I had the same issue with the snap closures. I fastened the snap in place, with sinew. Now, the buckle must be relied on. I like it much better. They are great packs.
what did you do to the buttons so they don't come undone? just glue them or something? I love this bag and want to get it and i don't like those buttons either.
