Okay but "it's a pet the aliens brought along, it escaped, and then the aliens caught it and took it back with them" is actually a really cool theory; it invokes realities of our lived experience (taking a pet along with you on a trip, pet getting loose and you have to go after it) which means it's EMOTIONALLY plausible, and it also can nicely explain why one wasn't found and why it was limited in time, because the creature is no longer in the area to be seen or do stuff. Would make for a great movie.
As someone from Sacramento…. You should come investigate our underground tunnels by the river. The city got flooded and they built over them and it’s supposed to be haunted.
Also from Sac; amazingly I've never heard about these tunnels, but I second your recommendation. I don't really know of too many purportedly haunted locations we have here, but I feel like Old Sac has to be carrying some weird energy at least.

I'm glad Jessica raised the question of human involvement. I did wonder whether the original Puerto Rico killings could've been a product of sabotage/intimidation of local farmers. Humans (which the livestock was probably used to being around) doing the deed with tools (like a trocar) could explain why there were such clear punctures, and why there were no reported signs of struggle, such as claw marks on the animals' bodies.
@@thespankmyfrank Yeah, I've seen quite a few cases of criminal organizations sabotaging the production of farmers or intimidating them so that they're forced to sell their land at lower prices and move out. That makes me curious to know what happened to the farmers whose livestock got killed, btw. Imagine if somebody eventually looks that up and finds out that, to compensate for their losses/due to fear of the cryptid, they all sold their farms to big landowners, especially if it's to the same person.

My theory for Debrief: The Chupacabra is simply Canids or black bears (whatever local small bears are found there) with severe mange and starvation. Mange can account both for the odd greyish hairless skin and possibly even the "spikes" on the back as sadly mange can cause awful clumps of fur, scab and dried blood and perhaps the clumps looked spikey. Starvation can explain additionally odd appearances and sunken eye sockets. It can also account for desperation and going after livestock instead of wild animals. Wild dogs or bears can lose tails or ears through infection, self mutilation from stress or attacks from other animals. Also note, canids can walk on hind legs but bears can even better. If you think a bear is too big... Black bears can be remarkably small, especially if missing all its fuzz. It could have also been a particularly young bear like a yearling that is starving and got mange could make a bear be a thirc of thd size you typically think of when thinking of bears. Bears and canids can have abnormally human like appearing paws. EDIT: I'm primarily explaining what people saw that they thought was a Chupacabra vs what actually happened to the goats. I theorize a number of things could have happened to the animals to cause them to be drained of blood but it's highly unlikely any of it could be proven. #1: The goats accidentally injured themselves severely enough to puncture multiple arteries that could drain them like how butchers "humanely" slaughter animals by opening up the arteries to kill an animal relatively quickly. The animal could have wandered around in shock and ended up in another area so wherever they ended up there's very little blood evidence around them. It could have rained or sprinkled overnight and blood on the fur could have washed away or... if the farmers had guardian dogs... the dog might have licked off the blood. It'd go against a guardian dog's nature to eat the animals they protect but dogs will lick up blood. #2 There's some mentally ill person who believes he's a vampire or something and punctured the animals with sharp tubes or whatever and drained the blood into containers to consume later... like a criminal minds episode (except I was human victims) or like another criminal minds episode where a serial killer wanted to be an artist and paints using blood. Obviously less plausible but...never underestimate crazy or the odd things humans do. #3: Both things happened.
There are no bears in any of the areas Chupacabra has been seen. South/Central America, South California/Baja California, South Texas, Arizona and New Mexico have practically zero bear population. Some of North California and North Texas has bears. But none migrate that far South.

None of the maps of Chupacabra sighting I’ve seen have sightings in Mid Mexico. Which I always thought was weird. I’m no expert, but I’ve been interested in cryptids for a couple decades now. Really loving Mystery Files, even more so than Unsolved: True Crime. Like you i really didn't enjoy True Crime because it was such a bummer and i really just wanted the experience of seeing Shane and Ryan try to solve mysteries. My favorite episodes of true crime were the ones about cryptids and the treasure hunt was incredibly fun! And your dynamic was so fun in all the episodes of true crime but it was honestly just really hard to watch sometimes. And its nice that you have this new show that feels way more comfortable and positive! Glad we're out of the gruesome murder phase and more into straight up mysteries. Its giving the DB cooper vibes and i just really love it guys!!

Ryan needs beyond a reasonable doubt to choose one specific solution for certain but will entertain more out there options as realistic possibilities. Shane will only entertain options that are provably physically possible but will decide based on probability which he is confident is the solution.
Only three episodes down and Shane has already given in and saying he likes the alien theories. The balance is off in the universe. I predict this series spirals into complete chaos by week five. And I’m here for it.
The ground being dry of blood doesn't mean the animal is fully drained. It just means that there's not enough pressure left, especially with no heart to pump it, for the remaining blood to be pushed out. Either the attacker got a good general suck of blood, or maybe the animal was alive enough to walk a bit before lying down in a comparatively dry spot.
The part about Ryan messing up a certain word over and over, as someone with speech impediments I felt his frustration through the screen. I also have to make that noise and shake my head, I call it rebooting the system 😅

I mean, it is technically a pilot season so they'll evaluate and hopefully (probably) make more in the future. It'd be a bad decision to make 10 episodes at once without knowing if the audience will like it. It is a bit different from Unsolved, after all, and if nobody ended up watching it'd be a loss for the company.
The thing about the chupacabra not being a species because there's not that many attacks is not necessarily true. The DNA results said that one animal was a mix between a fox and a wolf. Maybe the offspring between those two is sterile, kinda like a mule. So they exist in the wild, every now and then, when a fox and a wolf happen to breed, but they can't sustain a population. That would explain why sightings of these things are so rare and people don't know what they're looking at.
The Gray Squirrels in southern Ontario, at least in urban areas, are at least a 50/50 mix of black, melanistic ones, and gray ones. If Shane wants to be surrounded by black squirrels he just needs to take a flight to Toronto.

Black squirrels aren't rare. They just are only found in certain regions. Different squirrel species live in different places. I had never seen a black squirrel before until I visited my husband's hometown in Iowa, and black squirrels was pretty much the only kind of squirrels around. They were all over the place.

Regarding the questions of why it didn't look like the animals were drained of blood and why there weren't pools of blood in the vicinity questions: please look up "lividity." If something dies, and isn't moved around for a while, all of the blood in the body settles into one spot in the body. To laypeople, it would definitely look like the body had been drained. This is so easily explained that it shouldn't even be part of the conversation.

Of course there’s been sighting on Islands along the coast too but didn’t think of specifying on that either because it’s pretty obvious there wouldn’t be any bears on those islands.

Really loving Mystery Files, even more so than Unsolved: True Crime. Like you i really didn't enjoy True Crime because it was such a bummer and i really just wanted the experience of seeing Shane and Ryan try to solve mysteries. My favorite episodes of true crime were the ones about cryptids and the treasure hunt was incredibly fun! And your dynamic was so fun in all the episodes of true crime but it was honestly just really hard to watch sometimes. And its nice that you have this new show that feels way more comfortable and positive! Glad we're out of the gruesome murder phase and more into straight up mysteries. Its giving the DB cooper vibes and i just really love it guys!!

i like the vibe of this show its like they out grew the unsolved humour, a little more relaxed and quite frankly respectful lmao
Ryan needs beyond a reasonable doubt to choose one specific solution for certain but will entertain more out there options as realistic possibilities. Shane will only entertain options that are provably physically possible but will decide based on probability which he is confident is the solution.
Only three episodes down and Shane has already given in and saying he likes the alien theories. The balance is off in the universe. I predict this series spirals into complete chaos by week five. And I’m here for it.

The ground being dry of blood doesn't mean the animal is fully drained. It just means that there's not enough pressure left, especially with no heart to pump it, for the remaining blood to be pushed out. Either the attacker got a good general suck of blood, or maybe the animal was alive enough to walk a bit before lying down in a comparatively dry spot.

I mean, it is technically a pilot season so they'll evaluate and hopefully (probably) make more in the future. It'd be a bad decision to make 10 episodes at once without knowing if the audience will like it. It is a bit different from Unsolved, after all, and if nobody ended up watching it'd be a loss for the company.
The thing about the chupacabra not being a species because there's not that many attacks is not necessarily true. The DNA results said that one animal was a mix between a fox and a wolf. Maybe the offspring between those two is sterile, kinda like a mule. So they exist in the wild, every now and then, when a fox and a wolf happen to breed, but they can't sustain a population. That would explain why sightings of these things are so rare and people don't know what they're looking at.
Foxes and wolves are not genetically close enough to produce offspring sterile or not.
Wolfdogs, coywolves and coydogs are all non sterile

The Gray Squirrels in southern Ontario, at least in urban areas, are at least a 50/50 mix of black, melanistic ones, and gray ones. If Shane wants to be surrounded by black squirrels he just needs to take a flight to Toronto.
As a person in norther Ontario I was flummoxed by the idea that black squirrels are rare.
We have a bunch in Bellingham, Washington, too. Or used to, at least.
I never saw a black squirrel until I went to Stanley Park in Vancouver, where that seemed to be the only kind they had.

Black squirrels aren't rare. They just are only found in certain regions. Different squirrel species live in different places. I had never seen a black squirrel before until I visited my husband's hometown in Iowa, and black squirrels was pretty much the only kind of squirrels around. They were all over the place.
I never saw one growing up in Wisconsin, but I've recently seen a couple in Connecticut

Regarding the questions of why it didn't look like the animals were drained of blood and why there weren't pools of blood in the vicinity questions: please look up "lividity." If something dies, and isn't moved around for a while, all of the blood in the body settles into one spot in the body. To laypeople, it would definitely look like the body had been drained. This is so easily explained that it shouldn't even be part of the conversation.
