@@flatbrokegarage so right, as I cruise the FB marketplace when I find an old six banger I am interested. When it has been swapped out( usually poorly done) I loose interest. When I was a young buckaroo I wanted big power. I now appreciate how well the cheapest entry modest models performed. And they were reliable and good value. My grandparents both were six banger folks. I am now a gimpy 77 and can no longer turn wrenches so I live in your efforts.have a great day
Amen, man. I bought a 1975 Nova to daily. It has a tiny 262 v8,and I have no intention of changing it out. Good mileage, fires off every time, still runs at freeway speeds when needed.
Good to see you rebuild that little six instead of dropping a 302 into it, like most people would seem to do! Those base model 4 door cars like that were very common when I was a little kid in the 1970s and they were all those little six cylinders just like that. It’s nice to finally hear that little tickety-tap six cylinder sound coming out of one of these base cars instead of the V8 vroom-vroom; just like it came from the factory and just like I remember them! Many of the people who bought the base cars new were often older, retire folks. Unlike retirees today, those people had lived through the Great Depression and were very thrifty with their limited incomes. The didn’t drive far or often, so these cars didn’t rack up tons of miles and often spent most of their lives in garages. By looks of it, your car was probably babied for many years by it’s original owner, before it’s luck ran out when it finally got sold off to less caring second hand owners, used and abused a little until it found it’s way into the yard. It’s good to finally see these cars appreciated for more than parts for sportier models! In my humble opinion, these cheapie models always seem to give less problems than their higher performance or sportier brothers! Maybe because they were never abused or because of their simplicity, but it seems like if you take good care of them, they’ll take good care of you! Nice work!
Thanks! I guess I have a soft spot for this underrated little car. I'm am restoring it's big brother a 71 Torino GT. I love it too, however after learning the history of it I had to keep it alive and running just as it came from the factory. I'm the 3rd owner (other than the yard) and plan on keeping it. Thanks for watching!
My first engine rebuild was a Ford 200 6 cyl for a Fairmont. brings back lots of great memories! I learned the 250 used the V8 bellhousing pattern the hard way in bringing one home from the Junkyard in hopes of installing it in place of a 200 in a fox mustang. oh well. good times.
Hopefully now you will have a million miles of fun just getting out and driving it now and I'm glad you got parts for the mustang should make another awesome video seeing you and her turning wrenches and just having fun
Thanks! I figured almost everything I own is V8 powered. This thing is so original it had to stay that way. Just a nice dependable daily driver is what I'm looking for.
The video editing is pretty darn good for being flat broke. Im not sure why you dont have double the subs 🤔 😂 we just need more video drops each week. Cheers from ohio
Why thank you. I shoot for one every 2 weeks. Sometimes more, I'm not very good at the editing thing, but still i hate some videos that look rushed, so it takes me a while. We will get there. Thanks so much for your support
Glad you hung in there. I don't know why, I guess I just really like this car. Probably invested more than it's worth, but I'm planning on driving it everywhere. Even back to the dealership that sold it new (St Louis)
Down here in Australia ,Ford made their own engines and they evolved into the turbo Barra engine . But during this cycle they redesigned the head so it has a seperate intake manifold . I knew a guy who made a tidy profit selling those heads to overseas buyers on ebay . There were even after market intakes available 😊
My engine builder told me about the Ausie 6 cylinder heads and intakes. Great idea, but a little pricey 😆 Check out my buddy's channel hotrod guy garage. He is building a turbo charged 300 6 cylinder. Thanks for watching!
One small step for TH-cam viewers. One big step for flat broke garage! I'm glad with the engine we did not hear that famous phrase. NASA we have a problem....
One or 2 mistakes on my end, nothing major. The protronix quit working shortly after I finished filming this, but put the points back and we are ready to roll
@@flatbrokegarage oh I was not pointing out any mistakes. I think the car looks great with the work that you have done. As viewers just come along for the ride. It takes a lot of work on your part to get the car from where it was, to where it now is.
I put a new motor in and clutch in an old chevy one day. It went very smooth and quick. As I was cleaning up I found the throw out bearing still in the box......
Very nice looking engine now that it has been rebuilt no more freeze plug problems with that. Nice running engine and those pesky heater cores do it to you every time had that happen to me more than once.
The engine looks really cool I know you'll be glad to drive it again don't feel bad about forgetting that shim plate I did the same thing on a ford arrow star after replacing the transmission except I didn't realize it till after the van was all together and I was taking the jack stands out

I've had a few pistons cars. I like them they are different. There is a clean 65 comet shell at my buddy's yard I keep looking at. I havevto say no... 😆
Very pretty.. When we rebuilt the 425 in my Wildcat, well, mistakes were made. Sent wrong crankshaft bearings, destroyed the crankshaft. How good is that, not. :( I am not much of a shiny guy either, until I caught myself spray painting the insides of the ashtrays chrome. Oops, I guess I am. ;)
I really like the car. I'm interested in some of the Volkswagen bugs at the junkyard where you got that car. Also I've been watching for a while now and I'm one of your subscribers. The channel is definitely getting better. Ready to see the torino up and going. Keep up the good work. You'll get there.
That is one of the most attractive four door car I believe has been made!
It really is, still has most of the 2 door lines
Love the body lines on this classic. Thank you for bringing it back to life
Thank you for watching, I appreciate it
A Senior neighbor had one just like this one along with a 57 Bel Air 4 Door hardtop both were bought new.
How cool, the original owner guys are fading away. It's nice to get the entire story of it. Hard when it's had 3 to 4 owners. Thanks for watching!
I am enjoy this everymans fix. And going back near stock for a daily driver. Sick of LS swaps
I totally get it. Pretty soon a six cylinder will bring more at an auction than an replaced engine. Original is fading away.

That PVC coupling as a seal driver is genius.

I'm so right with you. 😆 I just call them learning moments
With that new interior must smell like a brand new car inside such a good job but a big challenging task proud of you
Funny thing about the car interior. It totally smells like 1970 if that makes any sense? It reminds me of my childhood riding to school in my moms car

I'm truly looking forward to it. Just fun hanging with my daughter. Even if the car doesn't work out perfectly
Another idea...The hinges put some rust converter on it it turns them black but the paint you didlooks ok
I tried on one of them, looked kinda weird. Was still better than the paint, wish I didn't do it 😄
Good job putting a six cylinder in your falcon also I like your Mercury Comet
Thanks! We have owned the Comet over 12 years now. She's not pretty, but she's a runner.
Another great use for pvc 😊
