lads who landed on the deck of the ship.
Always excellent content from you! Thx a lot, man. Greetings from Copenhagen, Denmark :)
"So now your Special Forces Father Ted"
Sorry could't resist it
"The cocaine was just RESTING in the ship"
'I hear you're an Army Ranger now, Father. How'd you get into that type of thing?'
Great video, please make more. Cheers!
The 'G' at the start of Geraghty is hard - as is the 'C' at the start of Celtic ;-)
Continually changing destinations sure seemed suspicious, as did renaming a vessel so quickly; or does that happen often?
I’m actually angry with the Colombia, that stuff should be already prepared to be loaded in a hour without giving suspicion and once reached close to uk ring ahead and say what time and location meet point. If they is a delay loading the cargo abandon job, results of that cost farmers and labourers plenty time and labour..
Thanks again for the top notch content
Proud to be Irish.
This ship entered my city with that amount of cocaine and I didn't even notice
The first part is incorrect. The vessel did not have engine trouble.
A smaller craft met with this ship this ship ran aground on the Irish coast. The local report to the Garda that two inexperienced sailer just bought a boat that week.
When the smaller boat ran aground the coast guard started to look for the mother ship and found it!!
Where did you discover this information?
@@rorymac7714 it was huge news in Ireland ! Google drug ship off Ireland and read the news story written by the Irish times.
Go on Irish!!!
Still amazing to think a vessel that size has a crew of only 24 men.
stormy seas and slippery decks..and maybe crew armed and heavy winds..this has to go down as one of the great operations...proud of the rangers
Another great video
€157m cocaine seizure, decent bit of work by the IRW and combined task force......
Never knew the Irish even had special forces.
Irish Rangers won the International Sniper Competition in 2015.
Well now you do!
Ireland isn't the first country that pops into people's minds when it comes to anything military related, so it's understandable.
That’s what they want you to think
Liveth has a video of ARW in Liberia in 2004 if you want to know a bit more about them.
Makes you wonder how many carriers of misery were not intercepted before reaching destination.
Good oul boise, top-class commentary.

Good job Ireland! My Irish branch of ancestors came across in 1600s. But then half Cherokee the original code talkers.
Irish Rangers are a good bunch, semi worked with them in Somalia. Granted it was predominantly their HQ side, in the Embassy Compound. Hats off to you guys. UNISOM DEMINER 😎🇬🇧
If it was raining at night while thundering it would have been the intro to COD MW. Low key got flashbacks 😂
Fantastic video
You just go Guys !
Only seeing this now! Fantastic info some I didn't know!!👏🏻👏🏻😍 also fair to say it must have been a rough ride over with lack of bulk cargo on board AND could have have done the journey successfully before 🤷 plus may have had off loaded/delivered some drugs BEFORE being caught ????
They could just name the ship "Mafia."
They could not plan this any less obvious 😂 did they really think they are not being watched?
Go team!
Gwanese?? 😂 For real though, that part of the seas near Venezuela's gotta be savage!!
I, too, never heard of the "gwana" country. In the Caribbean, they call iguanas by that name.😂😂

"What is the MV Matthews current location"
Intelligence Officer:
"She's parked up at a Dennys Diner in Kilgore, Texas"
Commander:
" Something doesn't feel right, that ships way to big to fit in the carpark"

Rol-land!!!
Watch the " Siege of Jadoville" and that showed for a small nation how well we have performed on UN duty, the tactics and strategy used in the Jadoville episode was used by Australia for infantry training.
Sal at What is Going on With Shipping? just posted a great piece on rogue bulk carriers who are attempting to skirt international oil embargoes on Russian, Iranian, and Venezuelan oil. It appears that drug cartels and human trafficking rings need to be brought under closer scrutiny in the 21st Century. The world has the technology to track illicit cargoes. We simply need the international will to beef up international supervision and tracking of efforts by rogue operators to do damage to populations across the world in the name of greed and corruption.
👍
Canada Ports ship huge numbers of high end stolen vehicles in Sea-Cans to Eastern Bloc crap holes. and I just don't understand it. I had to sign off on vehicles being exported all over the world, and my bosses Brokers' license stood being revoked if anything was untoward. We also got calls from vehicles shipped way back fifty years ago, and would have to confirm the serial numbers and proper paperwork for transfer of ownership, no matter what country called. !!!
Haven't watched the video yet but im sure whatever happened everyone sat down with a pint after and everything was grand 🍻
Had no idea the ROI even had special forces 😂
We do. Small unit. Usually hovers just above or under 100 members.
Cool
gnarly
Is there something about this same vessel loitering for 3-5 days of the Canary islands!?
When bulk carriers are being used for smuggling, you know people are either getting desperate or greedy. This was an outrageous attempt.
That are good lads and girls
And i bet you they were home in time for their tea 😅
Irish Special Forces? Heck, I didn't even know that Ireland had an Army.
Ireland has a Army Navy and Air Force. Irish Special forces have also won many competitions against other tier 1 SF and have been deployed too iraq Syria Mali and Lebanon to name a few working with US, UK, Poland, German special forces along with others

Ireland has special forces!!😮
Damn right and they are extremely trained in everything from maritime to espionage to land and hostage operations. Ireland is neutral so they are mainly used for rescue operations for irish citizens or visa holders trapped in war torn countries
It's hard enough to get cocaine on the street now without the Irish pirates seizing the ship. LOL
🇺🇸
Bravo Zulu to the Defence Forces!
Cargo vessels are being used for illicit activities more oten than you'd think. Law enforcement and companies all over the world should be more vigiliant to prevent this kind of things from happening
It's pronounced 'kelltick' not the celtic like the Glasgow football team
Very suspicious that the Matthew was so high in the water.
I understand that ‘computers’ auto monitor ship movements against assorted ‘rules’ of navigation and behaviour…reporting ‘rule’ logic breakers.
I believe that is our only operational naval vessel currently.
Incorrect.
The ships are operational but it is difficult to crew them because of shortages of key staff attracted to commercial shipping by big buck contracts. In an emergency they all could sail but day to day only two or three at present.
The other one is heiping muslims invade across the medetraian
I've loaded and unloaded container ships , I thought it would be possible if the ships layout permitted containers in the stack to be used as machine gun nests . Those containers could be self contained with arms and ammo with openings to fire out of or close for storage or bad weather.
The smugglers are gonna need a new approach avoid detection
The Irish Defence Force, the IDF you can support.
I'm sure these guys train with UK Special Forces as they may do joint exercises/operations due to the close nature of their countries & territorial waters. Good Skills, Good Drills.
Great upload as always.
what the cocaine originated in Columbia South America?! Shocked face!
