Let's not forget that "No" is a complete sentence. The reasoning behind why OP will not hand over a baby to her SIL is irrelevant. Even if the SIL was a wonderful person, infertile and desperate for a child, it makes no difference. The SIL's attitude is not the problem, it's the asking in the first place, no matter the circumstances.

In France they take such matters very seriously and it will not just be the local Gendarmes who will act. They have something similar to your national guard but far more assertive and not to be messed with. Moving to France was such a good idea!

As someone who actually has a mental illness, we don’t use it as an excuse to behave badly. In fact we try to be on our best behavior as much as possible. We take our meds, go to therapy and do what is right. The sil and mil are not I’ll just assholes!

Please do not say that, momshardrockvideos. Many people with mental illness DO NOT realize it, or don't take their meds or go for help. I know that, because it took me a very long time to go for and get help. By the time I realized that I was the problem, not the rest of the world, I had destroyed every family relationship that I had, except for my birth father and 2 older brothers.
Even though I am under excellent care now, and take my meds as prescribed, my dad and brothers are now passed away, and I have nobody, not even my own children. Forgiveness, love, and understanding definately do not exist in my family, and even friends have abandoned me. At age 65, I have now given up waiting for prior relationships to renew. Totally abandoned, but my small circle of new friends know of my problems, and accept me for who I am.

This story reminds me of another reddit post from a few years ago. This woman and her husband were pregnant with twins. The MIL and SIL were insistent that this woman give up one of her twins since the SIL was unable (?) to get pregnant. Some crazy people like this MIL think children are disposable.
I remember that story.
I would have filed restraining orders and no contact orders against both MIL and SIL for both you, your husband and the kids after that phone call while you were pregnant. Don't call or text them, don't even tell them anything. Just file the orders and have them served to the in-laws. Tell the rest of the family why you have those orders against those 2. Then have the family post on SIL's blog to clear your name by telling what's really going on. If need be, file harassment charges against them. Record any conversation they try to have with you, either by phone or in person. If they show up to your home, call the cops and have them trespassed. And keep any texts you get from them. You may need to get the authorities involved, even from France.
You are dealing with the filthy rich here. Escaping to France and ignoring the narcissists is the better move by far.

Environmental factors and sever or prolonged trauma can cause people to become so detached that they begin to live in this self centered reality and the behavior is all but impossible to change. It requires a commitment on the part of the narcissist and an absolute crap ton of hard work on the self. Not only changing behaviors but worldview as well. Women are also much more prone to developing bpd so perhaps she may suffer from that. Idk. Just putting in my two cents.
we all know if OP went through with it (or if they paid someone to do it). SIL would treat it like a accessory, but have Mara be the one to feed it, take care of it, diaper changes, care for it, etc. All SIL would do is show it off like a brand new piece of jewlery. What needs to happen is this...MIL and FIL need to MAKE the SIL get a job and FORCE her to grow up and act her age. FIL should have blocked off her cards and things since she had a HUGE blog filled with harassment, disinformation as well as what some could call slander. The fact that MIL made a threat to OP is somethin else they need to look into as well. FIL needs to have both of them evaluated by mental health professionals, but mostly, make the daughter grow up, otherwise she won't find anyone and they will be supporting her ALL of their life and hers.
They are rich enough not to care. After all, the staff clear up after SIL.

The jist of it is the husband in this case is used to his family’s crazy & thinks it’s normal & he wants to stay in contact with his family. Mom’s & sis’ crazy rocks the boat while husband steadies the boat to compensate for the crazy.

I was thinking about the same thing! WHY would MIL want her "Pampered Princess" to undergone the stresses of being a new parent and then all the years later, until your own final breath? My own (adoptive) Mom often said we were still her kids even if we were adults with kids and lives of our own. She passed at just shy of 80 years old in 2005 and I miss her so much, every day! She got to meet her very first great-grandcguld, our grand-daughter, before she passed away. (Our eldest grand was joined by eight more, for a total of nine: six boys, three girls. Ages range from almost eighteen down to almost two!).

Yes SIL definitely needs a psychological evaluation same goes for MIL but that is not their responsibility FIL needs to acknowledge their screwed perception and get his head out his ass and do something. This sounds like what I have gone through with my dad. I have been married to my husband for 16+ years. When we retired, we moved to his home country. I am quite happy here and get along well with his family. A few months ago, my mom got sick, sounded serious. So went back to see her, thinking it might be for the last time. This is when I found out that Dad had disowned me because I moved out the country. He didn't want his money going overseas. From that point, he became just a sperm doner to me. I hadn't even given his money any thought before that, as I was doing just fine financially. I feel that I am now free of any obligation to him. As his money is more important to him than his child, his loss. If mom dies before him, I hope he sees that I am not there for him. May he realize that his loss is greater than mine.

I don't think it's a bad thing to ask, but it's definitely a much bigger ask than MIL acknowledges. And *definitely* shouldn't be a Christmas surprise! But I know plenty of people who've asked relatives to help them via surrogacy, sperm/egg donation (ofc not in an incestuous way), etc. It's not an automatically unreasonable thing to ask, if you have a good relationship with them.

Mother and sister in law both need mental health counseling. I had to deal with something similar but I fortunately wasn't married into that crazy family. I took my sons and left. They don't get to see the beautiful children that my sons have made. It's their loss but those children are a wonderful gift.

Did SIL ever hold her niece and nephews as babies? Has she babysat for one night or even 2 hrs? Having a baby isn’t an accessory, you as a person give up yourself to take care of them. No more going out, hair appointment, nail salons, vacations, or alone times. They have to be monitored, hygiene updates, medical history, doctors appointments, feeding/nap time, &all money goes to child. If you want to get your nails done but child wants to go on a field trip, guess what, it goes to child bc their happiness matters more than a mani. Her parents can’t live forever, even if they were to leave her an inheritance, she has to budget carefully or she and child will become homeless. This story is upsetting bc of the MIL putting mom ideas in her head, now she wants a baby it’s something she can’t have.
This whole drama could have been burnt to the ground, had OP and her husband publicized the ridiculous expectation of a MIL and SIL. No sane person would have ever supported their unreasonable request.
You should have got on line and tell everyone that's she can't even take care of herself none the less a baby and show everyone her and your MILtexts
