I'll say, I do kind of wish it took more risks with this type of premise. As the 2nd half was far too cliche. Yeah, Laura's ghost forces each of them to kill themselves or does the deed herself as revenge. But how about something more twisted, which I had a feeling that the movie was going for: Laura’s ghost pulls up something from all of these people, probably even from Blair, so that she can post it online. Posting something that will ruin each of their reputations forever, and they’ll each become outcasts, just like they did to her. The climax can see Blaire, Mitch, Jess, Ken, and Adam screaming that they’ll do anything, apologizing for all the rumors, bullying, and harassment they caused Laura. It is them who self harm themselves, instead of being controlled to do so, either by cutting off their own tongues or hands/fingers (So that they would never type anything online again.) as a form of penance. Laura’s ghost can either decide whether to press send or not. Basically it similar to Oldboy where a main character's rumor in high school caused someone to kill themselves, leading to someone getting revenge on him with him taking a similar matter. Heck, that movie even portrays the main protagonist as not a swell person either.
Fun fact: this movie was shot in one house with all the actors in different rooms. They read through the script several times using the best takes and hiding the cuts with artificial lag in the Skype call. Personally this is one of my favorite horror movies but the sequel is better in my opinion!
1. The drunk excuse IS no excuse 2. These people deserved every moment of this. Laura may have been a bully, but what they did was appalling and that makes them an accessory to her suicide.
@@nicktechnubyte1184She apologised for “being mean” in that text with Val, (but that sounds like something minor tbh) other than that there is nothing else to say she ever was a bully, no!? 🤷♂️

Mellow talking about how Val died... And he didn't notice the opened bottle of bleach next to her I love this movie. The actors did so well playing cringey teenagers, the way they used the folly of technology to hide the cuts. Very underrated horror movie
This was all because of Blaire. If she came clean and admitted that she was wrong, everyone would have lived. Laura was a messy spirit, but i loved it. I would be fighting Blaire, i dont care
Host is significantly better. Well acted, well written, better scares, a much better film overall. I remember me and my friends laughing and riffing on Unfriended so hard when we watched it. It wasn't exactly scary to us.
This movie freaked me out. It's low-key enough but also terrifying. It's a neat and 'low budget' style of filming, and using the social media aspect + computer screen platform really made you feel like you were a part of the 'friend group'
It kinda makes the movie even more scary in my opinion. At least in other horror films you know what's going on. You know exactly where they are and what's going to happen. But in this movie you don't know what's going to happen, you don't know who's causing this, and you don't know where they are (other than there houses).
So the way Val died is drinking bleach. You see the open bleach canister next to her, and the mirror behind her is shattered, so there may have been some kind of thrashing around /lashing out as she got possessed. Also some of the comments online about this movie are insane lol someone said "I'm glad adam got shot, at least his death was quick :(" like it wasn't unveiled he roofied a girl
This is a grade A horror film as is Unfriended: Dark Web. So many people decided to hate both of them before they even came out. I love horror films that act as commentaries on real world social issues, and this movie does a great job of just talking about stuff like online harassment. I would highly recommend the second one.
The actor that portrayed Mitch is actor Moses Storm. He's also a conceptual artist and a stand up comedian. He's got a stand-up special on Max and it's very funny!

If you want a film like the sequel, but a bit more dark and more like found footage, there is this movie called "The Den." Same concept, but a bit different.
This is a genuinely underrated film. I saw this at the movies back in the day & needless to say the entire cinema gasped and screamed in unison at all the scares. I’ll be honest & admit that it did put me off social media & didn’t log into my accounts for at least 3 weeks, as lame as that sounds. That’s testament to how great this film really was.
No, Mitch didn't post the video, it was Blaire. She lied to Laura, hoping she would save herself by selling Mitch out. She's the one who recorded the video, so it's just more likley that she did it.
26:30....Hi Adrianna, there was also some foreshadowing in the beginning of the movie before Blaire started talking to Mitch. Her mailbox was open which had leaked messages between her and Adam ultimately revealing their affair.
I remember watching this movie a couple of years back. and yeah a lot of people disliked this movie. but i thought it was pretty good and a novel concept. especially since conference calls like that from skype was pretty popular back then.
They didnt really bully Laura. Blair and Laura stopped being friends when highschool started because Blair became popular and Laura became a bully. After that they would fight a lot until Blair made the video.
