I've been in love with the B3 for years now but not enough to want to buy one. Who knew I'd end up with a VIRTUAL one lol? I LOVE this thing. Using a Hammond XK3 as the contoller. Using the XK3 as the controller had lots of bugs when the first version of B3x was released and I worked with IKMultimedia for over a month to get it to work and that's when they released the second version. SO cool! Much thanks to IKMultimedia for all the work on it and letting me be of assistance in getting the XK3 working FULLY with this software.
Glad you’re enjoying playing by yourself. A B3 musician, this system sound 4¢ higher than a Hammond tonewheel. On stage you can’t match instruments like a Hammond. But its infinite fun in your basement with hauling a B3 down there
Right off the bat, there is absolutely nothing like the feeling of sitting behind one of these powerful beasts. I have so many memories of playing the real thing. Nothing compares to the physicality of having both manuals, and that crazy full pedalboard under your feet, hearing the tone wheels spinning, and almost getting your hair blown back by the frenetic spinning of the Leslies! These virtual emulations allow us to relive a fraction of that experience, and an iPad weighs laughably less than one of those behemoths. Thanks so much for watching.
Well, tonewheel organs are not velocity sensitive by nature. There is a phenomenon that occurs on the real instruments where each key contact triggers the tonewheel assigned to it. I will have to see if there is a setting that could possibly control or adjust that.
You’re so good! Player and teacher! I just purchased bx3 iPad version. Want to purchase D9X controller. Will it require a lot of work to program or almost plug in ready. I know I will use hub. Just curious about programming. Thank you for your help.
It should be ready to go out of the box. I think there are a couple of assignments that needed tweaking but should be fairly easy to do under the hood of the B-3x. Having the hands-on control is a great experience. The iPad version is great because of the touch but the physical drawbars and buttons take it even further. Thanks for watching and the kind words. Keep me posted. Joyfully.
Great review, loved the end Gospel covered lead B3 playing 👍 Simeon - hope you had a great Christmas, and really looking forward to your next demo reviews in 2020!! 🎅🖐🍻
The real controller for this would be bass pedals, and a 2 manual (dual stacked keyboard) because you really need the lower manual too to access the 3 parts. Pedal, Great manual (lower manual) and the Swell (upper manual). You play the mellow accompaniment on the lower manual and the solo lead on the upper manual with the pedals for bass. A Hammond SKX or XK-5 neither cheap, could midi to this plug in and control it. Of course that raises the price substantially but real organists would want this. Studio tracking musicians could track the pedals, lower and upper manuals to get the same effect for recording. But as a performer I'd want an organ controller for this plug in after testing it today. It sounds amazing and the Leslie sim is the best out there.

My impression is that IK used this to help them really get a look deep inside these mammoth musical instruments through having access to schematics, etc.. The sound to me really sounds nice and rich. The VB-3II is nice and light on the CPU but I do not remember running into any CPU load issues that stood our during my review. Another aspect that sets the B-3x apart is the integration of the IK Leslie simulation which to me has sort of an “air” about it that just adds something very special and alive to the sound. Brandon, I tried a few experiments yesterday and each manual is assigned a MIDI channel. You can use one keyboard to play splits and such, but you need to be able to assign key ranges. I am working on a short video that can illustrate this, but it was a lot of fun when I was able to get the bass in the left hand. ;^) Stay tuned.
Thanks for some really great organ reviews on GSI VB3-2 and the IK multimedia organ. Which one do you prefer playing the most? Is one more cpu demanding than the other?
Mads, I really love what GSI has accomplished, Guido has been a pioneer in bringing the virtual organ to us. I need to pull VB3 back up as it has been a while. I do enjoy playing the B-3X, and I guess it could be the visual experience that helps to pull you in a little more. I will say that CPU can get a little up there every once in a while. I also love the Leslie emulations. Another virtual drawbar organ is Blue which is also very nice, with each one having their own color and personality. Thanks so much for watching.
@@PraiseTracks I just put the two demo versions at a side by side test on my i7 10700 laptop. They both sound really great, I tend to prefer the B3-X leslie over VB3-2 but it is so close and, I get very inspired playing both. Make sure that in the MIDI input in the B-3X is using the Yamaha USB MIDI as the input. Upper is ch1, Lower ch2, Pedals ch3. There is also some split options as well that lets you have Bass in left hand and Upper in the right hand. Thanks for watching. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
@@PraiseTracks Thanks for the quick response, but when I go into the B3X settings panel (where it says MIDI INPUT), the only option it gives me is 'ANY'. Shouldn't the Keyboard show up there?
Mitch, are you using your Yamaha with any other DAW? I am thinking there might need to be a MIDI to Host driver your Yamaha needs to communicate through the USB. ANY would listen for any attached MIDI devices. Also make sure the Yamaha is set to transmit MIDI TO Host, sometimes that has to be set in the MOTIF.
I currently use a Studiologic SL-880 which is a weighted 88 key controller. Of course a non-weighted would probably be faster when playing organ and synth virtual instruments but it works 😎 Thanks so much for watching.
Hopefully I can get a copy of this to check out. Is there a control screen where is shows the assignments? You could send me a screen shot or two at praisetracks@gmail.com
Hi, Guido. I am also using an M-Audio Axiom (1st generation) for my upper manual. As you know, from some of my other posts, I have been sitting back a bit on making the plunge. I have to presume the iPad version has a MIDI Learn function. Did you send IK Multimedia an email? There are four 5 star reviews in the App Store. None of the four made any mention of issues with assigning MIDI controls. I hope you can get this rectified soon. Good luck.
Guido, I have just installed this on my iPad. I will do some tests and get back with you ASAP. From first looks this is amazing and should be a lot of fun.
Guido, OK so while there is MIDI control, there is not MIDI LEARN! So this is what you need to do to get this to work with the iPad version: * Tap the Settings Icon (the "gear" in the upper right corner). * Look under the MIDI CONTROLLERS section and you can see what MIDI controls are assignable. * You can see that each control has a "CC" number assigned to it, this is the MIDI Continuous Controller number that controls that specific parameter. * Tap into the CC number beside the parameter you want to assign. * The important thing to remember here is that you need to know the CC Number for the control of the Axiom you want to assign. Leslie Speed is typically set to the Modulation Wheel which is CC1 * Looking at a picture of the Axiom it looks like it has a display where you can see what CC numbers are assigned to a specific Axiom control and quite possibly can change them on the Axiom to match the iPad B-3x CC settings. * So another way is to find the control on your Axiom you want to assign and figure out the CC Number, then "tap" into the CC number on the iPad B-3x and "manually" input it there. MIDI Learn is a much needed feature I think so hopefully they can do this in a future update. I hope that helped some, please let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with. BTW: the iPad version is crazy!!!!
Simeon Amburgey I find it very strange that IK didn’t include MIDI Learn on B-3X for iPad. I have SampleTank, iGrand, iLectric and Syntronik for iPad. All IK products. And all have MIDI Learn. Don’t understand why they would release B-3X without it. Hopefully, that will be in a future update.
The main thing that comes to mind is to make sure Cubase is pointing to the correct VST folder location where the B3x was installed. Also I think B3X is 64 bit and not sure if Cubase 5 supports 64 bit plugins. Not for sure, just trying to troubleshoot. Thanks so much for watching and if I find out anything additional I will let you know.
I do apologize, there is just so much I am trying to process at times. I am really trying to work on improving this in the future. I do hope you found the video helpful? Thanks for watching.

Check this link for the USB MIDI driver download.

Mitch, just checking in to see how things were coming along.
What keyboard controller are you using? Is it weighted?
I currently use a Studiologic SL-880 which is a weighted 88 key controller. Of course a non-weighted would probably be faster when playing organ and synth virtual instruments but it works 😎
Thanks so much for watching.
I use the iPad version, and somehow, I couldn’t set up the sliders on my M-Audio Axiom to control the drawbars. Mission impossible so far.
So this is what you need to do to get this to work with the iPad version:
* Tap the Settings Icon (the "gear" in the upper right corner).
Leslie Speed is typically set to the Modulation Wheel which is CC1
* Looking at a picture of the Axiom it looks like it has a display where you can see what CC numbers are assigned to a specific Axiom control and quite possibly can change them on the Axiom to match the iPad B-3x CC settings.
I cannot open IK Hammond in Cubase 5. Somebody can help me?
The main thing that comes to mind is to make sure Cubase is pointing to the correct VST folder location where the B3x was installed. Also I think B3X is 64 bit and not sure if Cubase 5 supports 64 bit plugins. Not for sure, just trying to troubleshoot. Thanks so much for watching and if I find out anything additional I will let you know.
Vst instruments
This is putting my AcousticSamples B5 to shame.
Less talking...more playing..I just want to hear what it sounds like.
I do apologize, there is just so much I am trying to process at times. I am really trying to work on improving this in the future. I do hope you found the video helpful? Thanks for watching.
