      Cool with me. Same as Temu's coupons, I just collect items in my basket (unless I need them quickly), and once I have say 80+ USD in my basket I take advantage of whatever discount they offer me, usually I can get 20-30 USD off which in the case of temu can be something atually usefull, got myself a hamdheld spot welder more or less for free.

    A other reason i could think of for giving free stuff for models is getting people into the eco system. Starters mostly dont design things themself and rely on downloading models. Since a big group of Bambulab users are extremely brand and ecosystem loyal they probably will only download from a Bambu model library. So increasing their library of models they make the brand more attractive thus adding value to the company. By uploading models you basically "work" for bambulab and thus the give you a compensation for it and to convince you to upload more thus increasing their offering and brand value.

    So thank you for this video! Since watching it I've been a busy bee on makerworld, and just earned a 2nd AMS, and a ton of filament. Of course they JUST revamped the system with BOOSTs so we'll see how that goes. But with just one model I made over $600 in $40 gift cards, if I hadn't bought a bunch of filament and plates and the AMS I could have literally bought a whole other printer. I don't like to promote any one brand, though the Bambu printers are really well designed and built. I've just struggled with PETG on them. I've moved my X1C to the basement to free up some space in my shop as well, and so that I can print while I record, printers running while recording are bad for audio-quality.

    • @Immolate62

      @@NeedItMakeIt I print almost exclusively PETG in my P1S, A1's and K1 Max. Bed adhesion can be a pain to clean up, but otherwise they all consistently nail it unless I neglect to clean the bed one too many times. K1 Max can be very sensitive about that (textured PEI) but all of them share that problem. So I've made it a point to wipe the bed after each print with a squirt of Simple Green. I do often print with the K1 door and lid on, and that has not caused a problem with PETG, and I've done that with the P1S sometimes as well, but my lid is always two inches elevated so not the same thing. Maybe with some pressure, Printables will make some changes to be more competitive, but for now, rewarding people for their good work seems like a pretty good idea. When people steal other people's work and remix with little to no effort, that's not such a great part of it. There should be more strict rules on that. I have someone on Creality Print that added "K1" to the part and that was it, but they at least left my logo on it, provided attribution and linked my video.

The final solution was to not post the newer versions of the model, if they want to sell it, they're selling the less functional one.
      What do you think constitutes a good remix? Is there anything in writing that's clear for everyone to see, or is any change at all a remix and I should just get over it?

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NeedItMakeIt I think it depends on the license of the original design. If it was put up as fully open source with no attribution required, people can do whatever they want, even if it is being sold in some form. If it was put up with a non-commercial license, meaning any derivatives should only be personal use and not sold for profit, I don't think any form of remix is acceptable. If commercial licensing is allowed, but only with attribution and modification, then I believe the remix should add, remove, or change a function of the device In order to be sold without issue. Oviously that's a super gray area though. So I think put very simply, non-commercial license, it cannot be sold in any form altered or not they have to design completely from scratch, even if they copy your design. Commercial license, it can pretty much be sold in any form even if someone straight up steals it because what are you going to do about it? In a case like this, just removing a logo, obviously that's bogus. There is nothing you can do to stop someone from completely copying your design in a case like this, but if you can prove that they literally used your file or if the part is essentially identical and came later, I think websites should take it down as copyright infringement. I needed a Bowdoin tube clip for example that was not the size that came with my printer and not the size of any files I could find online, so I designed one completely from scratch. It looks nearly identical to many others, but I started with a raw sketch in Fusion 360. Functionally the same as other designs, but clearly not stolen. If I had taken someone else's file, lowered the height by half a millimeter, and then wanted to sell it, I still think that would be bogus, but obviously it's hard to go after something like that. With more complicated designs it's more obvious.

    It's pretty straight forward, imo. Giving incentive to post stl files creates more catalogue which keeps people on their site and in their ecosystem. I've had bad luck with printers at first mainly because there are so many slicer settings. I went through a whole roll trying to get all the settings right on my first printer, then got rid of that for a bigger printer that had a lot of issues with the new ones I got. Having files that offer good settings on the page keeps me on their site a majority of the time and actually influenced my decision to get a bambulab printer in the first place. I want to 3d print, but not be a 3d printer hobbyist (as in always tinkering on it or upgrading it).
    And I'm not saying they're the best or even that the company I bought the broken printers from are all bad (which is why I am not naming names, sometimes life's RNG just doesn't favor you). Just saying that they're definitely doing the gift card system in order to try to create a whole community as well as drive sales. They're creating a walled garden without any walls. By keeping the garden maintained they keep retention high instead of forcing people into an ecosystem that makes it difficult to escape.

      As far as I know they do not, they probably want the most possible so that they get the most people printing and using more and more filament... I am finding that there are a lot more high quality models coming out, people getting very good. I know quite a few people that make hundreds per month (including myself) but I have a channel which helps a bit to promote my designs. That was never the intent originally, but it is nice to not have to worry about the cost of filament anymore. If I were to compare Printables at least at the moment and MW, MW is by far the better option, you can buy anything from their site, in the case of a printer you'd have to pay for shipping, but that's a small price to pay really. In the case of Printables, I have 10K points and they limit me on how much I can use for one purchase and shipping costs are very high as well. My only issue is that MW has such a good setup that they're really way in front now, from a printer size and website because they have the whole ecosystem working together. They adopted the Apple approach early on, and that is one that is proven to work. Their products look good and they also perform, so I can't take anything away from them. I just wish that Prusa would be a bit more competitive, and Creality will try to make a comeback also I'm sure. They're also behind IMO. Well I am rambling on now.... I'd focus on making great designs that have a really good cover/thumbnail, try to solve some a common problem that you have or someone in your family has, and chances are that other people have the problem too. But yeah, sorry to say that there are limits when it comes to giving ratings.

    Do you make tuned filament profiles for each of your machine/filament combinations? No one seems to ever mention if they do or not, so the quality of a print in a video becomes kind of meaningless to me. I've found that fit & finish, corner sharpness, and layer lines will vary depending on whether or not you use the proper flow ratio, max volumetric speed, and pressure advance values. Pretty easy to find out the proper settings to use for those (especially in OrcaSlicer) and you only need to do it once for each brand and type of filament (though it can be good to do per-color as well, but I don't go that far). Of course, these settings do vary from printer to printer (at least from model to model) as well.

      The nice thing is, if you use the AMS and Bambu's software, (maybeeee Orca can read from the AMS) soon as you drop that new spool in there, it configures it via the RFID chips for your specific attached machine to what is factory tested/suggested for flow rate, bed temp, tip temps, speed, etc. That alone makes the price of using their filament worth it to me. Especially when they have their bulk savings day where you can pick up a 1kg reel for 16-19$ depending on what it is.

    Is it better to redeem for the gift certificates as you go or save up points to get enough vouchers for what you want?
    You mentioned that your change was saved on one of the GC. Does that mean you have one left w/ that amount and the system erases the others or do you have to figure out which gc the change is on?

    • @NeedItMakeIt

      I haven't opened up the red yet, I'm waiting for the right project, but the filament looks good so far, Black and Grey are printing nice, no complaints.
      If it were me, I'd redeem as soon as I had enough points to cash in for free shipping. If you're saving for an AMS or a printer and it's slow going, I suppose I'd wait as long as possible. I have a feeling that Bambu will be changing this setup because it seems like it is costing them a lot. They must be making a push to have as many people jump over to their platform and then they'll make the adjustment, that's my guess, but time will tell.
      I have one GC left with some money left on it, but I don't know which it is. I still have each of them listed so it seems fairly straight forward to go back through each of them to get the right one.

For example, situations like this could end up causing someone like me who thinks they are using a model correctly and legally and end up finding out its actually someone else's and all the leg work and marketing behind it was a waste. I try my best when buying models or even free ones allowed for commercial use to make sure this isn't the case. I don't make money on the printers, they are just for personal use and gifts I make people, I've never been able to make money on them. I'm sad that I'm considering a printer from Bambu now but as I live in the US Prusa is just too expensive for me. I'd use their filament if shipping was cheaper and buy their printers if they had a support hub and warehouse in the US but shipping just kills me.

    • @NeedItMakeIt
      @NeedItMakeIt  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think Prusa still has a good name, and they've remained good printers over time, and considering that they were constructed from printed parts, it's pretty impressive.
      My feeling is that with some pressure they'll make the appropriate adjustments and should become more competitive. Maker World seems to be so much more advantageous to use than Printables unless maybe you live in the EU. I am still a bit shocked that I didn't need to pay for anything, and also I have cashed in again for 3 more spools, but this time of PETG-CF. I also think that Maker World will begin to change as more people jump to their platform.
      There are some more companies coming up which are very competitive, one is FLSUN, with what may be the fastest printers to-date and QIDI, with printers that perform well and have heated chambers. Lots of other companies are following the COREXY format as well, so we'll see what they come out with, it should be interesting to see.

      You could probably make a mould for placing silicone on the bottom of the feet. It would require accurate measurement of the silicone, though, to do well.

    printables reward system depends on some variables. If you are in europe and do not earn so much prusameter and do not need so much filament, then printables rewards is absolutly ok.
    In my case (Europe) shipping is cheap, I have a good stockpile of filaments and despite I have lots of models on printables they earn not so well. most points come from makes. It takes some time to get 700 prusameters so I can get 2 spools. Because it takes so long I didn't want to get the 3 spool reward, thatswhy it doesn't matter to that the unlisted the 3 spool reward.
    On makerworld I need 2 giftcards to save the shipping costs. In my case it would probaly take ages, so I would pay the shipping rather than waiting ...

I think I've been on for about 5 months now and I have been able to accumulate nearly 1K CAD for filament and parts. We'll see how much their changes impact things, since it seems to have slowed a bit. Like the first inkjet printers for home usage back in time. IF they manage to do that their business will be valuable that it was worth all the investment. Just with printing hardware this wouldn't be possible. These one click prints from the app and that people spend time to optimize designs and profiles are a major key for it to be possible.
      Without such rewards i would design way less and not go sometimes through multiple iterations before i publish something. Unlike printables or other platforms they make sure that the time and material of the designers is compensated at least a good bit.

    these programs are just there to attract users to your website and thats it.
    beside this the reason why this works for Bambulabs is because China is still considered a developing nation and is benefiting from insanely cheap international shipping rates thanks to that, on top of that the CPP also subsidizes the little shipping cost that remains which is the main reason why everything shipped from China is so cheap.

Of course no matter which way you look at it, the company is benefiting from our work in the sales of filament and the more designs we post the more they are printed etc. I also expect that they're making a big push to get people hooked, long-term I'm not sure what it will look like, but for the time being it's the place to be posting your work, that or maybe Etsy or similar.
      I can see your point, they have an advantage over other countries, which I suppose is why just about everything seems to be made in China these days. I just purchased some metric Allen keys and they were made in the Czech, but I paid about 4X the price for them. They look amazing, and I hope they last.
      I'm all about competition so we'll see what Printables does to compete, so far I haven't seen much aside from them bringing back the 3 spool combo.

    • @Pixelplanet5
      @Pixelplanet5 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NeedItMakeIt the 3 spools combo not being there is a temporary thing as they currently have so much demand for their filament that they cant produce enough even with the new filament line they just recently build.
      beside this Printables cant compete with free shipping and that was never the point of all of this.
      the entire reason why printables exists is that there was no good platform for 3d models as Thinigverse has been unusable for years at that point.
      Of course with all the subsidies and cheap labor its easy for bambulabs to undercut anything especially when they literally almost made a one to one copy from printables and just changed the design a tiny bit to make it less obvious.

      I just wonder where *funding* for all free stuff comes from? If Prusa is cutting rewards, maybe to keep them sustainable, what's the deal with Bambu Lab? Profit from printers (with A1 I don't think so)?
      Another part of course is death match for world domination 😬 - at least in 3D-printable models. Why bother with any other site when Bambu Lab pays you? But does payment model generate _original designs_ or bloom of _remixes from other sites and inside MakerWorld_ (free stuff, zero effort)?
      Was there talks about Bambu Lab importing models from other sites and generating accounts - without asking the creators? And copying Printables design?

      It won't be long before AI will be able to generate 3D models itself and then anything which is not a technical model requiring accuracy will be automated. Meshy is a good example, it has come a long way, but it's still not quite good enough. As Image generation gets better and many angles of an object can be formed, 3d models can become better as well.

    Thats definitely not cool. Id give credit to the original and repost the thing as a favour to everyone else who doesnt like things with branding all over them. I had a guitar wall hanger like this, except the logo was a band, which they probably shouldnt haven been using but whatever, they were a fan and the design was great, so i just put a hole in there and it actually made the thing stronger. I havent reposted it for anyone else yet but I know there are many of us who dont want branded tools and when designers arent offering that option, someone will, so why not you? In the end I find learning some CAD skills apart a delete operation is better, now you can modify things or create thngs to really suite your needs or make somethng that much better. Thats the point of sharing i think so other can iterate on it and make it better. Then we have something cooler and better to use, thats profit, instead of protecting a bad design from being iterated on, that protects one persons profits, but as a whole innovation/progress suffers i think. Afterall we share 99.9% DNA with each other, all life on this planet shares some , no one was original except our first ansesctor, so we all were. So we should share more and enjoy the fruits of progress rather then the fruits of hoarding property. In the end I wouldnt engage with anyone playing dirty, as you have to get dirty to counter it, now your both dirty, its hard but its the only way, anything built on lies wont last i believe so you wont have to worry other then making sure they dont take you down with them.
