    Aloha, Welcome to Hawaii! I have lived here for 30 years. I live on Keto and have for 3 years. I have followed you for a year. You are real and I can relate to how you live. I do the same. I went from size 1x to an 11/12. I just had my 80th birthday. I feel 40 and look 50. It is not a diet but a lifestyle and you two understand that. Mahalo for all your time and work in honest Keto.

    Two years ago I started the Ketogenic diet. I had 60lbs to lose and my blood pressure was through the roof. Fortunately I achieved great success. I had assumed that I wouldn't feel better until I reached my goal weight. I didn't even care if it took me years to get there. To my surprise I felt so much better just days into my journey. It was AMAZING! I felt fantastic! It took me a year to lose the 60lbs. I no longer needed blood pressure medicine and all was well. Some friends invited us to go to Vegas for the weekend and we were all in! I bought new clothes, size 10 jeans. My slip started the first night in the casino. The cocktail waitress came around and I ordered a Pina Colada. It tasted like sugar water but even this didn't stop me. I drank several more. I woke up the next morning claiming to have a hangover but...in the back of my mind I knew it was a sugar crash. The breakfast buffet came next. Hashbrowns, muffins, Belgian Waffles and the list goes on. When we got back home on Monday, It just kept going. I thought "I've already reached my goal weight. I will just be careful and eat in moderation." Here I am a year later. I have gained most of the weight back and I am on medication for my blood pressure again. I am two weeks in and going strong. It was a painful lesson to learn. So...if you are reading this comment and thinking about going off your Keto diet while on vacation...please learn from my mistake because "What happens in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas."

      I am the same way!!! I think cheat days are bad . I can not control myself . So I just eat good keto food and if I want to cheat now I just eat keto junk sometimes.

      Oh my word, this is such a common tale, it seems and so sad to me. I just went to Vegas and didn't cheat at all and came home four pounds heavier and I cannot shake it! I was losing one pound a day up until a few weeks ago, down 30 in three months so now I'm scared to travel. I said to my sister, what would I have gained had I cheated??? All I did differently was drink tons of diet coke! I'm feeling a little discouraged. I know we just need to trust the process though, don't we?

    We found ourselves visiting our kid on Maui a few years ago, for my husband’s birthday and anniversary. Our kids chipped in to give us a gift certificate for the iconic “Mama’s Fish House” restaurant. We (beyond) splurged and shared their famous apple-banana cobbler with some ice cream on it. A wonderful, once in a lifetime experience!

    Perfect advice! On a recent vacay in California, I did tons of walking and hiking, stayed Keto for every meal except our last night out when I indulged in PASTA at a specialty Italian restaurant that imports everything from Italy…couldn’t pass up that experience! I fasted the entire plane ride there and back (perfect opportunity for an extended fast) and wound up losing three lbs. in those 12 days. As you both said, focusing on activities and not the food made me feel victorious instead of coming home bloated and having gained weight. Win win! 😃😉

Thanks for sharing your experiences- it really helps seeing how ketosis has helped shape your choices now that you have the upper hand in food decisions.

    What a healthy attitude you guys have! I do the best I can, and am eating very clean Keto most of the time. When I go off Keto too much, I feel physically sick. Don't need too much of an incentive to keep it going when my body reminds me how bad it feels to eat indiscriminately.

    I try really hard to stay on track as best I can while on Vacation. Mostly I do this because I feel so much better when I have little to no sugar and I want to enjoy my Vacations now that I feel so much better. I try to choose and eat Keto friendly options first so that even if I do "indulge" I won't eat as much. I went to Louisiana and totally had some rice with dishes, but rice was no longer the main dish. On another occasion instead of the cake and cupcakes I decided to have a few pieces of fruit and it was so sweet and delicious I didn't need very much to satisfy my mind. I no longer think of Vacations as a way to try new foods and instead as a way to experience new adventures.
    Glad you treated yourself to a trip to Hawaii! Well deserved, and I'm glad you had such a successful trip mentally and physically. Nicely Done!

    I am so glad you did this video. I needed it! I'm on vacation, staying with my mother who doesnt understand keto or the way I eat. She constanly pushes non keto food. For the most part I've been finding keto food on menus when we eat out, and do the best I can when we eat in. Today I had to partake in a fried chicken lunch and knew this was about the experience of being with my mom and her friend, not about the food. I know I will do better at the next meal, and when I get back home I will get back to my routine. Thank you for the video and reminder you do the best you can do and don't focus on the food. Thank you, THANK YOU!

    Thanks for sharing your story! I'm sure you're having a WONDERFUL time! When on vacation, I definitely plan for food situations like taking my own Keto sweetener, bread, tortillas, snacks, etc. It helps mitigate some of the damage. That being said, if I ever got to go to Hawaii, I would totally eat some pineapple since it would be a rare or even a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. I wouldn't feel guilty about it since I stick to Keto in my everyday life and, for the most part, stick to Keto while being on vacation.

    • @alwaysright5901
      @alwaysright5901 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I'm going to Arizona for a week myself and I'll be bringing my keto foods (chips, bagels, crackers, cookies) with mini cans of coconut milk for my coffee since I'm not sure if I'll find these items at the different grocery stores there. Just want to be comfortable and enjoy my vacay. I did go to Vegas a couple years ago and did eat the French pastries, crepes and baguette sandwiches at the Paris Hotel - a must! Then ate keto for everything else. Did a full 24 hour fast on the day flying back home. Then next day, keto was back on full time with intermittent fasting.

    A good thing to look into is the concept of food combining. If you’re going to cheat, using the food combining will lessen the impact of the cheat.
    I probably won’t spell this correctly, but there’s a book called The Schwartzbein Principle that explains it well. It’s worth a read.
    It’s mostly waiting after a meal to cheat, or waiting after the cheat before you eat a meal.
    On one of my keto adventures, I used this, and was still losing 2 1/2 to 3 pounds a week!
    I wouldn’t recommend doing it all the time, but if you’re in Hawaii, how can you pass up fresh pineapple? You know? There are special occasions where it’s appropriate.

  • @susanvanduyn2811

    Started my keto journey the beginning of 2020, start of the pandemic, so vacation was not an issue for 2 years. We just spent 2 weeks in Hawaii and intermittent fasting was a huge key to staying “mostly” keto. It was actually a revelation for me. The couple we went with eat ALL THE TIME. They had breakfast in the condo and I able to easily decline with “I don’t eat breakfast”, because it was true. You hit the nail on the head when you said to plan activities that are not food centric.

    I was on Keto for a few months 4 years ago. My Keto coach told me that she went off Keto during holidays. I hate to diet! I went off my diet at Thanksgiving and that was the end of my Keto journey for 4 years! Did I say I hate to diet! Back on Keto and losing weight. I will not go off my diet again! Once in a while I have a taste of something with higher carbs. That’s all! Very careful to keep any cheats to a minimum. Not enough to ruin my diet. Always Keto mindful!

  • @ojaimark
    @ojaimark 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is a great mindset. For the longest time I did the whole "I'm on vacation I"m gonna eat whatever I want" thing too. But like you said, getting out of ketosis a lot of times make you feel worse than getting into ketosis. So rather than just not go off the deep end, I would avoid feeling sick and ruining the first few days of my vacation by doing something even worse. I would go off the deep end a few days before the vacation so I could suffer at home and then enjoy the rest of my vacation without feeling sick. Looking back I can't believe I actually rationalized this nonsense to myself. Now I do what you guys do. Make the best choices I can where possible, and if it's not possible or I really just don't want to resist the urge (if it's something truly special and unique for example) I'll indulge in a tiny portion of whatever it is. That way I can experience the food but not make myself sick in the process.

    There is a good donut place near my house. I used to stop there every couple of months and get a couple of donuts and a large coffee. I’ve been tempted to go, but always stop myself. I’ve made a deal with myself that when I lose 50 pounds, I will treat myself to donuts and coffee ONE TIME! Then, when I lose another 50 pounds, I will do it again! Then, after I reach my goal weight, I will do it again! After that, it will have to be only on special occasions, like my birthday or something.

Now, I don't usually think about food until way past noon, never would have believed it if you told me. I've had family visits now that the pandemic has stopped being the only consideration and I have to laugh because my 'company' is hungry, looking for breakfast, lunch, etc. and it is the farthest thing from my mind. We hit the gym in the morning, do a quick workout (20 minutes - usually weights) - we do not eat breakfast. we make sure we get enough walking in. lunch is totally keto, but dinner we allow ourselves to enjoy a little carbs. Thank you so much. The only way I can commit to being Keto for the rest of my life is by having planned breaks that allow me to indulge in non-keto moments!

    What great and helpful content. Never thought through it like that, but I used to be the same way on vacation ALWAYS revolving around food and meals. Thanks for walking me through a new way to really enjoy vacation time. Since my partner is not keto, I will be on my own…. But that’s how I am at home so no big deal really. Having fun experiences in my mind instead of worrying about the food thing will make all the difference. And you are so correct about the intermittent fasting being so helpful in times when there’s no good choices available…just skip it and move on!

    Total agree with you girls. Just got back off vacation. When I did indulge in something, me & my husband purchased one & split it (that generally gave us 2-3 bites a piece). Before we would both have had one a piece. Life is too short, not to have a few treats every now and then.. My weight stayed the same. I'm going to Alaska in June and I plan to enjoy, but in moderation. Admire & respect you girls..

    Good content!!! Thank you. I did this to myself just on a day of out of town activities with my family. I thought too much about what I was gonna eat and when my fast started. And it kinda made the whole process.. not fun. I think just enjoying the moments is where it’s at and next time, not letting the health journey affect happiness. U guys look like u had a blast!! Thank you for bringing us along. Hawaii is just beautiful.

    I was on KETO for a full year and went on vacation this past June. Long story short I went off of it and stayed off of it, and ate whatever I wanted for the last 7 months. I have gained 20 pounds back and I'm very unhappy and feel awful. Mentally and physically. I have come across the two of you this week and I'm very thankful. The two of you make me laugh in every video. Im unsure of going back on Keto or plunging straight into carnivore. Thank you for trying out these recipes so I don't have to waste my time with the nasty ones....LOL
    I wish you both well, stay funny, and thank you for the insight and inspiration 😊

    Great message! That's my plan for vacation. I've been doing the 75/25 and I have not gained at all. The 25% that is not keto, I make sure it is worth it. I can't imagine I'll ever eat 3 banana splits at one sitting, but if I want to have Thai food with sticky rice once a month, I do!
    Thanks for the video ☺️

    Nice! We went there in 2017/2018 for New Years. I hadn’t discovered Keto yet but I went off my diet at the time hard & went totally backwards until I did discover keto some months later. Great tips!

    How very timely! I've been on intermittent fasting and Keto for about 3 months and have lost 25 lbs. We are going to Mexico for a week and I was starting to fret about the food. I like your advice about focusing on the experiences and not the food! Thank you

    What a great video - I totally relate. I Have been on a low carb intermittent fasting diet for a little bit over two years. Shortly after I started I took a vacation and was able to make the IF part work but the low carb part was tough. I feel I would do better today and your experience is encouraging. Some of the same philosophies should work during holiday visits with family - I hope. It will happen next week with my skinny son and his skinny wife staying with us for a week. We’ll focus on the activities together, and they can have breakfast while my wife and I skip. And grill baby grill!
