I found this song, this exact same video when I was 16 years old (not even sure how, I just stumble onto this vid by accident) and even though I didn't understood the lyrics back then, I was amaze by how much emotion Jacques Brel pour into this song. So I decide to look for more songs of Jacques and I found "La Chanson Des Vieux Amants" and when I looked for both lyrics I realized they were heartbreaking, unforgettable and quite unique, and I thought "I hope I never feel this way in the future". Three years later I met the love of my life, with whom I've been in an Off and On relationship for so many years... I'll be 28 in a few weeks, and after all these years with her, I can said with some certainty, that I understand the true meaning of these songs, and it hurts. Cecy, if you ever read this, even though that we only hurt each other, I just wanted you to know, that I wish you happiness in your life. You'll always be the love of my life, and the reason why Jacques Brel means the world to me.
I'm a few months away of being 30 and I still comeback to this video every so often, with the exact same feeling described before. She has moved on and will probably be married with someone else within a year or so... And I know that I have to move on as well, but I'd love to create a cover for this song, not to send a message or anything else, just as a landmark of something, sorry, someone important in my life. And whoever is reading this, I wish you nothing but the best in your life, and hopefully you find a love that'll be healthy and nurture you into the best version of yourself.
Scott Walker sings this beautifully but having heard this, the original I am blown away...............and I do not understand the French language................but you don't need to, do you? This to me is one of the most profound songs I have heard and it is quite painful to listen to as I am always on the verge of breaking down in tears when I hear it.................................
The moment when you accually watch someone die inside. So painful and yet so beutiful to listen to, and to watch. A master piece in so many ways. He hardly keept it together and was on the edge of breaking down more than once. Still pulled it through and made it the performance of all times.
Talking to his side chick, the guy was married with 3 kids and a wife. Then the mistress got tired of empty promises of divorce, etc. Then the guy wrote that song

very good translation. A few mistakes if I may? 1. "coming from my country " The real translation is "coming from countries". Also : 2. Je t'inventerai = I will invent for you. 3. Des mots insensés : Words that make no sense. 4. Rejaillir le feu = fire reborn. 5. Qu'on croyait trop vieux / that we thought was too old. 6. Il est paraît-il / There is, it seems. 7. Pour qu'un ciel flamboie / For a sky to get ablaze. 8. The red and the black needs to marry. Very sad beautiful difficult song to translate! But bravo!
My dad recently passed away. He introduced me to Brel and although my age group shouldn't find this particularly interesting, I was captured from the first moment I heard this man's voice. This song was one of, if not the favourite song of my father and hearing it reminds me of him. But moreso, seeing Brel's expressions in this video along with the memories and nostalgia, makes me cry every time. It brings out so much.
Why wouldn’t your “age group” find this interesting? Music transcends generations. Hence the reason why even the youngest children are transfixed by Bethoven, Bach, Wagner etc. never allow yourself to be limited by the events and music exclusive to your era.
I suppose that's true! I just don't know many people who would enjoy listening to this music now or even know who he is. I would love to be wrong though :)@@Olyphantman

This song and Lara Fabian's Je Suis Malade hit you straight in the heart, and your soul. You don't need to speak the language to feel the emotions these singers project and make you feel. No matter how many times, I have listened to both, I always find myself sobbing. Beautiful singers and songs.
?). Mas isso fez dele u, grande artista.
Outstanding Brel, timeless recording! Heard Joaquin Phoenix' amazing performance of this song in Joker Folie a Deux - made me come back to the original. The only 2 versions of this song I can say that I like.
I don't understand a word, though many have sung it - Shirley Bassey, Dusty Springfield etc., he is the only that presents it in a way that you can almost taste his despair - stunningly beautiful especially these days when we have had such life changes - music somehow pulls me through each day. Lover of the 60's music as that was my era. Thank you for the wonderful talented performers we had.
I look at his face, his eyes, his infatuation, his sorrow, his devotion, his desperation, for a woman, for love, for one moment, I think the French is the most civilized people, people like that live for love, not hate, not destruction, well it's a transient feeling. what's not transient is this is my fav french song, by far.
Jacques said in his interview that he don't know what is an artist and talent .. Art and talent don't exist .. he said that the main purpose of life is making your dreams to become true and is what he worked hard for .. The talent is just working as hard as you can to make your dream become true .. Such an inspiring man .. Your song , your voice , your face and emotions really bring me to a different dimension ..Thank you Jacques and Rest in peace ..
What a master of song. His lyrics, his music, the orchestra, and his delivery were all so perfect. This is a song about a coward for love. He did not have the courage to leave a broken love. Just look at Brel's face. He captured the man's agony like an actor. Brel paints with words. He is really a painter.

Paroles: Ne me quitte pas
Il faut oublier
Tout peut s'oublier
Qui s'enfuit déjà
Oublier le temps
Des malentendus
Et le temps perdu
À savoir comment
Oublier ces heures
Qui tuaient parfois
À coups de pourquoi
Le cœur du bonheur
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Moi, je t'offrirai
Des perles de pluie
Venues de pays
Où il ne pleut pas
Je creuserai la terre
Jusqu'après ma mort
Pour couvrir ton corps
D'or et de lumière
Je ferai un domaine
Où l'amour sera roi
Où l'amour sera loi
Où tu seras reine
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Je t'inventerai
Des mots insensés
Que tu comprendras
Je te parlerai
De ces amants-là
Qui ont vu deux fois
Leurs cœurs s'embraser
Je te raconterai
L'histoire de ce roi
Mort de n'avoir pas
Pu te rencontrer
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
On a vu souvent
Rejaillir le feu
De l'ancien volcan
Qu'on croyait trop vieux
Il est, paraît-il
Des terres brûlées
Donnant plus de blé
Qu'un meilleur avril
Et quand vient le soir
Pour qu'un ciel flamboie
Le rouge et le noir
Ne s'épousent-ils pas?
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Je ne vais plus pleurer
Je ne vais plus parler
Je me cacherai là
À te regarder
Danser et sourire
Et à t'écouter
Chanter et puis rire
Laisse-moi devenir
L'ombre de ton ombre
L'ombre de ta main
L'ombre de ton chien
Mais
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Beau texted me

How you doing gorgeous, I'm sorry for infringing on your nice comment and beautiful profile. do you mind friendship?
@@jamesluis1767 ne me quitte pas
Extraordinaire, unique...
❤️😪
I hope Cecy read this, and I hope she realized how much she is loved by you.......
😢lute por ela.
ESTA ES LA SEGUNDA O LA MEJOR CANCIÓN DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS, NO RECUERDO BIEN.
In my humble opinion, Jacques Brel sang with more passion than almost any singer. He truly was at a lonely height.

Jacques Brel, he isn't singing a song. He sings emotions

I think I being playing this song over 30 times hahaha I am gonna have a date tomorrow and he is inspiring me to fall in love. ❤️
I promise I wouldn’t NEVER leave you... Eu ia te amar de todas as formas que brasileira sabe. OMG!
The moment when you accually watch someone die inside. So painful and yet so beutiful to listen to, and to watch. A master piece in so many ways. He hardly keept it together and was on the edge of breaking down more than once. Still pulled it through and made it the performance of all times.
You do know he was acting right, and performed it this way at every live performance? You are not too smart.

I come back to this song every so often to feel alive
Listen to Scott Walker's 'If you go away' to understand the lyrics a little bit better. But, of course, Jacques' version is the best.
He's begging to don't be leaved by his beloved, gradually descending on a spiral of humiliating remarks. With unmatched poetry.
Listen to Streisand's. Once you know the words, tears...
Talking to his side chick, the guy was married with 3 kids and a wife. Then the mistress got tired of empty promises of divorce, etc. Then the guy wrote that song
Thank you Belgium 🇧🇪 for this masterpiece.
Many, myself included, considered this one of the greatest love songs ever. He bares his soul, his anguish is real, and the poetry is haunting.
Could you tell me other love songs?

One of the truly great songs (music + LYRICS) of the 20th century... and I'm not even a fan of French/Belgian music. Absolutely brilliant.
Melhor interpretação da música Né me quites pas! Jaques Brel!

Every time I listen to him, I got chills and think that my heart is going to stop. AWESOME. RIP. Jacques Brel.

very good translation.

🥺
🌿🕊️🤍
Why wouldn’t your “age group” find this interesting? Music transcends generations. Hence the reason why even the youngest children are transfixed by Bethoven, Bach, Wagner etc.
never allow yourself to be limited by the events and music exclusive to your era.
I suppose that's true! I just don't know many people who would enjoy listening to this music now or even know who he is. I would love to be wrong though :)@@Olyphantman

its him sweating so much with him pleading her not to leave him, that makes it so moving.
I know there's a magnificent story of a heartbreak behind this song. I can see it on his face, I can hear it in his voice. He was literally crying. The most wonderful song and interpretation ever.♥
Yes, there is a heartbreak behind this song. His wife left him.
Actually he left his mistress (Zizou) when he knew she was pregnant. This song it's a self-punishment, a catharsis.

What a master of song. His lyrics, his music, the orchestra, and his delivery were all so perfect. This is a song about a coward for love. He did not have the courage to leave a broken love. Just look at Brel's face. He captured the man's agony like an actor. Brel paints with words. He is really a painter.
