  • Rambling thoughts! Inspired by a playlist of the top rock songs of 1979, my take on the late 70’s rock and roll bands, including The Clash, and why they retain credibility to this day, even after becoming huge and playing stadiums in 1983. While for most of the hair bands of the 80’s the only priority was to be mega huge and play stadiums instantly. But without credibility and songs it will never last.

Just had an incredible idea. Well, at least I think it is. I'd love for you to put a setlist/playlist together of songs from each year. Start around 77 or even 75. It was an incredible time for music. Early Aerosmith (on drugs). Prefer their tunes much more then than when they were sober or somewhat sober. It was simply better material. Frampton Comes Alive... hardly anyone talks about it anymore. Loved REO with Gary Richrath. He was an awesome guitar slinger but hardly anyone thinks of him because of the REO ballads. Keep Pushin On..... (I'm singing)! My favorite, early AC/DC with Bon. Oh my, that's some good stuff. I'm trying to remember my early concerts. Then obviously it turned into the Ratt, Crue & Poison era. Saw Bon Jovi open for Ratt. Richie was fantastic. Just heard he might hook up with Jon for more tour dates. IMHO, Jon has become a pompus greedy a$$. He owes thousands of people refunds for his horrendous last tour. He knew he couldn't sing. He knows Richie can sing. I'm sure he wants him to take over the majority of singing. Love Richie... Jon not so much.
TBH, I got spoiled. One of my best friends worked in a shop in a concert/convention venue. She got to know the ladies that worked at Ticketmaster really well. They'd hold tickets for us. Yes, we paid for them. I had many front row seats. Before that really pisses people off, I did stay up all night in many, many lines to buy tickets prior to this help. Don't think people realize how we had to buy tickets. Wasn't any of this call in or definitely not computer sales. We had to wait in line & it was usually at the main Ticketmaster location. Many times, they'd be printed right there on site. Yes, I'm very thankful for those ladies help. I appreciated it. Those kind of deals have always gone on. It's even worse (much worse) today. Buying tickets is not fair at all. It's all about who has the most cash. Laminates are a joke. They're now a cheaply made souvener. Also, the sticky slap on kind are probably gone. Oh, there's one band that sticks out in my mind that really liked young(er) girls. It's out in the open now that this lead singer really liked young(er) girls. Kind of creepy actually!
Yes, please do a set list by year. That would be incredible. Enjoy your videos!

    Great segment AS ALWAYS!
My point about Van Halen: When it comes to having BOTH the best cake AND the best icing... think about it... nobody tops VH.

I like that you mentioned Motley and RATT. Both bands came into the scene like animals (maybe more Motley) and their success sort of built a templete/ how to for the whole 80's scene. Both were also somewhat original in they're style, yet clearly based on influences, but Guns just felt incredibly original and right in the middle of that copy cat era. Thanks for sharing as always.

Van Halen HAS to be mentioned among (if not above) these bands.

Sounds like your talking about LA Guns when talking about guys wanting to be doing stadiums right away. To me it always felt as though Tracii wanted instant gratification. Don't get me wrong they were great and Tracii was the best guitarist to come out of the 80s. Slash is great but Tracii was a technician. That said Tracii was his own worst enemy a toughest critic. I don't know him but I did meet him a few times and I just got that ego thing from him.

I think GnR welcome to the jungle was right up there what Boston did with their debut LP back in 1976
