As a younger horsepower loving mechanic who’s dad is a diesel mechanic. I grew up in this technologically inspired highly computerized age. So, I have always been greatly intrigued by technology and how computers worked. Well, as I grew up from that young boy I realized just how much of it we use in modern vehicles. So, I was able to easily understand how most everything worked together. For me comprehending how any of the EFI systems worked was mostly just figuring out the specific manufacture’s circuit design. I still remember first learning about all this and how a fully mechanical diesel engine runs in comparison,. . I appreciate you giving me a look into that which I have very few experiences with.
Y'all should be " Kid 1, Kid ll and The Kid Maker" I luv you all . Awesome group. I'm no groupie , I'm a 67 year old mountain man biker and I learn a little something new with each of your videos. Keep up the good work. Just a Fan
You guys are awesome! I built my S10 mild with a 350\350. Was a blast! Sold for down payment for my crappy house! Miss it alot! Keep up the got work I see you guys going far!
Thank you sir for all the set-up details, I was wanting to go twins on a big block chevy and a blowthrough carb in a 95 c1500. God bless and thanks again.
Good shtuff. It would be very interesting if you would mount some gorpro under the truck and watch the suspension work. thought watching the suspension with different shock settings would tell alot. Thanks for your videos. You truly inspired me to get my old car out. Ive spent way more in insurance and tags than i have fuel in the past five yrs. Im stoked to spend the winter getting her dialed in for the spring. Thank you for giving me the kick in the ass i need to get back in my garage. Your carb videos really got my ol passion fired up. And thank you for the keep it real feel. Not everybody can afford half a dozen turbo vettes, and a track in their back yard. You guys are a class act. Country class, but real......
We have had good luck using a Katz bottom radiator hose heater to aid in warm up. Usually plug it in a hour or so before starting and even plug it in between rounds to keep a little heat in it.
I was told the fuel pressure regulator needs referenced from the hat because the boost pressure is higher above the throttle blades than in the manifold and since the bowls are seeing the pressure in the hat then to refence it there. Obviously it works either way but that's what I was taught.
Bill, to assist with getting the motor up to temp: have you considered using a 110V plug in block pre heater like the one I have on my diesel? They make a few different styles, some that replace a freeze plug and some that go inside with the lower radiator hose. Using a pre heater you could have the truck plugged into a generator or power inverter while on the way to the spot, waiting in the lanes, etc, and then reduce your warm up time. You could run the electric water pump to circulate coolant while the engine is nor running to get an even amount of heat through the motor.
Good job checking the clock. I have always said if you take care of your neighbors they will take care of you. Some folks do not stop to consider the neighbors when doing things around the their own house late at night, let alone warming up a 1500 horse small block stove bolt. Although I would not mind myself. Love me some V8 sounds.
I run naturally aspirated circle track car I always block the power valve seems to make the engine alot more responsive. Revs quick responds fast no hesitation on the bottom of the rpm or top of rpm. When blocking the power valve supposed jump 2 jet sizes to make up for the power valve. Downsizing the accelrator pump from 50cc to 30cc makes it alot more responsive also
Yall should get ole "Melvin Fredrick" to start him a channel up called auto pros detailing. Tips and tricks for detailing, he could go over the products he uses and how to use them properly like he did on the sh*t wagon . just a thought. Love the videos ole man it's really good to see that you take the time out to have bible studies with your family its obvious you have never forgotten where you come from and I love to see that.. I would love to see a video called the Grass Roots edition of the Old Man, talking about your first race cars their setups and what really made you get into all of this and the first vehicles you learned to tune on as far as all motor, Nos, and turbos basically how it has all progressed with you.. thanks to you and your family!!!
I've just recently found your channel and liking what you have going on. The S 10 has lot happening. I get that you know plenty about carburetors and they work, but I think if you ever choose to go with EFI and a throttle body rather than the blow-through carburetor you may find it a lot more versatile in the tuning department and brings more power management when and where you want it.
Once upon a time I was running a 377. I had the 400 block with the center freeze plug holes ,and ran block heaters in mine. I'm sure there are more high tech ways now, but that might be an idea for you to get that engine warmed quicker. Don't they make a set up that actually circulates the water. You might have to lose the thermostat and go with a restrictor but.
Knew it was a matter of time before Y.T. Add smearer found this page. I dislike that crap and now they are putting adds up here. Anyway, enough of my sniveling. Thanks for the content. I enjoy they hell out of it. Be safe out there everyone!!!
I'm wanting to build a loft like that in my shop. Can you tell me what the measurements are from the floor to the bottom of the truss, and from the floor to the bottom of the ceiling joist? 2x12 joists? Love your channel, real talk from a man with 100% love and unselfish devotion to his family. Thanks for sharing knowledge and tips with us, I've learned a lot from you
Get you a hot box from a dirt racer with quick connects...plug it in to a generator on the trailer, connect it to the truck, and let the non running warm up begin.
That's some serious science you've got going on there with Billys set up. How did you go from nitrous, to learning all those little details to make that turbo system work properly?
Awesome channel, I really enjoy the tech talk and tips for s10. I’ve been thinking about getting into this an s10 are my favorite. I’ve raced dirt bikes and built quite a few , but my sons getting older and losing interest. Definitely want to keep him into racing and away from negative activities or video games .
G’day Bill, from Western Australia, Perth. After you spoke about lengthy periods required to warm up Billy’s engine, would it be worth considering a jacket water (coolant) heater? One of the cylinder head coolant by-pass lines could be intercepted and a small aluminium tank fitted with a mains power heater element that you simply plug into. At the track if you haven’t got access to mains power you could run a small generator to power the element. Jump in, turn key and engine is at operating temperature, no lengthy engine warm up periods, burning fuel and running your race engine unnecessarily. Yours and Billy’s channels are awesome my friend and the only channel’s I have ever subscribed to. I’ve watched every vid and admire the effort your whole family put in to provide the world with your real life journey. Please, keep them coming. Thank you!!
Can you do a video some time explaining how you got into racing? How you learned everything you know. You're pretty smart on all of this stuff. Maybe start out with your first car and go from there. That would be cool.
He talked about how Billy and the whole SRC started out- Recommend watching if you haven't yet. Tho, Bill has only brushed on his days racing. The 55 is the grandparent's, that was brought because Bill father fell in love with it. Later hot rodded it. Bills interest came from sitting in the back seat at a young age of the 55, urging his father to stomp on the peddle.
Can’t you run a bottle warmer/block warmer that you can turn on however earlier than you want to be running it to warm it all up Especially the sump to evaporate the moisture in the oil ?
We preheat the oil and we use the hot shot radiator engine heater before we fire our engines in the Sprint car. Google hot shot engine heaters. We have less engine failures by preheating everything.
I love your videos. Can't wait for them to come out. I watch everyone. I was wondering would it do any good to install 110 volt block heater. To pre warm the engine? You cold take a small generator on the road to plug in? Would it still condensate water in the oil?
Use a question and not sure if you will know the answer Or not but it doesn't hurt to run it by you.. Focus I've got a 2002 Firebird ls1 car So Factory fuel injected Still running on stock ecu. Heads Cam pistons rods looking to head with a shot of nos. But here's my question how do I control the timing on this thing?? It does have knock sensors but I do not solely want to rely on them as I feel that's not a good idea!! I watch the video on Tommy truck Is there a way I could hook up something like that to mine??? I've got a full aluminium intake that I plan on tapping with a jet
Water in the distributor cap caused a little issue, it broke a bolt on the advance mechanism. The fix was a distributor overhaul with parts from a used (donated off old distributor & modified to fit) distributor bronze gear.
Thanks for these videos. They are very informative and helpful. I've been watching SRC for a couple of years now. One question... I heard that the air inlet temps were 280+ degrees... Is there a particular reason that you do not use an intercooler? Just asking... not being critical.
Love y'all thank you for your time and awesome content .. I can't wait till your next upload ... P.S. it would be a dream come true if I could just hangout with you guys for one day
Is it possible to run something else for warm ups, then to switch over to methanol after she's warmed up? Thanks! Check out Seven Sermons To The Dead by Carl Jung. Thats my go to but its not for everyone..
Was wandering what's the biggest dome piston that y'all have used with the use of Turbos and amount of Nitrous sprayed with all the above mentioned, thanks
Good morning Bill. We are getting ready to install an Msd 6AL-2 programmable in our 69 Nova. Been on a 7AL box up to this point. We are N/A on a bbc on E85. Does this box data log? Just started studying the specs on this box. I’m just wanting more info on our engine and tuning ability.
Awesome video as usual sir. Do/ have y'all measured IAT under the carb? If I can keep the thrust bearing in mine I plan to put some pre and post throttle body temps out there. Really cool how similar our engine bays are. Makes me kind of regret selling the blow through carb for the sniper.
I believe that's where it came from in first place. On the 350/355/383/400/406 small block the old man dont brag up and likes to be a sleeper. The engine might of even came out to project firebird then ended up in 55 with nasty cool cam that was intended for Molly but the 55 needed to run again too.
I know nothing about methanol, but cleetus has a meth fed car on his channel right now. They heat the oil up with a heater before they fire it up. Might be something to look into for a winter upgrade. Big 110V heat pad glued to the bottom of the oil pan. I used to have one on my diesel truck wired in with my block heater.
The more compression, the less boost you need. That's what boost does. It raises the compression. As long as you can do math, you should be ok. For instance. Say you have 11.0:1 compression. For every 2lbs of boost the compression goes up about 1.5 on the ratio. So at 20lbs of boost, your effective compression ratio would be 26.0:1. Anyone that tells you, you can't run more that 11.0:1 are lying to you so you make less power or simply don't know any better. We've been doing it since the 90s.
How? Methanol.. Extremely forgiving. Hence why when he runs a less forgiving fuel like e85, the tune is much less aggressive. Also, 28 or 30lbs is not considered high boost. So if you don't plan on running 50 or 60lbs, you can go a bit higher on static compression, which is what he did the last freshen up. It's all about cylinder pressure.
@@waynebollentin989 Technically that's not true. Boost does not alter static compression numbers in any way. That is built into the engine and can't change without a parts change. What it DOES do is increase CYLINDER PRESSURE. Two different things. One does not always correlate with the other, as those old boost formulas would suggest. Boost isn't compression, it is cylinder pressure,, and how much compression you run with boost depends on many factors, fuel type being at the top of the list. Hope this helps.
@@vengeanceizmine9878 please re-read what I wrote. I didn't say it did alter static compression ratio. That's not what I said at all. I said effective compression ratio which is 100% accurate. Effective compression ratio is what you get when you add static compression ratio and boost. I tried to explain it without making it too complicated and gave a short example. You're correct as far as static compression ratio goes but you misunderstood what I said.
@@vengeanceizmine9878 saying methanol is more forgiving is true but it's also kinda misleading. The reason people say it's more forgiving is because you can make good power even when rich. So it give a bigger window but if you tune for all out power. You still must be careful when you get on the lean side. I've seen plenty of guys make this mistake thinking they can run leaner with methanol because it's "more forgiving" when that's not the case. It's more forgiving in the rich zone for sure. Winder afr range where you will make power but if someone thinks they have that same forgiveness on the lean side of the afr, they're very mistaken.

Could you couple the engine coolant from to the tow vehicle to the race truck? Keep the block up at temp and maybe save warm up fuel
Heck I really dig the new wheels. Havnt seen them as much..
Awesome as usual

Good info. Great video
We need to start a go fund me to get Billy those ball bearing turbos
I’d donate 👌
Ball bearing turbos aren't always necessary. Check this out when you have a chance.

Thanks guys! Interesting carb
Awesome video! Thanks so much!
Great videos! Can you do one explaining Billy’s boost control and co2 setup?
