- What started out as a cheap GovDeals buy, quickly got expensive and time consuming. So why not trade it for another expensive time consuming project? I have my reasons, see if you agree

A mustang and a 390 go together like peanut butter and jelly... Just throwing it out there!
Oh so very true. Even a 351 has a lot of snap in that little car. But I think we are going the 289/302 route
That sounds like a good project for you and the youngin.
Yeah, I think it will be.
Father Daughter project sounds like a blast
Should be fun for sure
I think you got the better end of that trade, the mustang looks pretty solid. The passenger side panel in the engine compartment that's damaged is readily available and easy to change.
That guy has some skills on that tractor, didn't look fun dragging that out, lol
It's kinda hard to tell in the video, but it was starting to rain and that southern red clay is as slick as graphite. 😄
Smart= getting rid of a dead end project
Smart= getting a solid project in return!
Super Smart= Being able to do a project with your kids!!
Win Win👍👍
Thanks! My thoughts exactly. Thanks for watching
Your one lucky dad I wish my daughter would come help me with my project pickup but no dice I think its going to be something she well remember forever ❤thank u for sharing your time and entertainment with me and other viewers we appreciate as do I buddy . Please keep them comming
I hope she wants to work on it. She has a busy life now.
@@flatbrokegarage I hope she does for u buddy any dad deserves that the ones that give a damn anyway like yourself I hope u and the mrses have a awesome killer weekend
Just lay a guilt trip on her. You still stand more a chance, my 17 year old son wont even pick up a screwdriver. So the hobby is going away fastly. And I didn't have a dad so I got my own self interested buying my first car. 86 Olds cutlass supreme😂, for whatever that means Sadly. @@flatbrokegarage
And they say antifreeze and oil don’t mix, they just weren’t trying hard enough
That was some weird looking goop
Great project car. I've been looking for something like that. Love the older Mustangs.
I think he has 5 more there. They are definitely projects though
Great video Brotha!!
Thanks! Another project on the way I guess 😄
that looks like a winner!!!
I think I did well
Good start on the Mustang!
It seems like a good beginning
Here for support
Awesome! I'll need a lot 😁 thanks for watching!
Awesome trade Brother!
I'm in the Mustang club now
@@flatbrokegarage heck yeah! I’ll bring the Fastback down for some 68 fun
Loving on them Mustangs and that is a solid specimen. Looking forward to seeing more videos about it.
So glad you enjoyed it! I have a couple more up now. Little bad news on the last one, buy we will get through it. Thanks for watching!
Okay, I approve. You did well with this trade, I feel. I look forward to watching more!
Thanks! A lot more coming
Awesome deal, way better with that Stang, then that van, and cool your doing it with the kid's 😊 I'll be watching 👀 🍻🇦🇺👊👍❤
I think so too. My daughter is excited about this car
@flatbrokegarage awesome hope she can devote the time with you both, memories for ever there 🍻🇦🇺👍😉
I hope so too. She lives an hour and a half away, il sure it will work out.
He he. That’s a new for me. Never seen oil like that. That mustang looks like a nice project.
Yeah, I think I got pretty lucky
Great car great decision. What a find. Congratulations. Tony Brisbane Australia 🦘🦘🦘
Thanks! I think it's going to be a fun project. Is the many mustangs down under?
From one pile of work to another pile of work, seems like a fair trade, depends on what parts you have on the shelf.
I actually have a 289 in my shop. It's tired. I may also trade a car I'm not doing anything with for a good donor car. So I may have some low buck options to get it back on the road.
@@flatbrokegarageYou are on your way.
@@smarternu yep, it should be a good driver if I do a transplant
Nice 👍
Thanks!
Good trade.
Thanks!
Looks like it's workable.
Better than most I've owned
A lot better than most I've owned
You did a great thing trading I just hope your daughter jumps in and you both work together on it
She is very excited. It should be fun
Good trade
I think so too
You definitely made out like a bandit on that trade.
I sure did, I'm so happy it's a solid car
Good decision. I hope your daughter takes you up on your offer.
Me too! She Saud she's come out this weekend to see it in person.
A dead plumber’s van swap for a pre ‘71 Mustang? Sign me up!
Best day ever.
At 13:14 I saw another ‘67 or ‘68 Mustang on the left side of the picture so there’s a parts source for ya’! Nice trade!
Thanks! I had an eye on it, too. He actually has 7 more there. This one looked to be the best and easiest to get out. I'd like to get one for myself maybeafteri get my daughter'sall set. Thanks for watching! .
I love seeing cars rolling out of a junkyard with future plans to drive it again. A Father Daughter project…. Even better. I think you definitely scored with this Mustang. Thank you! And WOW. wtf did you drain out of that diesel? 😳
I know! Right? That's some crazy shit that came out of that engine. I probably could have got the van running again. I just didn't want to invest the time and money. I can buy an 90s van anywhere. Clean mustang is hard to find.
It looks like you have a another total restoration on your hands the plus is it is a mustang and looks to be pretty much rust free!
The total part will fall on my daughter. I just want to make it safe and dependable. Shiny is on her
I love Mustangs and Crown Victoria's so I think you did Great. I have a 92 Crown Victoria LX that I am slowly building it has almost every option very solid.
I had an 89 Crown vic. That thing was built proof. I loved that car
Solid car. That 6.5 must have grenaded.
You got that right! Major failure on the diesel. I think the mustang is a good find
Just another step in life road of projects. You may end up training a mustang for another project? I know the van was supposed to be more functional but this mustang 🐎 looks like more fun. A lot of work! How about a 4.6 out of an old Crown Vic police 🚨 interceptor? Just an idea.
I'm looking into my options. I have a 289 in the shop, it's tired. I can trade another car I own for a donor car with a 302, C4 and disc brakes that runs well, buy a crown vic, or just get a crate motor
@@flatbrokegarage I was never a fan of spending the money for a crate motor. By the way good morning cuz how's your way it's about 6:40 a.m. I think. A year ago I had the perfect donor car for you. It was out in Kansas about South central. Beautiful red car white interior and he offered it to me for $800. It was running and kind of driving. They tried to use it for imitating a sardine can. They rolled back at front fender on the passenger side. The torque are pretty good but it could be built. Everything was solid where they normally rushed out. And he is a Ford guy but he hates mustangs. My wife's mustangs at 66. Nothing with any change so I did not bother. I was going to buy it and he sold it out from underneath me. For some reason he thought I didn't want it anymore. The moral of the story is whatever you want to make it. Is extremely low mileage and original with a V8. He did sell for twice what he offered it to me for. He sold it for about twice as much, But still cheap. I did not need another project. But hey when does it stop a car guy. I'm looking forward to what you do with this mustang.
Check out the No bolts left behind TH-cam build on his mustang, Explorer swap, that’s what I suggested to him and he did a great job
I'll check it out for sure! I have a few different avenues I can go. I have in my shop a 289 out of a mustang, but it's tired, or donor car like a good running 82 Granada or 90 crown vic. I'll have to see.
What's up Mr Flat broke? 😊
Livin the dream! Hope ya like the video
heck yeah man!
We are mustang brothers now 😁
@@flatbrokegarage welcome to the darkside :)
@ID10TGARAGE much cheaper than Torino parts
@@flatbrokegarage yeah that is very true
Definitely Time to Thin Out The Herd .
For sure, want to buy a cutlass? 😃
@@flatbrokegarage Nah I will pass thanks 👍
😁
Hey Bill, I'm guessing some kind of additive was added...you know, "mechanic in a can" type stuff.
Sure turned oil to jelly 😁
I bet it was a Vinyl Top Car and it was good it was removed.
Probably was, I going to rum a Marti report on it.
@@flatbrokegarage good idea 💡
On that Chevy, I have seen the same thing when an engine has the orange antifreeze and blows a head gasket, for some reason that orange antifreeze when it mixes with non- synthetic oil it make like a sludge tar substance. I bet that 6.5 blew a head gasket or cracked a head
I was wondering that about the antifreeze. I've never really worked with the orange stuff
Who wouldn't trade a pile of gm junk for a solid Mustang project?
Ya gotta love e a 60s stang. Thanks for watching
You would had to put a ton of cash into a box van that's worth $7,500 on its best day. At least you will have a clean Mustang that is worth a whole lot more once done! '68 Mustang with original solid floors or a box van is not a hard decision...Na Doy!!!
Ya, I'm pretty happy with the stang
Wow you scored on that stang build it to the nuts 302 4 speed
Thanks! I'm really happy with how solid it is! I have a 289 in my shop, but it's tired. My buddy wants to trade me a low mile Granada with a 302, C4 disc brake car for another car I have. Be a good doner car with no cash output
@@flatbrokegarage I would go for that 302 good motors and do a low budget rebuild on it would love to see that. I am a Chevy fan but hey all the old cars are worth saving they are all slowly disappearing
@tomcooney1584 I totally agree. My daily driver is a 2500 Chevy pickup. I absolutely love, and I had a 1500 before that. So I guess I appreciate them all. That being said, a 90s Chevy van is still pretty easy to come by, and a clean Mustang is getting scarce. It think 289/302 is going in it.
@@flatbrokegarage excellent I can't wait to see it driving down the road good luck and I will be watching!
When is your next video coming out?
I'd much rather fix up an old car than a diesel box van. Good move. I might have a bumper for you. It maybe be off a '66 and back though.
Me too
I hope you and your daughter do the Mustang.Glad you didn't keep the g.M piece of junk and got a really good mustang to work
Yeah, I think it's a very good starting point. Easy to make a daily driver out of till she has enough cash to restore it.
Just make sure she drives safely
For sure! Follow along, lot of improvements coming
It does appear to be solid but do you really need another ( project) ?
No... I really don't 😁
Excellent trade!!!! Anytime you can get rid of a Chevy and get a Ford is a great deal!!!!! Lol
😄 and a 90s chevy van is not hard to find if I want another one. Solid 60s mustangs are getting scarce
Funny how a decrepit Mustang that needs everything is considered less of a project than a 29k van that just needs a quick engine replacement. I may be biased since I love diesel Chevy vans!
Well you asked for an opinion on what we thought of your decision I hope you're ready for it. It doesn't really make a whole lot of sense to me to trade a perfectly good utility vehicle that runs and drives kind of and can be registered very easily for a pile of crap Mustang from a junkyard that doesn't run probably hasn't been registered in Forever and besides all that I've always kind of thought of the Mustang as a woman's car so I guess it's kind of fitting that it's a father-daughter project. Well you asked for it you got it that's my opinion if any feelings got hurt just remember I don't care.
No hurt feelings here. I worked road construction for over 30 years, kinda have a thick hide, and actually appreciate your honesty. I can see where your coming from.
Sorry about that van but I think the Mustang is a better project! Parts will be easier to find.
I agree, my heart just wasn't in the van after I found out it was ex-military. No air conditioning, no cruise or power anything. Not something I want to toss a bunch of money into. Thanks for watching!
Any time you can swop a gm vehicle for anything you dun good!
😆 I was glad to see that van go
@@flatbrokegarage Wasn't Van Gogh a Dutch painter?
@cutworm59 indeed 😆
Did all the glow plugs have sludge come out??? The sludge is not antifreeze and oil, it looks more like diesel fuel and oil. I suspect an injector hung open. Love those diesels,. The 6.5 had an issue with cracks in the heads between the valves. too little meat there. I suspect that engine would run, just needs cleaned out and have the injectors checked. I would tear it part and check it first.
Yep. Every cylinder was placked. The sad part is it's a 29k engine. It was owned by the airforce before given to the county. Unfortunately I believe this engine idled for most of its life. There was no hour meter on it, but I'm guessing it was sitting all it's life. Not good for a diesel.
So are you saying that thick tar oil is the result of a chemical reaction between diesel and engine oil? Something I’ve never seem but I’m only a diy mechanic.
@@chrisnorris532 Searching for a reason, exploring possible jelled diluted diesel mixed with oil because we know it is not coolant and oil, but the response was all 8 holes so not an injector hanging open. Something odd happened. I would need to see it and get more history to support any conclusions.
Someone else mentioned it could be the orange antifreeze mixing with nonsynthetic oil. I've never messed with the orange stuff. That being said the goo was everywhere, even in the exhaust system.
From what the mechanic told me at the county shop was it ran but was making noise in the lower end. They said it belonged to the airforce and probably idled its entire life 29k miles. I'm not sure, I've never seen anything like this before
Yeah mustang looks decent to start off van was cooked made the right choice
Me too, a 90s van I can still pickup anywhere, clean mustangs are getting scarce
Good shape for the shape it's in?
I think so
Oil cooler went bad ?
Must have that oil went everywhere. I've never seen one do that
Seems like what's left of a stolen vehicle 🤷
Lucky I have a title
6.5 diesel is a bad motor even when its running good 😂
That's what everyone is telling me. I've never owned one before.
I like mustang better
You and me both
