    Purely by chance, this was the third bottle of scotch I purchased on my young whiskey journey. When I first sipped it I thought "Oh. This is it. This is my perfect scotch.' and from that point I knew my bank account would be in trouble XD

    What a really great review of a truly great whisky. In my opinion it falls into the very special catagory of whisky. Anyone who has never tasted this will be hunting for it after watching your review.

    The 12 is a phenomenal whiskey in itself. I will take it any day over much more expensive Scotch whiskeys. For $50 it is one of the best bang for your buck whiskey and I do consider it to be top shelf. As for the 18, I need to buy a bottle of this sometime this year!

      I agree with you that the 12 is VERY good value for money, especially when given enough time in the glass. I find a little more than just the obligatory 12 minutes helps, I don’t know what your take is on that? I have not tasted the 18, but Ralfy gives it 82 and considers it too expensive for what it is - but hey, personal taste and all … I am kinda curious about it myself …

    I agree. The price is what makes it a hard buy. Previously in my area pre pandemic and tariffs it was $108. Now that same bottle that sat on the shelf years ago is $144. I'm not paying more for the exact same bottle.

    Several years ago I bought the Talisker 18 and the Bunnahabhain 18 and really enjoyed both. When they were gone I went back to the Talisker 10 and the Bunnahabhain 12 and thought "Bloody Hell, these aren't half bad." Not as good as their elder brethren but not far off. Since then, the Talisker 10 has become more expensive and the 18 is still about the same price and good value. The opposite is true with the Bunna 12 and 18. The 12 is still great value but the 18 is gradually creeping away. I've been thinking of getting a bottle of it and the Talisker recently. I have a feeling I'll feel the same as I did 5 years ago but I'm curious to see if my palate has evolved or changed and if I appreciate the extra maturity more than I used to do. Cheers Erik. WT

    I've been looking for this bottle for over a year now... ended up finding it in NYC while I was visiting & the Spirit store had 2 bottles... I bought them both 😄😄😄
    They were $125 ... I didn't mind cause it's definitely a specialty bottle... everyone doesn't have it to sell.
    Rather than pay $150 to get it shipped from overseas, I just bought them both 🥃

    I found this locally for 185 CAN. Might go and get it.
    Edit: got it for Father’s Day- absolutely beautiful smooth complex oaky dram.

    Totally agree with your thoughts on the 18yo, it's simply spectacular.
    Do you have more bunna reviews coming up?

    I would love to try this one. You are right is the quality difference between 12 and 18 worth the price discrepancy.. Very subjective especially when Bunna 12 can be on offer for £30. The target customer is a die hard fan who will buy it anyways. On the other hand £107 here is not the worst price for 18yo we've all seen much higher prices for worse quality in the same age range

    It really is delicious. I would love it if Bunnahabhain kept one of their peated bottles as a core range offering (Moine, Toiteach a dha, and the like) with some added age on them like the standard 18.

      If you like Peat - Ardbeg 10. If you like sherry casks with oceanic influence but NO peat - Bunahabhain 12.

    Lagavulin 16 has been my scotch wife for 30 years. Simply exquisite. Bunna 18 is my scotch mistress. She is expensive, tasty and a thrill whenever I spend time with her.

    One amount of money, would you go for Bunnahabhain 18 $165 , or Ancnoc 24 $200 ?. Sometime age doesn't matter. Decision...
    Thanks.

    i hear a lot of people say the old bottling/label was far better with older stock 21+ years in the vatting. so if you can find any on the secondary market its worth going for (up to a $ point). i love love love bunna and they have earned their place as probably my favourite islay distillery but i have a horrible feeling the cat is out of the bag and are well on their way from a drinkers whisky to becoming a collectors whisky. the 18 used to be around 80 pounds in the uk but now finding it for below a 100 is near impossible..

      I found 3 bottles of the old black box Bunna 18 for $118/each and grabbed them all when I really enjoyed my first bottle. I wonder if I should go see if I can get more or try the new bottling.

    • @greigmartin4339
      @greigmartin4339 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Oooooo-xi2mx if you see any more of the old version buy it on sight. it has vanished now in the uk. i could have found it maybe a year ago without too much hunting but now i would have to pay double at auction. i think its the new version only from now on- hopefully it improves.

    I found that these "newer" botlles didnt get close to the old bottling. The old 25 for example was delicious.. but the new one is more expensive and taste like a waterd down version.

    The price and value component is a bridge too far for me. I love the distiller but the value and quality of the 12 and the 12 Cask Strength will have to satisfy me for now. Love the review.

    I bought bunna 12 recently and it burns more than I could imagine, what about the 18, is it smooth?

    • @phillyscorpio3804
      @phillyscorpio3804 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      At 46% ABV I would definitely think its gonna have some heat to it... I would try & develop your palate a little before diving into the 18. But if you come across a bottle...buy it... & just hold on to it. Until your palate develops

      Add water until it doesn't. Scotch is supposed to be able to take a bit of water, half a teaspoon at a time.

    Is there any alcohol bite in it? Does it burn a little?

    • @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies
      @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Whether or not you experience any bite can depend on the sensitivity of your palate and previous experience. If you drink whisky as often as I do you become desensitized to the "bite" of alcohol unless it is an extremely high proof. So, for me this does not have any bite.
