i bought uigeadail a day ago after watching your previous reviews. i decided to try transition myself to islay and good lord i was actually impressed! i think im in love with Ardbeg already.
Even better - it's not committee, it's part of the core lineup! They plan on doing a release of a 19 y/o every year from here on out. Really looking forward to seeing how it compares, year over year. All hail Ardbeg.
@Whiskey Vault the ardbeg 19 traigh bhan is not a committee release its a yearly release thats part of the core range every year the release will be slightly different so each batch will have a unique code that can be used to get more info on the release
So I have been a fan for awhile now, consider myself part of the tribe (although I haven't signed up yet) I have found many new whiskeys now that I have you guys. I live in Northern Ontario, Canada and my whiskey selection isn't always the best, but once in awhile something cool comes to us. I went in to our liquor store today to add a bottle to my collection, today was a day to replace something I'm fond of. I had planned to buy wild turkey 101 or proper twelve as replacement to some emptied friends(no I don't have a problem, I had these for many months) as I headed through the store I turned a corner and my heart stopped, in disbelief I saw something I (because of you) have wanted to try for a long time, Monkey Shoulder, and on sale for that matter. So my planned purchase turned to an impulse buy and I took the monkey home, and wow this is now at the top of my list. Most of the time if I have a drink in the evening it's 1 maybe 2 and not full ounces but tonight after breaking the seal I am on my fourth drink of the evening (I'm off tomorrow) and all have to say is thank you for introducing me and anyone else to Monkey Shoulder. May all your ups and downs be under the covers! Cheers! Joe
Finally the Traigh Bhan review by the most magnificent bastards! :) Daniel, every now and then, I still go back to the video you did way back in 2016 with Tom Fischer: Scotch vs. Bourbon. [Absolutely fell in love with the Dalmore Cigar Malt and Angel's Envy - my journey starter for bourbon.] You were a Scotch guy then - Can you say now that you're more of a Bourbon fan? Cheers to you and Rex for doing the whisk(e)y gods' work!
I'm a huge Ardbeg fan and 100 agree with your take on the subtlety of this one. That said, it's been a nice way to bring some Highland/Speyside friends to Islay without having to endure their facial distortions.
Hi guys. Tried this yesterday at Relic Brewing in Connecticut not realizing it was a special release. Tried mine neet, but after some other whisk(e)ys so I thought my palate was off a little. Now hearing you say it was more muted for you too I feel like my thoughts on it are inline. I didn't really like it.
It would be awesome if you could do some videos about aging in small barrels 1L/2L for us. I’m thinking of aging some Ardbeg 10 in a 2L barrel that i’ve made some bourbon in. Thinking of adding sherry or brandy in it a few days before i pour the Ardbeg in. Might even throw a few coffee beans or vanilla bean. Can’t find much online for home barrel ideas. Would be cool to see you guys with an assortment of 1L barrels testing out different experiments.
Just a little jealous here.. 😍 offtopic: talking about smoke i really like all of the smokey flavours but i love the campfire smoke (unlike the ardbeg 19). Do you have some spreadsheat (or tips) what whisky has what sort of smoke, campfire in particular?
High West Campfire! I got some last week. I’m a Bourbon guy and wanted some smoke and felt this would be a safe bet. It is Bourbon, Rye, and Islay Scotch blended. Literally tastes like liquid campfire
Since I retired, I've been watching you guys at lunch-time ad began a habit of having a whiskey with lunch while I watch the Whiskey Vault. I missed it today, because I was busy with a welding project, and as the gun club is coming over in another hour, I'll have to put the whiskey off for another couple of hours. Question: Every time I break into the Monkey Shoulder, I get apricot on the nose and palate. Is that something that y'all deine differently?
Humm.. ironically, I got my bottle from Ardbeg Australia, shipped it to my sister and received it last week when we met in Japan only to bring it back to the UK. Truly an international bottle.
If I may.... (formality because I'm just going to) I kinda miss the shenanigans of the old days. You guys getting tame in you more popular days? Just curious.
As an Ileach which is someone who is a islay local there is about 3000 people who live on Islay and 9 Distillery’s and 1 Brewery which is the best on Islay defo not one of the Brewers there. And the Whisky Tribe needs to come to Islay on Feis Ile which is a whisky and music festival.
💀I really love the Ardbeg 19 Years Old Traigh Bhan, I find it to be a more elegant Ardbeg with a lot of finesse. It is a wee bit pricy but I have a pathological obsession with Ardbeg so I'll buy just about anything from the distillery.💀
Erik Wait Im glad you enjoyed it! I didnt dislike it but I really expect more from a bottle with such a high $$. I mean I dont expect it to pull my hair and spank my ass, but I do expect to take a sip and think “Ooh! Interesting!”. I dint get that with this bottle. Like someone else said, uigeadail for a lower price is more engaging, interesting, and most of all available. Its easier to say with a heavy buzz on too!! 😂😂
Great release wish I could find it. It would have been interesting to me how it compared to An Oa or other releases. The Ten is good, but the An Oa is smokey sweetness!
Hello gents, I've recently been conscripted to DJ at a friend's wedding, and agreed before being notified that there was no monetary budget for the job. They did, however, offer to buy me a bottle of whiskey of my choosing, and given the circumstances I plan to be fairly unconcerned with the price. What would be some recommendations between $80-$130? For reference, my favorite scotch so far is Old Pulteney 12, and for the money I spend a lot of time hanging out with Monkey Shoulder and Naked Grouse. However, I'm also a big fan of Talisker 10 and Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14.
Brian King hmm maybe a Talisker Distiller’s Edition. I reckon you’d also love Bruichladdich Classic Laddie. Oooooor a nice Caol Ila Distiller’s Edition. Loved that one. Let me know how you go!
I have a question for the MBs. All these distillieries out there in your great country and not allowed to ship their own product, but a customer can drive in and buy stuff to take away himself. Suppose I do that, is it easy for me to ship it to another country where I live? Can I just take a few crates of whiskey to FedEx and say, Send it to my address in England or Germany or France or Canada or wherever?
I tried this back to back with Oogie, 10, Drum and Corry at an Ardbeg organised tasting when this was first released. It was my least favourite for sure. Really felt like it had lost a huge amount of the usual Ardbeg character when compared to the rest. I didn't think it was a bad whisky, but I won't be going out of my way to try it again.
So what they do is put fox urine in a path that the hounds have to follow to a caged fox (the fox has a very nice life and just has to sit in this cage, usually they're like a pet fox) The fox is 100% safe, just it's a cage, it doesn't get harmed.
Traigh Bhan is not a commitee release. It's retail and part of the core range (at least for now) ... I did not like it that much. Not worth the price. I'll stick to Oogie and occasional Supernova
I had Uigeadail just before trying this and thought my palate was off from it. Hahahaa! nope! (Well ok full disclosure I had Uigeadail, a few Compass Box, and some Ledaig, which was reallllly good, first.)
Sorry, just subscribed recently and love the channel. So if this has been mentioned I apologize, but when they do a close up on Daniel while he's speaking, I can't get over how he is the WWW.YZZERDD from Aqua Teen Hunger Force season 1, "Interfection". Anyone else get this?

Thank you Rogue Nation for introducing me it's been years of entertainment here at the whiskey vault
I think it is 'heroic' for those people who can afford it, to donate such bottles to this channel, thank you!

It wasn't a committee release guys. Just released to retail.

Doesn’t matter if you’re right... as long as you sound confident. Bit of an ongoing theme with the Hobbit, sadly.
how do they get this wrong, as the first presented "fact" about the whisky? Come on now...these guys credibility is on thin ice as it is...
@@johnbarry7874 not only not a CR, not even limited edition. new core range release, just released less frequently

Ardbeg is my favorite Islay malt. The smoke and brine is very dense, Port Charlotte is my second favorite for a similar reason.
I grew up in Aiken, SC! The hunts are super cool! Oh and Ardbeg makes my soul happy!
Ardbeg Days are the BEST!
I just pick this 19 year up!! Can't wait!!!!
Hey, I’m from South Carolina! Nice shout out!!!

Thanks for the review.
Awesome to hear Daniel talk about Aiken, we’re actually living here and our Beagle lost his mind seeing horses at Hitchcock Woods.
It's not a committee release. It's an annual release batch whisky.
Just call it what it is guys

That 12 grain sounds exciting, I may have to find a way down there when it's ready for sale.

Aiken is a main hub for the sport of Polo
How does a 19 year old come out so lightly colored?
natural coloring instead of artificial. Also, mostly ex-bourbon barrels. Plenty of 30 yr old scotch that's natural color isnt much darker than this.
I got the same cigar tobacco hit from Corryvrekan
