Just want to say, thank you Henry for all your videos, tips, tutorials etc. I have learned so much from you over the last year or two and have become a much more confident painter. Keep up the amazing work
This video was perfectly timed for me. Changed my templars from the standard blueish tone/edge highlights to a more brown/grey and am currently in the process. Wonderful video, Henry. Thank you!
Always the best looking model paint jobs. Love the tip using glad wear to protect the model while spraying swords etc. I will be using that one for sure. Cheers
I’ve been stuck on my own Templars project for a long time now and finding your channel and these videos in particular have given me the inspiration and insight I needed to get back into the swing of things. Thank you!
You have inspired me to start up Black Templars. Thank you/curse you. These are great though, really love the way the oil wash changes the entire tone in one step.
Hi Henry, thank you so much for continuing this series here on TH-cam! You might have noticed it already, but multiple times in this video your voice lowered in volume or cut out for a short moment like at 10:15 for example. Don't remember hearing something like that before in one of your video's. Maybe a noise gate or microphone sensitivity issue? I am guessing because it happens more often at the end of sentences and when you lower your voice more.
All of your guys videos are such a treat to watch, have a squad of crusaders laying around that I’ll give this a try on and even use oils for the first time perhaps 😆. Some day, love the mix of speed but being intentional with the brush! Thanks again!
I often watch these tutorials when I'm (supposed to be) working and so sometimes I get distracted. When I saw 'Hobgrot hide' I mis-read it from the corner of my eye as 'Hobbit Hide' and I was all like "Henry! What have you done?!?". Champion work, though. Another fine video :)
This is such a great black recipe! Thanks for the detail. One thing I've struggled with is Black looking great under my painting light but the nuances being lost when brought to a table at a game store. In future videos it'd be interesting to hear how these translate and any changes you'd want to make after seeing it under more standard lights! Thanks
thanks Will. I keep checking these under normal lights for exactly that reason. I think the edge highlights/chipping and the colours around the black are what has the impact. The black sort of helps them stand out more.
These look lovely. I like the hobgrot for yellow too. The more I watch and rewatch Cult vids I think I need US Olive drab in my live. Been trying to get it with mixing GW paints.
Sorry to hijack this on an unrelated video, but I've been really struggling I think when it comes to oil washing, and I think my issues are due to the ratios of the Oil to Thinner. I've found it either runs too much and leaves no colour in the recesses, or I get this almost chunky black deposit behind that sure, comes off easily enough, but doesn't give nearly the tidy highlights everyone else seems to achieve with oil washing. I've tried over Gloss and Satin Varnishes, I've tried Sansodor and the spirits mentioned in the LI Solar Auxillia videos. Really unsure where it's going wrong. Love the work as always.
I love this recipe , I've been searching for weeks what to do, and this is it! One thing, I personally don't use oils. What non oil wash recipe would you recommend to achieve a similar effect?
Hey Henry love your tutorials! They really gave me a lot of confidence getting back into the hobby. Do you have any recommendations for wet palettes? I’ve been looking for one for a while
Love the scheme! Just a quick one… On the shoulders after the Rakarth, what’s the pinky looking paint used over them? Couldn’t catch the name or see it in the paint list! Thanks in advance, keep up the great paint work! 🫡

After the all the airbrushing for the black armor, what paint would you recommend for touch ups/fixing mistakes? As a beginner, I’m always nervous air brushing highlights because I feel I’ll mess it up later along the process, and I won’t be able to go back and neatly fix my mistakes.
Hi Henry, thank you for this incredible video very instructive. I have been trying to replicate the black scheme, but I find it much brighter than your video. Expecially the VMC Black, it's so matte it almost make no contrast with the Corvus Black. Maybe I have been too light with the Corvus?
@@samuelebeltrami7760 hi Samuel, that's frustrating. Is it a new Vallejo? The colour may have changed from the one I'm using. It is an easy fix though. Either find a darker black, or mix in some black ink/contrast paint to your Vallejo and use that. I would keep the corvus as highlight.
@cultofpaint yes it's the new Vallejo black, still the same code of the old but don't know if it' different. I will follow your advice of darkening it :) thank you
Awesome stuff! If you were to do a colder wash as opposed to the warm/borwns would you say blues would help out better with paints such as GW's Dark Reaper/Thunderhawk Blue?
Loving these. Really inspiring me to tackle some backlogged marines I have sitting in the cabinet. One thing I've still not been able to find is that foil you used to make rivets. Hoping you could maybe pin a link to it?
The finished product is absolutely fantastic. Great work, real pleasure watching the process finalise to this point. Quick question....you've primed it black, and then immediately gone onto the airbrush highlighting effects correct? No additional base layer of black across the whole armour? And if thats the case, can I ask what primer youve used? Thanks so much 👍.
@@cultofpaint thank you so much I actually really love the Matt finish of that, far more than the gw chaos black. Will be giving that a go, thanks again 👍
Everytime I try to do the pigment wash (using Vallejo Pigments and Vallejo Airbrush Thinner) it reactivates/stipes the acrylic layers underneath and makes a giant mess. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Is a varnish step in between necessary?
I do this with my raptors. I just use the hobby knife, blade and back side, as well as the army painter file. Just very carefully working it down and away.
hi, is it rakarth mixed with something else as it looks very white on the shoulders whereas in person rakarth seems a lot more brown? thanks or does the airbrush/ thinner affect it or just looks whiter due to the camera? thanks

Do you tend to varnish after using the citadel browns? Your overall surface finish looks very matt, and my experience with thondia brown is that it verges on high gloss.
Hey, Henry. Were these models varnished at any point? I noticed the decals were put on, then everything was washed AFTER the model was already complete. Did you just skip varnishing these models with matte or anything or was it just not mentioned? Thanks!
Nicely done on the squad, Henry! Just out of curiosity what exactly didn’t you like on the Neophytes? It’s been a while since I had them in hand but aren’t they are basically more or less the same body-wise?
The heads weren't for me, and the bodies had these tabard things between the legs that I didn't overly care for. I may still use some for the second squad to be fair.
I have fallen so in love with this channel recently. The style you do is such a beautiful mix of efficient techniques that can be learned and replicated with some practice and it isn't clickbait SPEED PAINT or overly indulgent display piece painting. Nothing wrong with either of those but your style feels achievable without compromising on time or quality. I'm in love with the rendering you do with oil paints. Do you not like that technique with black armor or did you just want to go for a different approach on this army? I'd be interested to see what some dark greys/blue-greys/browns could do.
I like the models, but when these guys get into close combat it feels like assembling Ikea furniture going through all the different rolls you have to make
I would love to see a 'everything I've painted so far ' shot 🙏🏻
In my opinion, these are easily the most accurate and well painted Black Templars. Very well done, incredible work as always!
