Crusty as they may have been, they’re leaps and bounds more robust and developed than any game you’d see released as-is nowadays. But that point aside, they were truly revolutionary. The first forays into their respective 3D space. And I honestly think they’re among the best of their series. Mario 64 nails the HUB and wonder of the castle, its paintings and their worlds. And the snadbox-esque nature of the stars that isn’t as big and loose as Odyssey. But also not as strict as Sunshine. Also Mario’s moveset in 64 is among my favorites. Sonic Adventure was imo way ahead of anything at the time. And I don’t think a single 3D Sonic game after really nails the controls as well for Sonic and friends. The music is really diverse, and the Adventure fields are such a nice way to play around with character moves and understanding how to execute with the controls. In both cases, I can definitely see that a lot of care went into crafting the experience. From how the character should control, to the world they should interact with. It just feels so natural.
Is it weird that I think sonic was extremely lucky that X-treme never came. Cause looking at the gameplay I don't think it would be looked foundly at the time when it's direct competitors mario 64 and crash bandicoot were doing real 3D with real polygon art.
@@Sharpteeth32 like bro, THE SPIN JUMP! i think what bro ham has an actual problem with are the itty bitty little platforms in the game, it makes mario seem twitchy and fucked up, but on proper ground hes pretty awesome
Imo, Adventure holds up better than 64, but 64 is still more important for being so revolutionary and working with worse hardware. Adventure is still a landmark title; coming out the same year as OOT while nailing a formula Sega still has trouble with to this is nothing short of amazing. But I do think coming out three years after 64 and on better hardware gives it an inherent edge that makes 64 more impressive
Here is the thing. Sonic Adventure's problems are due to it being rushed. Even in 1999 it was painfully obvious how little time Sega spent making Sonic Adventure. Sega games in general seem like great ideas the company just decided to rush. Sonic R could of been better than Mario Kart if Sega didnt do their typical 8 months of development rubbish
@@Zeldafan-zy1pb “Zelda fan” might be a little biased about that lmao. Sonic’s speed is another factor that makes his jump to 3D so impressive. If the game didn’t have things like Big or Amy, I don’t think there’s really any real distinction in quality between this or BK and OoT

The problem with comparing Sonic Adventure to Mario 64 is that Sonic Adventure came out when *superior* 3D games were already out on N64. In September 1999, Zelda Ocarina was out for over a year and Sonic Adventure is laughable compared to that game. *Sega chose to rush Sonic Adventure and every Sonic game*
Kinda tired of people shitting on the DX port Specifically the original DX port on the Gamecube If you don't like the graphics or visuals or whatever, that's fine but in terms of bugs and glitches it doesn't actually introduce any more than the original Dreamcast release already had Every subsequent re-release of DX after the Gamecube port IS actual ass I won't deny that, but the original DX port is nearly 1 to 1 with it's original Dreamcast release in terms of actual quality
To the creator of this video. Are you aware that Zelda Ocarina of Time came out in 1998? When Sonic Adventure came out it was sold worse, and it was clearly inferior to existing 3D games
in gameplay, sonic can just beat the shit out of mario and spam homing attacks and light speed attacks at mario and mario will not run fast enough to gain HP back.
There is no way in hell Sonic Adventure made any dent in a world where Zelda Ocarina of Time and Banjo Kazooie sold millions before people even knew Sonic Adventure existed.
*In 1998, Zelda Ocarina of Time and Banjo Kazooie was already better programmed and designed than Sonic Adventure!* Dreamcast made games that gave Playstation/Nintendo fans no reason to turn over. And in September 1999 when Sonic Adventure hit the states, most gamers were eagerly anticipating Playstation 2
Mario 64 was revolutionary when it came out. Sonic Adventure was inferior to many N64 games when it came out. Almost every Sega game plays like it was rushed. *Even today*
If Sega actually worked on Sonic Adventure until 1999 full budget, it might of been good. Instead, Sonic Team switched to Dreamcast hardware in March 1998 and scrapped almost everything they did on Saturn. Basically starting from scratch. In the end, Sega was selling a big 3D Sonic game made in 10 months. Rushed. Not because its,1998/1999. Because Sega rushed Sonic Adventure like every other Sonic game. Stick with N64 or wait for Playstation 2 was what gamers did. And Sega kept putting more rushed games on Dreamcast
*Sonic Adventure, unlike Mario 64 is just a rushed Sega game.* Most "problems" with Sonic Adventure are due to Sega spending just 10 months on Dreamcast hardware. Its a big difference. Sega also spent just a few months on Sonic R, 3D Blast, while Nintendo generally spent multiple years on even 2D Mario games
Mario 64 didnt need to beat Sonic Adventure. Zelda Ocarina of Time and Banjo Kazooie did a year before Sonic Adventure came out. In September 1999, we were used to getting platformers with decent controls. Sonic Adventure was just another rushed Sonic game. There is NO EXCUSE for Sonic Adventure's mediocre state so late in 1999 when Nintendo had been getting so many good 3D games. And thats the problem with Sega Dreamcast. Other than graphics, the general public considered these games unimpressive. And yet Playstation 2 amazed gamers before it even released
