Mario Party 9 and later games have a similar dev team to the old Mario Party games. That's because the modern NDcube was formed by Hudson Soft staff. The reason why NDcube even made Wii Party in the first place is because they are effectively the original developers of MP... I bring this up mostly because it's common to bring up NDcube being the "new" developer of the series when it's not exactly accurate or relevant. Ironically, I believe that if MP9 was developed by a truly new dev team, they would probably ironically want to keep the gameplay similar to the classic games with respect to the OG devs. With NDcube though, they are the original devs and they wanted to shake things up, I guess because they felt that they had been making overly similar games

I loved Mario Party 9. I hated 10 and didn't care for Island Tour, Star Rush and Top 100. 9 tried, but 10 doesn't give you a reason at all to party and Bowser Party is the most unfair thing to exist.
I could at least gve points to 9 for trying something new for the franchise but 10 I agree- it's a rehash of 9 with no redeeming qualities and removes any ounce of the small charm 9 had.
Hot take: I actually like Mario Party 9. The minigames being less frequent, the car and the linear boards makes games go by much faster. But yeah 10 sucks.
The captain events slow things down and aren't interesting, otherwise i mean i get not taking an hour for 10 turn classic mario party but still it is worth it for a worse formula of the older games, especially since minigames are still an important part of mario party. DS and the itch io mario party fangame "party project" show you can make a good classic mario party with decent pacing (granted in party project it's a side effect of being in itch io with simplified graphics and no event cutscenes)
