It was a relief to hear at the end there that ALL the tikis from the hotel have been saved and not thrown into a dumpster, I messaged Sven a few years ago saying that we should contact the mayor of San Diego to safely remove the tikis when the hotel turned into housing for migrants. I had recently saved a 7ft Sea and Jungle tiki from a demolition of a restaurant by contacting a mayor of a small town in RI and shipped it back to AZ. Glad others are out there doing their part to save vintage tiki!!
Great to see Buzzy and his collection. Amazing Dude! I love that there a people out there who go out of their way to save and preserve pieces of Tiki Pop history. As I will turn 70 years old in 2025, I hope someone will think to preserve me as an historical artifact of Tiki Pop?? Aloha.
What a great interview, and an awesome collection. I think you are right, Spike, it's not necessarily the condition of a historical artifact that gives it value, but the story behind it. If there is ever a museum of Tiki, I can think of no better person than you to curate it.
Wow. That's absolutely cool! It's kind of bitter sweet, as I'm sure you'd rather visit the place again. It's even worse up here in the North East. We've lost so many small places and there's only a few left. Happy for your new acquisition!
Dude “down the hill” is such a thing! We’ve been in Orange County for the past 17 years or so, but we grew up in Victorville. It was just part of the nomenclature. Anything down the cone pass was “down the hill.” So funny. … oh and yes, meth is definitely a huge thing where I grew up. Unfortunately. Saw many trailer homes go up in flames.
That was way fun and what a collection he has, a very talented artist...I started following you on that first trip to get the tiki bar and frig (lol), I think I was hooked from then on...great placement of the pieces as well, even if temporary...cool score...!
"Back To You, Sarah!" As we see Pinup Palmer holding a BWTV microphone, the Breezeway Pond her back drop, sipping on a Zombie oblivious to Spike's cue.
I'm a little jealous. I was a little kid when my dad and mom used to drag me along to all those places, and Hanalei and Tiki Oasis were just 2 of those.
WOW Merry Christmas to you huh?? I would like to come upon some "trash" tiki gheez . Happy Holidays everyone and have A great 20251 PS love your SHAGish house...I saw that Witco

Wow what a collection Buzzy has!! It’s great that he’s driven by creating new pieces and not just chasing the money.
Pretty rad to have those specific parts of Tiki History!
As a music junkie and physical media collector, I enjoyed Buzzy's CD collection. Oh, and the tikis too.
buzzy is such a character .... amazing

I'm glad you liked it.
That’s great that he’s trying to sell to someone who is going to be a good custodian for the pieces.

"You still go by Spike?"
"No, I now go by John Jacob Tikiheimer Schmidt."
