~ Greatest Moment Of My Life Was Meeting Gary Rossington *
It was an experience i will Never Forget ..
I was backstage at a SKYNYRD Show in 2017 here in Southern California, and i was wearing an old SHOWCO shirt, Gary walked up, shook hands with me, placed his left hand on my chest, right on the SHOWCO logo, looked at me and said: That’s Sum Good Stuff Right Thar ~
    I Was Blown Away ..!

When we go down to Jacksonville to visit relatives, I always make it a point to drive south into Middleberg, and drive slowly down Brickyard Road (where Ronnie Van Zant lived), and then wrap up the day at Whitey's Fish Camp (one of Ronnie's favorite hangouts). After all these years, I still get an eerie feeling that I'm retracing some of the same steps LS took.

I went to St John River Community College in Palatka in the early to mid 70s. In the morning the students from Clay County around Green Cove would come in the student center and sometimes have stories about what was going on down at the Hell House. I don't remember it being called that back then but I knew they were rehearsing in a shack.

Ronnie wrote the words to Freebird on that creek. Well he memorized the words because Ronnie wrote songs in his head and never wrote anything down. I met Billy Powell and he was the nicest guy. Very humble. He told me how Freebird got him from a roadie to a band member. He also told me Ronnie had no injuries from his neck down. He died from trauma to the head.

The photo at 3:39 from left to right, Ed King, Leon Wilkson, Billy Powell, Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington, Allen Collins and Artimus Pyle. Sadly only Gary and Artimus are still alive. I miss old Ed, congestive heart failure plagued him for years, he wanted to play drums but his mom saved up enough money and bought him a dime store classical guitar instead because it made less noise, the rest is history.. He did love his BBQ though.

We were on motorcycles so no doubt drew a lot of attention to ourselves. We didn’t stay long. My guess is someone would have approached us if we hung too long.

That's what I never understood is why the Hell House wasn't preserved in anyway. Or why wasn't it deemed a historical thing for the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd. They have a plaque and everything in front of the child hood home of Ronnie's so why not this place. We're loosing a lot of are historical things from the past this is one great example of it. This truly should've been preserved and the old dock where the fished . Do you know how many songs were written on that old dock and in that house I mean if everything around there could talk could you imagine the stories that could be told. Hell the new songs that could be written from there. We' ll never know now and it's a shame it really is. Long Live The Lynyrd Skynyrd Band and Southern Rock.

Many big name musicians played there, Hendrix, etc. We performed there a few times, one of the dressing rooms was covered in signatures. No one thought to dismantle the room prior to tear down !

I’m building a guitar from wood from the Hell House original Dock, and foundation from Hell House, and incorporating metal from the plane. Once it’s complete we will loan it out to touring musicians so those timber’s will continue to sing and vibrate. LLLS.
    Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd.
