But Larry David and David Mitchell don't even do stand up, and Sean Locke isn't all that great on stage. But Chapelle man, he's a true master, for sure.

Now I am happier than ever that I get to see one of my heroes become free and successful at the same time it happens, with all his fans with me. Its the best.

Four Netflix specials in the space of one year. All of them unique. All of them with their own themes and vibes. All of them hilarious. Dave Chappelle isn’t a comedian, he’s just naturally funny. Any moment of his life, he can make you laugh about it, no matter how fucked up it is. That’s pure raw talent, you can’t work on that and make it better. He’s the most naturally funny person ever.
Jerry Graves oh yea, not diminishing the work he put in. Anybody who made money off of comedy, put work in all the holes no one wants to go. But his standup specials are just as entertaining as his interviews. Or his movie roles. Or his random off the cuff comments. Or his show. His natural ability to be funny makes everything he does a show. I’ve seen interviews where he was darkly serious, and said some of the funniest shit I’ve heard. In his angst, and insecurities, he naturally finds the humor, sometimes without intending to. What he has you can’t work on for years and perfect, you have to be born with that ability. Then take advantage of it. I look at him like a look at a 4 year old who can write a concerto on a piano. You can’t teach that to a 4 year old, they have it, or they don’t. Chappelle was born a Mozart of comedy. I would never diminish the work he put in to make it, I was just saying comedian is kind of limited.
The Ripper his interviews are just as funny as his specials. Him just talking to people is as funny as his standup. A comedian is onstage, with written jokes, reciting a show. Which he does well. But Mencias show was on comedy central all day back then and it was such garbage, his delivery is worse than Aziz fr fr. One of my favorites of all time was Greg Giraldo, if he hadnt died he would be killing it right now he was so funny. He was on the roasts if any one dont know him Id figure most do though. His stand up was brilliant though.

[Spoiler] The Bourdain/friend joke at the beginning was great, but even better is how he lead with that, did the jokes about school shootings around midway, then at the end when he's in line to get into the school dance he said it was the first time he'd ever thought about... and you had to think back and assume he was going to say he thought about killing himself. Instead, and after a classic Dave pause, he said, "I should kill everybody at school." He set the whole thing up from the beginning. It's like if you play euchre and are down to two cards in your hand. They're both aces. You throw the ace of spades and get trumped. No big deal, you have the ace of diamonds for the stopper and are sure nobody has anything but diamonds. Then some motherfucker leads with a 9 or 10 of spades and your ace of diamonds doesn't mean shit. Dave manufactures the situation months in advance where he knows you'll throw the spade and hold onto the diamond. The man is a genius and I'm grateful he exists.
He’s spectacularly good at his craft. One of the best stand up performers ever and this was thoughtful of Joe to highlight Dave Chappelle’s greatness like that
I honestly never thought Dave Chapelle was that great before. Chapelle Show seemed to be a lot of low hanging fruit with generic race humor (with some glimmers of real comedic genius scattered over it). His recent stuff, combined with his history of resisting the P.C. agenda being peddled in media, has elevated him to one of my favorite voices of the generation. Dave Chapelle is an example to all the flimsy comedians out there that lack the backbone to push back. Aziz Anzari’s recent standup being the perfect example of comedians bowing to the pressure and ruining their legacy.
Dave is on another level compared to the rest of the comedic world. He has mastered his craft. He has always been funny but it's not just jokes anymore

Just talking, yeah. Probably. Patrice was just funny to listen to on conversation all the time. And his stand up is great. But Chappelle's is better to me. Though the comparison is tough to when make because Patrice doesn't have near as much footage of him performing. He died right when he was getting it together. He probably would've been funnier if he had lived longer.
C. Morgan I think it’s fair to say that their styles are different. And it depends on your taste to a certain extent. But, personally I can come back to a Patrice O’Neal stand up, or an Opie and Anthony with Patrice and still laugh my ass off. His material just doesn’t get old.

I think that there are three types of comics: 1.The guys who tell one-liners (Hedberg, Steven Wright) that are funny and make you forget your problems, 2.The guys who have something to say (Chappelle, Carlin, Pryor), and 3.The 95% that suck.
Dave is one of the best comics of the last 30 years but early 80s Eddie Murphy is the most natural comic I think I ever saw. Delirious and raw were two of the best shows I ever saw.

I saw Dave Chappelle perform live on 1.20.17, the day before 45’s inauguration. Dave literally did a hilarious hour set and mentioned he’s have a NETFLIX special coming out in a month in NETFLIX. When the special came out I realized he didn’t use 1 joke from that hour he did a month prior. That was amazing to me! The idea that a man could have a hilarious hour of content and produce another 2hrs+ worth of material for another special 🤯

Chappelle does write jokes. They aren’t presented as jokes, they’re disguised, which is a stylistic choice, but he does write and tell jokes.

Delivery is one of the if not the most important thing about standup. It's not about what you say but more so how you say it.

Dave is one of my favorite human beings ever but 20 years ago he made me sick. Everytime I saw him doing stand up I'd change the channel and those watered down movie rolls he had was sickening. How things change. Go Dave ✌

Dave is a fully realized person, GOD given talent...and he wanders, he experiences life without borders. He's everywhere, and then he gets on stage and lets it all go. He is a masterclass in the flesh. Everyone has a Dave Chappelle story, and they are all great.
When Dave does an hour it's a condensed version of 3 hours. That's how he turners over so quickly.

Dave Chappelle isn’t a comedian, he’s just naturally funny.
Any moment of his life, he can make you laugh about it, no matter how fucked up it is. That’s pure raw talent, you can’t work on that and make it better.
He’s the most naturally funny person ever.
Although he probably worked on his craft more than any other comedian. He started getting on stage at 13

But his standup specials are just as entertaining as his interviews. Or his movie roles. Or his random off the cuff comments. Or his show.
His natural ability to be funny makes everything he does a show. I’ve seen interviews where he was darkly serious, and said some of the funniest shit I’ve heard. In his angst, and insecurities, he naturally finds the humor, sometimes without intending to.
What he has you can’t work on for years and perfect, you have to be born with that ability. Then take advantage of it.
I look at him like a look at a 4 year old who can write a concerto on a piano. You can’t teach that to a 4 year old, they have it, or they don’t.
Chappelle was born a Mozart of comedy.

I knew nothing about mencia or that Joe had a podcast until probably 2010ish and I had known Joe from the UFC cuz I started watching in 06 but I didnt know he did comedy and I was a huge fan of stand up. But Mencias show was on comedy central all day back then and it was such garbage, his delivery is worse than Aziz fr fr. One of my favorites of all time was Greg Giraldo, if he hadnt died he would be killing it right now he was so funny. He was on the roasts if any one dont know him Id figure most do though. His stand up was brilliant though.

[Spoiler] The Bourdain/friend joke at the beginning was great, but even better is how he lead with that, did the jokes about school shootings around midway, then at the end when he's in line to get into the school dance he said it was the first time he'd ever thought about... and you had to think back and assume he was going to say he thought about killing himself. Instead, and after a classic Dave pause, he said, "I should kill everybody at school." He set the whole thing up from the beginning. It's like if you play euchre and are down to two cards in your hand. They're both aces. You throw the ace of spades and get trumped. No big deal, you have the ace of diamonds for the stopper and are sure nobody has anything but diamonds. Then some motherfucker leads with a 9 or 10 of spades and your ace of diamonds doesn't mean shit. Dave manufactures the situation months in advance where he knows you'll throw the spade and hold onto the diamond. The man is a genius and I'm grateful he exists.

I honestly never thought Dave Chapelle was that great before. Chapelle Show seemed to be a lot of low hanging fruit with generic race humor (with some glimmers of real comedic genius scattered over it). His recent stuff, combined with his history of resisting the P.C. agenda being peddled in media, has elevated him to one of my favorite voices of the generation.
Dave Chapelle is an example to all the flimsy comedians out there that lack the backbone to push back. Aziz Anzari’s recent standup being the perfect example of comedians bowing to the pressure and ruining their legacy.

Patrice O’neal was probably the only other comedian who could rival Dave. In fact, I think he was funnier.
Just talking, yeah. Probably. Patrice was just funny to listen to on conversation all the time. And his stand up is great. But Chappelle's is better to me. Though the comparison is tough to when make because Patrice doesn't have near as much footage of him performing. He died right when he was getting it together. He probably would've been funnier if he had lived longer.
C. Morgan I think it’s fair to say that their styles are different. And it depends on your taste to a certain extent. But, personally I can come back to a Patrice O’Neal stand up, or an Opie and Anthony with Patrice and still laugh my ass off. His material just doesn’t get old.

Dave Chapelle really isnt well known in the UK
I saw Dave Chappelle perform live on 1.20.17, the day before 45’s inauguration. Dave literally did a hilarious hour set and mentioned he’s have a NETFLIX special coming out in a month in NETFLIX. When the special came out I realized he didn’t use 1 joke from that hour he did a month prior. That was amazing to me! The idea that a man could have a hilarious hour of content and produce another 2hrs+ worth of material for another special 🤯
