      I've seen John Doc stretch the Hoosiers on a wider double bead lock rim to stiffen the side wall. Do you think it reduces wear without compromising to much grip? Your video's are good to by the way.

    You are so right there is always someone new looking for knowledge. I grew up with the dream of drag racing, did some street racing in my small town Oklahoma, with a 70 442-w30. My dad helped his uncle win spring nationals in Bristol Tenn in the late 60’s so the love of drag racing was inevitable. Long story short, joined military and went to Desert Storm, married and raised kids. Now raising grandkids, I realized I might be old but not dead, lol. So I have built a ls 408, turbo 400, Z28. Probably won’t be able to afford to make it to the track this year but it will happen. You think you are rambling and not a good speaker but you have a vast amount of invaluable information for an old soldier trying to live his young man’s dream on a disability pension. Thank you

    Completely agree with the not wasting a single thing, my papas taught me at a young age that it takes putting your hand work into anything you do or buy to really appreciate and respect the sacrifice of your short time in life to get it and enjoy, appreciate, and take care of what you have earned!!
    So your teaching Billy a very valuable lesson, he may not realize as much now as he will later in life but one day he will realize that you were only trying to help him with what you have already learned in life as I did with what my papas taught me!! Billy soak all of the old man's knowledge in because it really comes to help with so many things in life!

    I'm a fan of the Hoosier DO6, because I only ever raced on garbage surfaces. At 15 passes they were usually done and that's because for me there was also travel miles on them from around town. (No trailer here) The aerodynamics of a car have always intrigued me and I really got a good lesson in the late 90s, I was working with a gentleman who was a retired engineer from the aerospace industry, this guy has forgotten more than I will ever know about aerodynamics. I learned I was doing alot wrong.....🤣.....but I took everything I could away from my lessons and applied all of it to my car.
    Great video as always, God bless !

    I’m loving all yalls video’s. I’m learning a lot from you guys. As far as the crack in Billy’s wing, I don’t know if you know or not but you can do what’s called a stop drill. Use a #30 drill bit and drill a hole right at the end of the crack and it will help stop the crack from spreading until you have time to fix it. Also I wish I could be there to watch Billy race Brent self. That’s gonna be a good race but a tough one. I’ve been watching Brent and the BSM on Street Outlaws. He’s dam fast, but so is Billy. Hope y’all take the win. Good luck this weekend.

    Back when I raced micro sprints, we used to soak the tires in purple power the night before. It made the tires a little softer for the heat race. When we came back to the pit from the heat race the soft part of the tire would be burned off. We would pass the durometer test if we were chosen. Every bit helps. Great video.

    You are right about clean and dirty air. That is why people change their wickerbill to get more down force. On my old truck we used to run about an inch tall. But that takes alot of testing to figure it out. Yes you will buy more tires running the Hoosiers but they do hook pretty good. We never ran Hoosiers we always ran MT and Goodyear. But then again we did very little street racing. Mostly because my truck was not street legal. Good luck and good information.

      @@theoldmansgarage Wow really they are sorta hard to find. This was my wife's brothers truck. He was in the middle of trying to bring it back to life when he passed away do to a accident. A few years later I have finally got it and hope to make him proud how it turned out. Not trying to turn out a show truck. I like the rough look and all the old welds/patch work on it. I'm putting it on an S10 chassis and going from there. I do have a question for you I guess I was always wondering what Billy's Truck weighs front, back and total weight? I don't have a lot of money I'm just been so back and forth on fuel injected or going carbureted and twins or a single turbo.

    I helped/crewed on for several door slammer cars in the seventies. One was a BB/GS, the other was a Pro Gas car, the style of racing that NHRA made into Super Gas because they felt too many people couldn't run the 9:50 index we ran on in Sacramento and other N. Calif strips. It was common then to rotate tires from side to side, often after only two or three passes. Same with axles after a few races, which would take a set and start to twist splines. Equipment such as axles are better now, but tires are much the same. We ran Goodyears, or maybe Firestones, what would now be classed as big tire. It was all no prep with water burnouts, if you couldn't hook, you lost, nothing new there. When the surface of the tire started to ball up, they were pretty much done for. Don't know if you have tried rotating tires or not, but worth thinking about, particularly if you find yourself in the situation you talked about in the video. Great video, so much knowledge explained.

    The aluminium brazing low temperature brazing rods actually works on things like that wing. There's still people out there that think that lowering the tailgate actually helps aerodynamics on a truck with open bed they need to watch wind tunnel tests

    • @lloydholt6511
      @lloydholt6511 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the auto channels actually took viewership to wind tunnels with several Oem. All said and demonstrated that, opening the tailgate actually had little effect on drag. Watch a truck going down the highway. A piece of paper will slowly rotate in the bed at the tailgate at highway speeds. Almost no downforce. Engineered to provide Minimal downforce. Engineers actually Demonstrated this airflow across the hood, roofline and bed with smoke wands.

    19:13 I would say you are most definitely "right"! If running without a nose is faster, why doesn't every NASCAR team rip all the noses off their cars before the race? Once you get rolling good, aero is a BIG DEAL! Pro Mods and Funny cars look pretty silly, imho... but, damn are they fast.

    I notice you guys dont seem to adjust in the wing. Do you make adjustments? Also looking at some of the recent races you guys have had, especially against Patch's S10, truck carrys the nose the whole run. And Billy talked about having wheel speed on the top end. So would more wing or trying to get the air out from under the truck help? Love the info 👍

    Bill your like a encyclopedia & I’m the sponge lmbo I’m glad you threw that little tip out there bout the Hoosiers cause that’s what I’m always running on my car & yes I’ve noticed when they get some hits “15 or more” they don’t work as well. Now I’ve not had my car out in a few years , I’ve had higher priorities. God decided I needed another child at 40🤦‍♂️ but it was the best thing for me, he saved my life, I was at the bottom of the hole and going sideways a million miles an hour, plus my grandma died and my grandpa took a stroke, so Bitts-N-Peeces took the back burner. It’s coming around slowly tho, hopefully spring that is if I can get Chris B. moving besides riding side by sides lmbo But be safe, good luck & if I had the money you DAMN SURE KNOW it be on you guys💯💪🏻💪🏻💯 SRC FTW 💯💪🏻💯
