    Thanks for the useful tip. Tried it on a stainless steel blade that had a dull look and it polished up nicely. More importantly, I tried it on a couple of carbon steel folders, which I never use on food, but which develop patina spots, nonetheless, and they also got a nice shine. Really cool; thank you. 👍😏

    I used Arm & Hammer toothpaste on my stainless steel watch and it works just as well sure it's not as shiny like it was originally but the steel matte finish it has now doesn't bother me as much as having scratches all over the thing.

    Toothpaste also is great for restoring headlights. Gets all the I guess you can say "oxidation" off and you can always get a trial size tube for like $1.00 at any grocery store. I love the Arm & Hammer. It's cheap and works well

      So does insect repellant with deet. Just be sure to "work wet" and polish before it dries. It slightly liquifies the surface of plastics. Good for buffing off oxidation, or scratches without going through grits.

    I have a manual to my electic toothbrush that instructed me to brush upper inside / upper outside/ lower inside / lower outside 30 sec each morning and night. After ten years I have brushed my teeth 120hours straight!!!
    Would someone make some serious $$$ if I have holes in my teeth because I've polished the enamel off my teeth or why do they recommend this?

    • @TabLeft
      @TabLeft  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the toothpaste is pretty diluted in your mouth during brushing and you shouldnt be using the kind of pressure you would for polishing. The enamel on your teeth his pretty tough stuff, plus most of the tooth pastes are on the low to medium Rda side anyway.

    How to mirror polish silver necklace without power tools

    • @TabLeft
      @TabLeft  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use pure silver wire to make jewelry which often tarnishes to a very dark finish. I soak the wire in boiling water and baking soda with a good sized piece of aluminum foil. This will remove the majority of the tarnish. After that a light buffing with a mild abrasive paste like flitz or some tooth pastes as shown in the video will shine in to a high gloss mirror finish. If the diy approach isn’t for you you can purchase chemical cleaners that work very well online.

    • @dj90-d8q
      @dj90-d8q 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I thought about it, but it wouldn't be a fair comparison unless I could find the approximate Rda of the polishing compound and get the matching grit toothpaste. Sorry, but I think your video is very misleading. On stainless steel, I've tested 6 toothpastes and not found any detectable abrasive activity. What I think might be happening on aluminum is that the toothpaste is dislodging some aluminum oxide particles on the surface, which is going on to act as the abrasive. Also I'm not aware of any toothpaste that has aluminum oxide in it. Link to a MSDS please?
