When you collection video games make sure you have enough space for all the games

One do that I have learned is to take advantage of trade credit at local game stores. While your out hunting pick up games for a good amount less than they trade in for (while also reselling the games that aren’t worth it to trade) then use the credit to pick up bangers or things that are really hard to find in the condition you want like cib DS games.

Do: Buy games you actually want to play and not just for display purposes
Don't: Only buy games for value

Another don't is not to focus on collecting for to many systems. Pick maybe four systems at the most and aim for the games which personally interest you on those systems.

There is no single answer for collectors. Everyone collects differently. Some want complete collections. Others go for games that could appreciate over time. Others only buy games they want to play. I hear all the time that collecting is too expensive but there are still many great approaches to building a collection cheap. Like anything else, if you want to get into this hobby just start and see where it goes.

I regret selling my games too, although at the time I really didn't see any other financial option. 2008 and the few years that followed were pretty rough for many people, myself included. By 2011 I had a put together a small but mighty arcade collection that I had to let go at the time. Trying to rebuild that collection in 2024 is proving pretty tough. The prices of many boards in 2024 have shot up in price, sometimes double or more what they were going for in the 2010s. Japanese "candy cabs" in particular have also climbed in value. Candy cabs that I was able to get in 2010 for $500-600 now fetch $2000 or more, with some of the most desirable models climbing to well over $5000.
In the early 2000s I had sold off a lot of retro console games at the time. Trying to rebuild that collection in 2024 is costing me a small fortune, although I am being a lot more selective about which games I am going for this time around.
All the while I am continuing to ask myself why I am still in this hobby, and if it still holds as much meaning and value to me as I enter my 40s. For now the answer is yes but if that answer ever changes substantially I won't have a problem letting go of the collection again. I am only hoping that a new generation of kids will find these games and appreciate them as much as we did.

Cool videos, I just started kind of collecting playstation and nintendo games, this was mostly started because I remember playing on my older brother’s ps2 and ps3, which most of the games were sold so I’m trying to buy the same games but overall its really fun and cool.

Some of those games I have picked up are for £1s and I want to play them
I watch TH-camrs and they make me think about games I should have played and help me try games I wouldn't have

Never pay for overpriced games that aren’t worth it. Rather just download the ROM for $0.

Sega cd is legit. Disk add ons such as the pc engine cd ROM, and famicom disk system where very popular in Japan. However one can make the case against the 32x. That thing is bootleg.

I heard Uncle Tim Rants & Reviews say similar sentiments about collecting. "At this point, I'm not buying sh*t just to buy it anymore. I'm not tryin' to be like, "Yeah I got this!". Ya gotta want what you get." I feel that to THE FULLEST!!! I'm not really playing any currrent/new games really. Mainly 7th and 8th gen stuff that I can eventually trade/sell to make room.
