A rare Spike-and-guest Breezeway episode on a Tuesday! And I’m up way past my bedtime watching it. The Kraken was…..I think….the first ever rum in general that I discovered WAY back before I knew what Tiki was. I mixed it in mugs of hot cider, as it’s cold here in Vermont. I remember liking it, ‘course were I to try it now my results would vary.
Very fun show! As a Kraken lover, I know I’m ashamed most days, I’m going to have to give this a try! I also placed an order to support a friend of the show! 😂
I was already logged onto the Tenikle website ready to order one before you put the star into the cocktail and then to find out I was going to get FIFTY percent off!!! Cheers Hans! Wishing you much success! I can't wait to try out my Tenikle ! Maybe now I can be in some of the photos that I take of my kids!
Ok, I've gotta be honest. I laugh out loud every time that Spike says cocksmith. I know that I lack maturity but I always giggle. I love that his friend had to cover his face during this episode because he was laughing so hard.
For my home Tiki Bar, using a spiced rum and ingredients in a bottle or tin from the local supermarket can make sense. Some of my mates are not connoisseurs of fine rum. They are happy with a Malibu or Bundy (Bundaberg Rum produced in Bundaberg East, Queensland, Australia,) mixed with Coke. So why serve up an expensive rum when you're asked to add Coca-Cola to it? Also it can be expensive to buy fresh citrus when its out of season. I grow my own mint, limes, grapefruit , lemons and oranges but keeping up a steady supply can be expensive. So my view is, if a mate wants a Bundy & Coke, then a Bundy & Coke is what he gets. Aloha
I feel like my Kraken Killer recipe isn't getting enough love here Spike, just joking buddy, thanks for the mention! FYI my recipe uses Monin coconut syrup (it doesn't taste chalky and is a bit sweeter) and a extra once of white coconut rum for a little extra kick.
Ooooh! Damn, I shoulda reached out to you before doing this. I thought it was just a rum substitution! Regardless, good memories of fun times in Palm Springs.
The comment about the old guys and trucks is so true. I was an international exchange student in Las Vegas in my senior year of high school (2007-2008) and my legal guardian was an old gentleman who was a teacher at the school I went to, he loved his retro vehicles and working on them, he had this one truck from the 60s, it didn't have seat belts and the front seat was basically a big couch, no space in the middle. Anyway, we travelled up and down Nevada, Utah, and Arizona with that thing and almost every time we stopped at a gas station, he'd get nice comments from other old dudes about his truck 😁
There's nothing wrong with spiced rums, but there are better brands than Kraken. I would suggest Chairman's Reserve Spiced Rum, Pusser's Gunpowder Proof Spiced Rum, or Don Q Spiced Rum if anyone is looking for the good ones.
Believe me, Kraken works perfectly for this cocktail, I tried other more premium brands messing with the original recipe and they just don't balance as well or just over power the overall taste, the Kraken just serves the overall flavor profile for this particular juice heavy drink.
I hope this doesn't come across as offensive, but is there any way to make these videos shorter and more focused on the drinks? The chatter between you and your guests just isn't that interesting most of the time. You have such a great eye for photography and I'd argue most people are here for YOU and the drinks anyway.
lol not sponsored! Thanks Spike!!! was so fun!
Loved this episode and the overall vibe, ordered a bunch of tenikles too, thank you for the code! :)

Another banger episode! One of my homies Juan worked with you back in the day. I think he was with Volcom though.
Totally ordered a couple 🎉
Great show! Used passionfruit juice instead of OJ and was fantastic!
Dude, I just made it with "Kirkland" spiced rum.... it was excellent!!!!
Tenikle is a little pricey, even with the 50% discount ($44.95 to $23.95 plus $5.99 Shipping) I might order later for sure. Cool invention!!!!
This episode not sponsored by The Shun🔪😄
I have yet to have a Painkiller……is it time for me to “Release the Kraken”? 🏴☠️ 🧉🐙🦑🐙🦑🐙🦑🧉

Who's going to tell Spike that Coco Real is actually sun tan lotion?
It is??
Mike Ness may actually be a viewer, jus sayin
Did the Dude Lebowski get all his White Russian ingredients at Vons or Ralph’s? Why not?

But there's no octopus on the label of those.
