BON JOVI! Was BJ a hair band or no? I say yes! They were the hair band blueprint! Tune in for more!

I grew up in Philadelphia and I remember when Bon Jovi New Jersey came out. Anybody who lives in Philly knows the term “down the shore“. You couldn’t walk 2 feet at that time and not see Bon Jovi stuff plastered everywhere all over the boardwalk I mean every single store had Bon Jovi this Bon Jovi that. Of course they were a hometown band in NJ, but it was everywhere. Even those little amusement games where you would pop the balloons and win a prize you would win those old mirror type pictures of bands at the time.

When I first heard that first Bon Jovi I loved it. We thought of them like Bryan Adams or Foreigner. Because didn't know what they looked like for another year. Soon as we saw living on a prayer they got put in with Whitesnake and Europe.

I only remember seening one article about them before they exploded. Maybe it was all black and white, maybe Metaledge. They stopped at Jon's family home while they kicked off they're tour and got on a bus.
Jon did his amazing hair and wrote "left" and "Right" on his chuck tayors. But everyone was in jeans and t shirts. Sitting on the porch and lawn chairs. No glam at all.
I had to remember I heard them before.
I don't care how much they hated them, my punk and thrash friends stopped dead in their tracks and watch that whole video. They uped everything to the point GnR had to blow it all up.

Best Bon Jovi album was the '84 debut. They came out strong with solid songs & all the ingredients already there. Sure 'Slippery When Wet' is the album that put them on the map forever, but it really hasn't aged well. It was a cultural zeitgeist moment where they were just in the right place at the right time. But I gave up after '7800° Fahrenheit', which wasn't as good as the debut overall. You're right the NJ scene looked the most feminine of all the glam bands, with lots of sequins & tassels. Never cool 😂 But the ladies loved them! Biggest surprise of all, the one who scored all the groupies was not Jon who was married & faithful, or even Richie Sambora. It was keyboardist David Bryan (Rashbaum), who's apparently hung like Yora... True story!

It is interesting how Bon Jovi gets no... street cred. It's hard to describe. It's like he represents "happy rock". "Wholesome rock". Livin' on a Prayer. Did they hate the way Bon Jovi dressed? I guess Crue would be mad. I mean, Crue went all in and had those outfits made. Bon Jovi got whatever crazy spandex and colorful scarves could be found in some trendy women's store and went with it. 😂😂😂
I listened to an Eddie Trunk show and they were all in their feelings over Bon Jovi getting inducted into RRHOF. Say what you want, Jon was serious about delivering musically.
I giggled when you talked about all the girls being after Jon. So much is made of his being a devoted family man. He seems like a really upstanding guy. Truly. But when I hear "faithful husband" I'm just like - THAT GUY??????? THAT guy. Mmmmmmmkeeeeee. 😂😂😂😂😂

Slippery was, indeed full-on hair metal. But by New Jersey, the whole band had dropped it, with only the long hair still remaining. But they kept knocking those songs out of the park. It didn't matter what the taste of the moment was, Jon knows how to write a song that comes from the heart and moves everyone.

New Jersey was as hair metal as anything else. Of course they used less glam imagery as did their peers Poison, Warrant, Motley Crue, etc.. they all got away from the glam stylings but they were still pushing the same overblown arena rock music they always did and I loved it

I always considered Bon Jovi a hair metal band. I believe the band was smart enough not to dive too deep into the glam image with the lipstick and chick clothes. They were right on the edge - which may be a reason the band was given life through the 90s and 2000s. Today, 59 year old women are their bread and butter. Good for them… it keeps the band from having to play rib burn-offs and pumpkin festivals.
I’ll admit, I like some of the first record and most of Slippery When Wet. If I’m ever listening to it in my car, I’m definitely turning it down at a red light. That band is beyond uncool.

Bon Jovi‘s first record is a really good rock record, unfortunately it was their only rock record. They followed it up with one of the worst albums I’ve ever heard. I’m surprised they were still around to even release Slippery, I thought the record company would have dropped them after that second piece of crap.

All the way 80s hair band. Same songs without the looks, how big is Bon Jovi ? I think no matter what the songs would have been MEGA hits.

Was Bon Jovi a hair band? Let’s examine it. Yeah New Jersey and Slippery sold a butt ton of records but what was Jon REALLY known for? His hair. Did anybody freak out when Joe Elliot cut his hair? Did anybody notice when Nikki cut his hair? Did anybody even give a shit when Klaus Meine……never mind, bad example.😆But when Jon cut his hair for Keep The Faith it literally made headlines. Therefore yeah Bon Jovi might have transcended the genre but they were not just a hair band they were THEE hair band. Just my opinion.🤷‍♂️

as much as overrated jon tries to rewrite history bon jovi is a hair band, go back watch his videos especially from his 7800 fahreineit era they were 100 percent a hair band.

Out of all the rock bands, Bon Jovi is the maybe most overrated imo. A few catchy hits and they sold lots of records. Can’t knock success but their music lacked grit and heart and the heaviest thing Jon ever did was drop a deuce in the bathroom

    • @beforeiforget1985
      @beforeiforget1985  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

It was all about the songs, his fave and the timing, but if they didn’t have the songs, it never would have happened. But yes they had no grit at all, totally a band for the chicks. But the songs made them huge. Thanks for watching!

@@beforeiforget1985 thanks for the videos! I don’t know, other “hair bands” just had some more soul to their music. When “Bad Medicine” or “Blaze of Glory” comes on, I’ll rock out but Jon himself I think is just too hard to like for me. Keep up the content!
