My brother Will Suddeth. Good to see him and hear him. Love it. I compared the virtual organs and decided on the GSI VB3 II. I’d love to see a true shootout between those two where settings are the same.
I just picked this up for $83.99. It’s on sale for 119.99, and I used my IK jam points to get the price down to the $83.99. I’ve been using NI and others for years. This is the best of them all. IMHO. Keep up the good work Mike!
My 1st Hammond was an oooold RT-2, 2nd one was a 1955 B3 like you mentioned. Ive had several more B3’s, “but none measures up to my 1955”. Must be slight differences in caps, coils and their tone wheel adjustments. The 147 looks good, rotors rotate opposite like the real thing. Besides a Leslie, which is a MUST, I like to keep C1 on the Hammond. I’m a cancer patient & getting too old to lift a Hammond & Leslie anymore. So I’m using VB3-II these days.
I picked this up as part of a Total Studio Max 4 sale for $105 (after Jam points). I flippin' love it! I'm a rock guitar player but I am a huge fan of the sound of this thing in Jazz and Prog Rock music so I decided to add it to a few of my tracks and it instantly cranked the cool factor up to 11.
Love what you Gentlemen bring to the table. I really enjoyed The Rev's playing. Sweet. As a lifelong lover of the Hammond + Leslie I am sold on this IK MultiMedia. I have owned the real deal - sold it to a Church that was in love with my Real Hammond B3 + Leslie. This will work for my Studio. Yes - The IK Leslie is what sold me the most. I bought it a couple of years ago for my Electric Guitar - sorry, Reverend. Sounds amazing. Up until now I did not like any of the Leslie Simulators. The signal is extremely complex. But IK got it right. Two thumbs up to you guys - and Merry Christmas to you!
Excellent review and demonstration. I have the Native Instruments B4 II, VB3, B-5 Organ V2, DB-33 & IK Hammond B-3X. The Hammond B-3X is hands down the best of all the others I own or any of the others I've head out on the open market. If you don't have a real B3 for whatever reason, this is as close to the real deal as it gets in my humble opinion. My go-to B3 in my studio ever since I got it! Thanks again for the demonstration. Very nice playin' my brother! Merry Christmas
First time watching a video of yours! I was vibin' bro! I just got this software and was looking for a quick overview. You nailed it! Thank you, good sir!
Wow that's great you involved Will too! He seems a great keyboard player too! That's an amazing piece, thanks for such a detailed review! Congrats for hitting 20k
Discovered John Mike videos today. I'm not a keys player, just a mere guitarist. What has always drawn me into a piece of music was always the Organ. I heard Time is Tight and Green Onions when they were new. LOL These videos are great. I get to hear fine organ sounds. Deep and rich. The Leslie has been a strong part of the appeal. You Gentlemen are the best. Thank you.
Just needs the pedals going with the chords. The B-3X is on sale for $179 until the end of the month. Seriously considering buying although I have the Nord C2D. I think I can do a lot more with B-3X in terms of recording.
Waiting to get my LESLIE 122H heritage to pair with my Hammond XK5 pro series organ system. I have a Leslie 3300. But they brought back the lower Wooden rotor in the 122 H series
Anyone still looking for a good MIDI controller for this I’d recommend NOT a specific MIDI controller but the Hammond XK-1 organ. You can now get them reasonably cheap and all the buttons and drawbars are automatically mapped to the B3-X app. It has decent waterfall keybed plus it’s an easy excellent clonewheel organ in and of itself (Leslie not that great of though).
This is pretty good. I'd like to see it scream one time with all bars out and how they handled the lower register. For physical modeling, this is pretty good. For my personal taste, it was a little soft sounding when you first started it up, but I could hear with decent tweaking that it can get very realistic with a room reverb, eq, and lots more saturation. Cant wait to hear the shootout. They definitely got the leslie right and the tones have lots of low mid body which is essential.
hello thanks for helping with your knowledge, i wanted to tell you that i have a Korg Kronos 88 and i bought the software hammond B3x. my problem is that i dont know how to make the corresponding connections and if you knew how to do it or if you could recommended a tutorial that explains step by step how to make the connection, thank you very much
I think people tend to perseverate too much on these plugins before they buy one and get caught up in having to decide on the "best" one. Or maybe that's just me projecting as I know I tend to do that. Honestly once you hit a certain price point/tier threshold, let's say REAL sampled plugins vs free synthesized ones, they all sound very similar in quality and realism, and you really aren't going to tell any weaknesses once you play them in your mix. I mean, really... Would you be able to tell these minute differences in a SONG? Or would a stranger listen to it and say, "Gee, what's with the fake Hammond? Is that a plugin 😂"? Probly not. And you can always alter your tone with mixing/mastering and effects to your liking, so it all really blends together. I'd say if a plugin is real samples-based and it's from a major reputable brand, it's quality enough for a professional sounding nix. Don't overthink.
That particular Chorus pedal was used by Tony Banks in Genesis and is very important for recreating that sound. You have to turn the Leslie off and use the Chorus for the slow effect as he did not run his organ through a Leslie. So that's what that is for. People who want that Genesis sound. You can hear it easily in the song "Follow you, follow me" which was a big hit for them and often played at weddings. (It was at mine.)
I'm considering getting the iPad version of this program but I was wondering if there was a midi keyboard you'd recommend to get as close as possible to that hamond keybed feel? Any keyboard with assignable drawbars would be a plus! but just wanted to get your opinion on this before I purchase, thank you for all you do, your videos are great!
Go to the settings and right click on the Control you’d like to map and then go down to “learn” in the menu that pops up. It will ask you to move the knob/slider you’d like to control for each function.
Help !! The app isn’t working when paired my M-Audio Keystation. Works on iPad but ignores my controller even when it’s selected in Channels. I have no idea what to do 😢
Excellent review! Regarding the comment that the Leslie is the thing that makes this emulation; is it worth the upgrade for someone using Logic Vintage B3 Organ with IK Tracks Leslie?
Hi! What do you guys think of the "new" Universal Audio Waterfall B3? Would love to hear your take on it. It's being praised online as the best emulation now.
Dope review! It sounds really but that GSi VB3 sounds better for the price lol. The sound comparison might change my mind. Also just a quick suggestion, could you make a short little track that you could add to the end of the video to see how it will sound in a mix? I've heard some dope organs alone but they don't fit in the mix.
As soon as I saw Will's T-shirt, I just kept reading it as Digital Audio Workstation Gangsta, yup I love recording :) Seriously, this vid was awesome and sounds incredible
Are the inputs overloading? What's up with the distorted sound? (please don't tell me that's simulated leslie distortion. If so it ain't right). ADD: Also, check your system resources while it's running. Whoa, I don't think it should be eating up that much. It's insane, and that's minus the stomp and post fx (off). Has to be a bug. These two items need to be fixed. Otherwise can be good. Not quite as convincing as B5 V2 (and that's $79 btw. C'mon IK). side note: Baby face Willette used the 'Vibrato 1-3'
JDHammondman , that’s exactly what it is - modeled distortion. And modeled crosstalk. Definitely by intention. I have GG Audio’s Blue B-3X emulator and it is exactly the same way.
We used stomp pedals on both my Rhodes and Mr. Hayes's organs! Probably not great for those full chords but more for one key high key holds and major dominant 7th chords and playing with the leslie to blend and create separation from the distorted guitars..
What makes a Hammond awesome is the foot pedals. this is an expensive VST , and none of these companies have provided a viable solution. why should we have to buy another midi instrument just to use the pedal portion? Until then ...I pass, I will use my old NI version. Lets get it together folks its 2020.
With the B3-X 1.3, you can split one keyboard to play pedal+lower and upper manual OR 2 keyboards with either the Upper manual OR the lower manual split to also play the pedals.
Bro u can program it to run to different keyboards and midi bass pedals. Cc 1 is one keyboard cc2 another keyboard cc3 bass pedals so its like a real console. I use it on ipad

The PC/Mac version drops that low? That’s cheaper than the iPAD version, which is sitting at $130 bones.

I just got the whole IK studio max 3.5 for $166. Had to post this.

A Q for Will. As an organ player, (I'm not but trying to learn) which 61 key controller is best suited for virtual Hammond use in terms of feel?
It would be nice if you could do a comparison with Halion Model-C with pedal board. They have a Gospel preset to try out.

Good point, although playability is also an important factor. Some instruments can be shitty to play even though the samples are nice.

what kind of MIDI controller would be ideal for this software?
same question
You need Fatar TP 8S keybed.
Nice! Would this software work with midi bass pedals connected with the midi controller so l can get the full organ sound?
Yup
Thanks John Mike.
