    Now, i am certain that this man was a genius. Also, i have watched an another interview of him. A real artist.

    Is anyone else smiling like an idiot during this? Imagine this kind of conversation with a singer today! :)

      Very good point. I come to this man for inspiration. Nobody today could supply that. Least of all a cardboard cut-out singer of today.

    What an absolutely amazing man. His philosophy, his insight - fantastic. I wish he were alive today, just so he could convince me - no doubt he'd be successful - that life IS worth living. A truly great man. The World is so much poorer for his loss.
    RIP, Jacques.

    That's very nice !
    I must admit he smoked quite a lot, 5 packs a day, or so and he was really nervous, before every performance, he had to vomit. He lived fast, being on tour for 11 years, putting so much energy in singing. There is nothing to change on that kind of man, thank God he has lived and wrote his songs.

      I would hope after 11 years, he would at least be used to performing enough so that he wouldn't have to vomit every time he was about to go on stage. That sounds awful.

    A true genius who put his heart and soul into his performances. This wasn't an act, this is real life. Adieu, Jacques !

    Dit vind ik een belangrijk interview, dat ik zelfs heb willen vertalen in het Nederlands. Een groot kunstenaar, met in dit interview de zeer vermakelijke vraagstelling: Why didn't anybody like your songs?

    @otunca Would you enjoy the same Brel id he did not smoke ? If he did give a F... what life was worth if not enjoyed as he pleased ? He lived entirely, he died from all the things he lived for ... (as we all do I guess)

      Apparently, he was diagnosed with a form of leukaemia in the late 1940s; even before he'd made any recordings. He was able to manage this with various medications throughout his life but his card was marked, smoking or no smoking, very early on.

    What a pity he smoked so much. He managed to kill himself. But what a beautiful man...

      @@blackmore4 I read a lot about Jacque Brel, and I know he had lung cancer (he died because that cancer), but no biography talks about leukaemia. Smoking is so bad for health.

    • @blackmore4
      @blackmore4 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ancamg It certainly is (bad for your health) and more than possible to bring on lung cancer from smoking the amount that Brel did. However, as I said, his chances of cancer were doubled by the leukaemia he'd suffered since youth. Here's an article with an interview with him, where he confirms this....

      @@blackmore4 I read the article, I am happy I speak French. It was the first time they talk about leukaemia. They only say that the number of white blood cell was high. Considering the whole picture, it must have been chronic leukaemia (either lymphocytic (LLC) or myeloid CML). Acute leukaemia would have been quickly deadly at that time. I wonder why other biographies don't talk about that.
