  • In this video I will be talking about different types of wire nuts. Some of these you may have not seen before and are much easier to use than the typical metal romex connector with a locknut. Although, the typical romex connector has stood the test of time the new plastic romex connectors are nothing to sweep under the rug. I will leave some amazon links to the ones in the videos also check out my store for more exciting items.

    Can I use the black Arlington for a dishwasher hook up at the Dishwasher itself versus the metal old-fashioned strain relief screw type ?
    thank you very much

    Here on the West Coast they are made by Halex @ Home Depot.
    I've been using, and cursing, the metal connectors for decades.

    A cable was installed in my breaker box without any connector at all. I can't install one because the box is drywalled in. I'd like to remedy this before I put the house up for sale. What's the proper solution? Is a rubber grommet acceptable? It's a 1.75" hole.

      For goodness sake just cut the drywall (carefully). Drywall is super easy to replace and match. I do drywall repaur all the time.
      My service panel backs up to the kitchen cabinets, so if I want to add a line it's either pulling all the top cabinets (custom builtins as one unit) or cut stucco outside.

      @@scottslotterbeck3796 he doesnt need to cut the drywall. He could have just slipped the plastic one on the end of the wires and installed it backwards, like from the inside of the box.

    I prefer the metal romance connectors I guess because I've used them for the last 45 years.

      I usually use them exclusively, but there are times when the plastic ones are pretty handy. Thanks for watching and commenting ☺

      The metal connectors are a lot of trouble. As long as you staple the romex 8" from the box, these push-in ones seem like a great time saver.

    I’m completely clueless about this kind of stuff. What is the purpose of them? Is it to keep wire from pulling out? Is it to keep critters from getting in? Is it to protect from run I g against metal edge? Just curious

    • @MountaineerOutdoors
      @MountaineerOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Strain relief so the romex won't be pulled out. And keeps the romex safe from sharp edges inside the panel

    I use the metal 99.999999 percent. The plastic on old work or other than cannot get to the back of or no slack ability to push slack into a wall, etc. And then only on the end appliance, device never on steel boxes, panels etc.

      They're meant for steel boxes, and the plastic boxes use the grabby entry points for the romex, so these would be fine, anywhere in the system, one wire only per hole I assume.

  • @hippo-potamus
    @hippo-potamus 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    "Not that much more than a metal romex connector" I will take the tradeoff of speed for longevity and durability of metal. Plus they cost less? In upside down world plastic costs more than metal. Makes no sense.

    • @MountaineerOutdoors
      @MountaineerOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True. Some things don't make sense but plastic is apparently made with petroleum products. Have a great day and thanks for the comment and watching

      Nah, they're lots cheaper. $9.50 for a 25 pack.
      These will last the life of your installation. UL approval still means something.
