      Great video.
Just a question ? Should we train legs with weights or should we avoid weight lifting all together ? Do weight lifting make things worse ? ? Should i stop working out my legs in short ? Also i like walk barefoot at home, should i stop that ? I like hiking also as a way of training .... should i stop going hard with hiking ? Will make things worse ?

The video is informative, helpful, and appreciated. I would like to know if you know or believe that the damaged valves in the veins can regenerate and heal over time with a generally rejuvenating noninflammatory diet, and appropriate exercises ( stretching and straightening of lower legs, etc.) I may also try horse chestnut or oak bark compresses.

I’ve never been overweight. I’m an exercise physiologist and yoga teacher, I used to teach aerobics and indoor cycle classes. I’m fit and active person who eats a healthy diet.
My weight, at age 59 and a half, is the same as it was at 19.
    I don’t sit all day.
My brother had his varicose veins stripped out in his 20’s. My Mother developed veinous ulcers, and I feel lucky that mine didn’t show up until now.
Just wanted to say that it’s not always an unhealthy lifestyle that’s causing issues.

      I appreciate your videos.
The weird thing is, every doctor says that the best way to prevent varicose veins is to stop being sedentary and overweight - but when I ask am I overweight - well, they know I’m not. So they are just repeating something from the textbook instead of looking at the patient.
One of the veins around my ankle has gotten really uncomfortable- it’s the place that was damaged after a skydiving accident. So I’m going to have sclerotherapy on that one and a few others.

Since you asked, I wish you'd spent more time specifically addressing spider veins or done a completely separate video about it. At 50 I haven't got varicose veins but I have several unslightly spider veins. The first 45 years of my life I was within normal weight range, except with each of my 3 pregnancies during my 20`s when I gained 45-50 lbs each time. With the added weight and a desk job, it was then that I got my first spider veins, but I easily got back down to normal weight after each pregnancy. The last 5 years or so, with perimenopause and Hashimoto's I have put on an extra 20 lbs that I'm having hard time taking off, however I haven't got any new spider veins in many years, just the ones from my 20`s and pregnancies. Anyway, it was hard to distinguish whether what you were talking about was with regard to varicose or spider veins and if the solutions you talked about would actually make them disappear, which is what I desperately want because they're hideous. It is my understanding that varicose veins and spider veins are 2 different things, so I'd appreciate a thorough discussion about treatments to remedy specifically spider veins separate from varicose. Thanks!

I was wondering if they were the same as well. My mom had HUGE green bean pod veins which she had removed in 1977. The spider ones were still there but the intense pain from all the years of walking thousands of miles in the Amazon and before that across Europe were minimized. I still remember her praising Dr. Yamaguchi. I inherited he left leg. 😥

You didn't have any symptoms with the spider veins..?I have spider veins but ony left feet down are varicose veins.I feel heavy my legs, especially going up the stairs..For me also is not clear this video, doesn't specifically explain when a treatment is necessary before any ulcers or phlebitis.Venus insufficiency does not require any treatment for varicose or spider veins?

This video is INCREDIBLE. Packed full of extremely valuable information for an issue that I have had for most of my adult life but continues to get worse. However, I have been an avid exerciser all of my life so that may be what has prevented it from getting worse than it is. I am now in my 60s and the discoloration (minor) on my shins has started which is not something I have had before. Just such valuable advice and reinforcement for me to go see our vein doctor!

My various veins disappeared 3 weeks after taking 30,000 IUs of Vitamin D3, now I am on 20,000 IUs as my kidney began to ache which means reduce the dose till it stops aching. But the veins are disappearing, muscles are feeling stronger (heart), white dots on my arms are fading and my skin is regenerating.

Great informative video! My doctor sent me to a dermatologist for a bruise that did not go away. She suggested supportive socks. She said t hat she wears them all of the time. But for me, they are too hot during the summer. As an alternative, I like wearing my leggings which are still supportive but are only one layer and some have mesh panels that make them cooler. But she did not tell me everything that you have. The bruise was from repeated injury to the same area that did not go away. Also, my lower leg is sensitive. However, walking and exercise does help! I like the message and stretches are a good idea! I will try that too! I will look at your walking shoes and slipers for summer.
    Thank you for the advice!

Some people have ‘hidden varicose veins’ and yes it is well worth getting the treatment as long as it is the appropriate professional treating them with the correct procedures. I know because I have been through the lot and some doctors have little idea what they are talking about.

I'm starting to get spider veins on my legs. I though it was just genes, because my mom had them really bad but when I look at her poor lifestyle and horrible diet, I think has contributed more than just genes. I sit a lot in my job and I think this, my poor SAD diet, and lack of exercise has caused mine to appear. But I think working out, especially targeting the legs by doing sprints resistance training will improve things. Better diet too. I do wear compression socks and that seems to help. I truly believe that taking care of one's legs can add many more precious years to live. Legs is life!

I was hoping you would have given more advice regarding how to treat spider veins . I have lost weight and I do walk regularly however this has not changed my spider veins, I do have high BP that is controlled by medication , I also have suffered with a disease called Endometriosis for many years and I recently read that suffering from inflammation in your pelvic area can cause spider veins too, I wonder if you can advice if this is correct ? Also can you advice anything else that I can try as I really don’t want to have surgery however I really want to get. Rid of these as it has such an affect on my confidence. Thank you for your help.

Like 20 lbs and my legs didnt lose that much fat. Very odd. All sorts of veins started popping out all over my legs. Within a few month period.

What about laser treatments on varicose veins? Is it effective? Does it render results for venous insufficiency? Or is it solely a cosmetic removal of the unsightly veins? Any consequence? Please explain what exact laser treatments are available and what they result. Thank you for all your information.

How come these Dr's here in Milwaukee don't take this stuff seriously? I am almost 37, have done mostly labor jobs, and I think I have developed osteoarthritis along w/the spider veins. These Dr's just wna Rx meds and bye! My right inner ankle is inflamed by the end of the day and it connects the pain up to my outer knee going up to my hip. Is that a blood clot or my joints?

I have had varicose veins since I was in my early 20's. Had 3 x surgery, last one about 12 years ago. I was always fit and active and a good weight till about 10 years ago. In my late 40s now and the varicose veins have started to appear on my thigh. They are ugly and I can't remember the last time I went bare legged. I have worn compression stockings, exercised, nothing seems to have worked. I have been left with thick scarring where they made the incisions on the back of my knee during the 3 surgeries. It's funny because it's only in one leg too, like you said.

    • @DrTomBiernacki
      @DrTomBiernacki  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Everyone is different, but I almost always see varicose veins in the tighter, stiffer, or previously injured leg. This is usually the leg that has to work harder (as a result of surgery, rehab, or prior injury). The more weight, age, stiffness, poor shoe support, and lack of exercise are added, the more likely it is to have swelling and varicose veins. But again, this is not 100% for everyone.

@@DrTomBiernacki I also have joint hypermobility and suffer a lot with joint pain, repetitive strain injuries, bursitis and now arthritis. Doctor told me early onset varicose veins are more common in those with joint hypermobility, especialky those with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Though I haven't been tested fir Ehlers, I do have a lot of the problems associated with it like varicose veins, hernias, recurrent sprains, strains and dislocations. Anyway, I enjoy your videos, thanks for uploading.

I wish you had addressed pregnancy more. Also, varicose veins seem to run families. I’ve had mine since I was 30 and I’ve always been healthy and never overweight. It seems like my pregnancies have aggravated my veins worse each time.
Friendly feedback- didn’t need the images of making healthy food choices especially taking pizza away from the kid. It was a little fat shaming.
