Both great 4x4s. After replacing the seat motors 2x on my car, I like manual seats. And there is a gazillion Jeeps on the road. But with Jeeps business down 40% since 2020, there are real deals to be had. I own a Grenadier, growing up with trucks, I don't even notice the steering. No worse than my sons Tacoma or Tundra. Great review.
Not sure why I’m still watching reviews after 6,000 happy miles in mine, but gotta drop a comment that this is an excellent review! Noise on road is mostly a tire thing and wind thing IMHO after driving with a bunch of different tires at different speeds on different terrain. It’s remarkably quiet when off-road, especially on sand when it’s almost peaceful. You can’t throw it around the highway at speed like a sport coupe, sedan or sport wagon, but I was genuinely surprised at how well it handles once you get used to it. I’m new to such a high vehicle (mine’s lifted) and initially it was a very odd feeling switching lanes or tight off ramps at speed but now I’m driving it at pretty much the same speed as my other cars on the road most of the time. Would I drive it like a track car, no, probably would get a ticket anyways, would I take my coupe off road, no, probably I’d break something, but at normal speeds on the road 15-75+ around these parts, it’s wonderful apart from being louder at speeds over 50mph thanks to wind (it’s a brick) and my tire choice. Everyday around town it’s pleasantly quiet. Winter will be interesting, as it’s up against AWD with Nokian’s. I’d be interested in a review of both of these next March!
Alex in the video, always a treat. I don't get the removable top, or soft top infatuation? With all the roof leaks, and the hassle of removing this and that, or just the sheer weight of roof removal, why bother? Less time to have fun IMHO. I would much prefer a hardtop, no fuss. But, to each his own. As for internal combustion vs hydrogen, its again the chicken and egg scenario. Not enough hydrogen stations. With a hard top, roof solar can help recoup range and power auxillary devices passively. Free power from the sun? Yes please.
The hand brake has the sadddle leather too. Perhaps the priciest and frivolous option, but dead sexy and will look better with patina. I couldn't not get it in mine.
Start this by saying I have never driven either of these vehicles. Have owned several Series Land Rovers in the past. Next thing is that I regularly tow a caravan (travel trailer). BIG problem with the Wrangler is that I don't think you would be able to open the lower tailgate if you had a trailer or caravan hooked on if it had a handbrake or jockey wheel. And if you can't open the lower tailgate, you can't open the glass. So with a trailer or caravan hooked up, you can't access the load area on the Jeep. With the Grenadier you can at least open the small rear door while hooked up. May not be important to a lot of people, and I realise the Jeep is not usually used for towing, but a definite deal breaker for me.
My brother has this Jeep and is is noisy AF on the highway, my Grenadier with safaris and KO2s is not noisy at all, having driven from Boston to NYC. And I won't ride ine the back seat with that crazy ceiling cross bar after bashing my head.
That was a good review and I’m trying to figure out where this was filmed in part it looks like Marin County then it looks like Occidental then it looks like Los Gatos? I like the Grenadier but for someone like myself having a vehicle like that and being able to modify it is important for example the more ground clearance a lift and bigger tires and once you do that you have to get proper caster out of the front end and proper pinion angles and that’s one thing that’s very hard to do on the grenadier, grenadier has gone to the point where they built a heavy duty frame tractor like steering etc. and built it for the off-road community I just wish they would’ve thought it out for better modifications it’s kind of in between everything if that makes sense. you can’t go wrong with a Rubicon there’s so much you can do with them but on this review the 4 x e it makes things more complicated and heavier and the electric it seems like the power would be fun, My concern would be reliability with that battery and electronics, there’s been so many recalls and fires. They say there’s been about 5% that have caught on fire and that’s something to be concerned about, the Grenadier I really like it, it’s heavy the front seems to dive a lot under breaking and they are very expensive for example if you want the winch which really doesn’t hold enough line for serious off Roaders but that winch is upwards close to $5000 that’s too much money, also a friend of mine purchased one and his windshield broke and he’s been waiting months just to get a windshield those are things to think about I really hope Grenadier does well and they get better and better. Thanks for the review👍👍
Alex I think you're forgetting you can raise the diffs with portals. 74 weld makes a great kit for the Wrangler. Sticker shock for sure but when you figure that its lift, regear, big brake kit all in one the price starts to make more sense. Still hoping they can go to castings and lower the cast a bit.
Portals of course apply to anything since you could also drop a set on a Nissan Rogue. No, I’m not kidding. LOL Nissan has a prototype Rogue with portals and tracks 😂
Counterpoint, as an owner for 6 months, it doesn't matter. Grenadier steering is fine, but, it demands the right tire pressures and alignment be "right". Some of the early ones were seemingly delivered with poor alignment and way too much tire pressure.
I complained about the steering for about a week. After a week or so I realized I didn’t even notice the steering “issue”. I’ve had it a year now after selling my Rubicon and it is head and shoulders above the Rubicon in almost all respects. The Rubicon wins in articulation but it’s really not an issue when both vehicles have front and rear lockers.
Grenadiers are quite sensitive to tyre pressures. Mine was delivered with 39PSI which would get to 42PSI when hot. That is when the wandering started. I dropped the PSI to 36 and never had a problem since. It appears the dealers set the PSI at heavy load. Some earlier ones had issues with the caster being out during shipping and not corrected by the dealer. MY24s don't have this issue.
Gave my wife my Escalade and went to the Grenadier. Everyone online was complaining about the steering which honestly took me a a few hours to get use to. Much to do about nothing in my opinion and guess what, you can add Fox stabilizer and it makes the return much better. I did that but honestly didn’t even need to.
Who at Grenadier thought putting Duelers on a vehicle with lockers was a good idea? 😅 Seriously couldn't spring for the extra $1000 for some Wildpeaks or something?
9:24 can you clarify here about the engines. You said the same engine twice. Is it different tune or power output but same 3.0L in-line 6 engine as outside the U.S?
Key difference…the Grenadier is a far more attractive vehicle in general. You can also play a fun game while driving essentially anywhere and count how many Wranglers you see on the road with rubber duckies on the dashboard. I see grandmas driving them….sorry not thanks. I’ll take the Grenadier any day. Wrangles are a dime a dozen…the Grenadier is unique.
32:40 People keep doing the 0-60 in 2WD, where the computer drastically cuts the power. Keep it in 4-Auto, and you'll get 5.5 seconds or less all day, even when the battery is at "0%"
Using BMW tech is a bizarre decision if you are making a true breed offroader, increasing price and making servicing limited and needlessly complicated.
I feel having a larger OEM supply the powertrain can be a good thing. Robust supply chain and heck BMW dealerships might even be able to help fix certain things if you’re in a pinch. I may have wanted a different OEM, like maybe GM with their 5.3, but the BMW powertrain and ZF Transmission are pretty solid and have been out a while giving me hope they’ll be largely fine for the intended customer and use.
It’s the same engine Toyota selected for the Supra. Rather than make their own, Toyota buys it from BMW. Toyota tested it extensively. The B58 is the best motor BMW has ever made.
I would not bother comparing Jeep Junk to the Grenadier. The quality is worlds apart. And as bad as a regular Jeep is quality wise, wait until you add a completely unnecessary “hybrid” system to it. 💥 🔥 💩

I'll stick with my 2020 4xe Rubicon. Love it! Zero issues.
zero issues? are you sure its a Jeep?

Land-rover, range rover, Ford bronco, Toyota, hummer, are some others
Portal axles will also greatly increase clearance
And decrease ride quality and just ruin fuel mileage
The biggest difference is the price
Is it really though?
Depends you can see wrangler with over 85k msrp 🤦♂️
Top spec wrangler rubicon $105k
For me, the wranger feels like a tin can (very capable one). The Grenadier is solid as a tank
Main difference: Wrangler=overlanding/rock crawling. Ineos=overlanding/no rock crawling.
And payload / no payload (Jeep).
I want to live in your world where cost is not a consideration lmao
Great feedback, question what is the gas octane required for each vehicle

If-only the Grenedier had better steering! It’s really a deal killer. Everything else about it is fantastic!

excellent review. wish the grenadier wasnt so $$

KO2's are optional from factory. Choose the tire that best suits your needs.
Love wranglers. But I’m 6’6”. And they are small. Knees constantly hit frame. Super narrow. Uncomfortable ride.
9:24 can you clarify here about the engines. You said the same engine twice. Is it different tune or power output but same 3.0L in-line 6 engine as outside the U.S?
Yeah was wondering if he meant to say diesel?
Yes the diesel is in Europe. Not an option here
I like the Ineos over the Jeep but would take a EV Jeep Recon when and if it makes it to the market soon.
I would take the jeep since dealers are practically begging people to buy them with some smoking deals.
i really thought you gonna have Chinese Tank suv there at 1st few seconds
Grenadier....71 miles remaining at nearly half a tank? Alex, how long were you idling the thing?!?!
The range estimate thing is wildly inaccurate

No... No it won't
The Wrangler gets a lot of hate but I really like it.
You should, it’s awesome.
It’s garbage
I especially love the 392 version

What does “yank” stand for?
Yankee
Yank is dF/dt, the change in force over time. I'm sure that's what Alex is referring to.
@@starvin-marvin-the-martian it’s playing off the term “Yank Tank” which Europe and other countries use to call big American SUVs.
