I actually know what happened with that Maple > Oak tree thing. So the server doesn't send the client individual information (called varbits) about every farming patch in the world. Instead there is a small set of varbits that are re-used, and only tell the client about the farming patches in the region you're currently in. In the base game this is mostly fine, as view distance is limited, but with view extension methods like the GPU plugin you can see beyond your current region. So, what happened is when you TP'd to camelot, the server told the client "hey varbit 4771's value is 31", which corresponds to the harvestable tomatoes in the Catherby north allotment, and the client held onto this value when you TP'd back to Burthorpe and were approaching Taverley. That value of 31 on varbit 4771 *also* corresponds to a growing maple tree in the Taverley tree patch, so the client rendered that until you crossed a loading line that prompted the server to send the correct value for the oak tree (value 12).
Oh that's why I often see dead or still growing trees from the distance that are actually fully grown. I knew not to care about what a distant patch looks like but never exactly why. Thanks
I would hazard a guess this is why I occasionally see herbs snap from freshly-planted to fully-grown a frame before I teleport to my next herb patch - the game has loaded the data for the fully-grown herbs at the new location slightly before it de-renders the old location. I also suspect this same system is being used for the Mahogany Homes furniture data - there are two houses in SE Falador that are close enough where if you start fixing items in one house, you can see similar items being updated in the other house even though nobody is working on them. There would just be one variable for all houses e.g. "range is repaired: true/false"

The trouble is, how is he going to know the more efficient farming methods if the goal is to not use guides or outside help? Unless he makes an exception for non-questing skill training. I recall in RS3 that I also considered farming to be a tedious chore until I relied more on guides for how to power through it faster/more efficiently, making achieving 99 more practical (this was years ago so it was before a while bunch of content added since, but even then there were so many options and factors that it's really hard to know what is the "correct" way to train it).
@razorednight That'll have to be the price he pays to create some unique content. But may God have mercy on his soul when he has to figure out how best to grind some of these skills to higher levels for some of the grandmaster quests. At least I don't think there are many 90+ level requirements, if any, so maybe getting 80s isn't too bad for most. Of course, he has a far bigger future concerns with a few of the especially notorious quest puzzles than a few measily skill grinds...
I too hate dailies in most games, but for some reason just love farming. Idk, from the very beginning when I started my account my goal was to get the most efficient farming routes possible, and that led me towards things like diaries and quests. It ties in so neatly with everything else in the game. It's a bit like combat in that sense, only instead of clicking crabs every 12mins you click herbs every couple hours. Maybe it's about the self-direction aspect, that I chose it as my goal. In other games they usually push the dailies, like it's always the first thing you see when you log in. I don't even use the runelite plugin, I just remember my timers or cast geomancy when I forget. But yea, each to their own as with all things.
It was so satisfying watching you figure out some of the puzzles/challenges of this quest, it's really cool to watch you improve after learning some more about how the game works/flows through Legend's Quest
I love these moments in OSRS quests like trying to shortcut the quest and grab the seeds from the rose bushes, but then getting confronted by the quest NPC. Your quest really feels like it is developing as you play because of this.
Fun tidbit about the Wise Old Man's Farming question. This quest came out shortly after (Or roughly the same time) as the release of the Farming skill, hence the question asking about Farming with zero negative options.
Best osrs series right now. So glad you decided to go ahead and make this! Love listening to the quests while I work and get more insight on the lore. Thanks again mate 👍
Possibly my favourite osrs series! What you have done is very impressive, using only your wits and sometimes vague memories to solve puzzles within quests is seriously satisfying. I really hope you continue the series much further but it makes me wonder, how on Earth are you gonna beat some quest bosses, as they can be quite punishing, especially without knowing the mechanics. Can't wait for future episodes!!
I've played this game for over 15 years and use the wiki for every little thing in the world and I still manage to learn something from watching you every episode. Love it
I have not played runescape in what feels like 16 years. And have no plans to start again so have no idea why the algorithm threw ypur videos at me a few weeks ago Your video series is fantastic and I have watched them all. 11/10
Eyyyy! I finally caught up! Been watching this amazing series for a while now, and I just realised that autoplay didn't queue the next one haha. Thank you so much for the incredible content so far, I'm really loving the concept! Whenever I did questing in rs3 I always went in blind to quests and only looked up solutions when I got stuck, so this style of playing really hits some nostalgia for me. Some of these puzzles you've figured out would've left me stumped for so long. Really looking forward to the rest of the Mahjarrat quest line (especially desert treasure!). It's probably my favourite in rs3.
Stellar video once again. Your editing and pacing for these videos is so pinpoint fucking perfect, it amazes me every video you put out. Keep up the amazing work.
I hope this series keeps going until its upto date! If averaging 0.75 quests a week per video, theres like over 100 quests to go so easily 3 more years of vids, wooooo!
When I first came back to RuneScape as an adult, I refused to use RuneLite and only used the wiki to look up items I had never heard of. Playing unguided is so rewarding, it's cool to see someone else doing it too.
I used to agree 1000% with your takes on farming, but I've found that if you route your farming paths right you can treat it more like a lap running skill than a daily. There's enough allotment and herb patches in the game that if you start at one and go around harvesting/re-planting all of them by the time you've finished the last one the first one you hit will be fully grown; repeat until you hit your farming goal or simply can't stand to do it any longer.
40:40 (no spoilers) there was a bit of dialogue with King Roald you could have had there that would have been a great laugh, but you happened to pick the right dialogue option first. I was looking forward to hearing you bicker back and forth with him hahaha
18:32 - When you aren't in the same chunk your crops are obfuscated if you haven't been back there since they've grown. This was done to break the OSBuddy Pro plugin that told you the status of crops in patches and if they were diseased.
Farming was my first 99. Farming is best skill. It was perfect to do in work breaks and on breaks from other hobbies. Don't integrate it with normal play, outside of tree runs. Integrate it with times you're not playing. Like I could play guitar, paint, work out, or read for an hour and keep my inventory set up for it.
Farming is great because it essentially levels up when you're offline. Any amount of herb farming is decent cash too. You don't need to do it every couple of hours. Do it once when you log-in then again before you log-out regardless of what else you're doing and it will be 99 in no-time. Or do what the other guy suggested. Farm runs on your work breaks/lunch.
@@MeanderingSlackerThe last thing I want to do while I'm out, is pull out my phone to do my chores on a game. But! Along the lines of your reading one, gearing up for a double fruit tree run, and doing 1 was often how I ended my sessions, and then when you play the next day you are already ready to harvest and replant.
By the by, if you talk to Queen Ellemaria after the quest, she'll explain that the white tree fruits restore a bit of run energy, which is decent if you don't have easy access to energy potions.
I love this quest. It's a bit of a pain (although not as bad when you realize it was released RIGHT after Farming, so it was still novel) but Queen Ellamaria is genuinely one of my favorite characters. She's got it made in life and she's gonna make that everybody else's problem. Gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss, you know? 😂😂 Plus SHE at least thinks the garden turned out nice!
the hilarious thing is, other players see the trolley, but not whats on it :p i saw a guy push that trolley few days ago and didnt know what i was looking at 😂 great video again man!
I loved farming. I never thought of it as a chore, but rather as a nice break in the middle of a big grind or between tasks. Slayer task complete -> herb run -> get new task
I love the part in Garden of Tranquility that just interrupts the quest with a little survey of "Are you enjoying the AMAZING new farming skill?" [yes] [definitely] [ABSOLUTELY] Also the quiz mentions PKmaster0036 and I just noticed on rewatching the cutscene he's the guy that brutally murders the two guards.
That dragonstone from the gem grab bag is huge for him and he didn't seem to really realize it. He's been rocking the noob amulets for months, and he could get up to four really good teleport items if he buys a few more bags to get more. Shame he found it so late because he has RFD done now and the bracelet isn't an upgrade on top of that.
Since not too many people end up going back to the white tree fruit I figured I'd provide a little spoiler about it below.... I am enjoying your experience you may feel more energetic after consuming some especially if you are already tired....
I had to look to see about your convincing of the wise old man and you just had to get all the right answers. I thought it would of been funny if you just had to agree with the one about him.
Still can’t believe that Jagex decided to gaslight RS3 players into believing the queen of Varrock is a super strong adventurer and always has been when the reality is that she was was always a pretty but stupid barmaid with a bad attitude the king took a liking to.
Farming is gonna be a struggle on an Ironman but try to keep up with it because when you need those levels there is no quick way to level the skill on an ironman. Love the content man.
Around the time I did this quest, I also hated farming and didn't like the idea of it. But when I finally gave it a real shot and started doing regular tree/herb runs, I got really into it and it quickly became my highest level skill now about level 103. I liked that I could do the run and then log off for a while or do something else while still feeling efficient
13:53 I knew Lyra had a dark backstory but playing these back to back I didn't realize how much she had in common with Fenkenstrain to survive in these lands, even worse that she says she recognizes the power of Charos. _Those two have a history?!_ That or some other malevolent force on her mind, but just bad news all around living in Morytania, sheesh. 14:15 The worst part is for all I know they did exactly that and I never noticed. Wouldn't be the only time a doppelganger replaced a dead quest npc...
I completely agree with farming feeling like a daily and not liking it for that reason. Same reason I was reluctant to do Sea-Weeds, same reason a lot of this 'max effeciency tasks/runs' that people kept bugging me about was stuff I really didn't want to do. In the end, none of it was necessary to begin with and it was widly overemphasized. If you're going to play the game until you max or get max gear regardless, the amount of supplies you'll get from just bossing itself is way WAY more than you'd ever need for maxing.
About the Shooting Stars activity, actually -- the whole incentive behind why they made the activity was to encourage player-to-player interactions, like sharing star location info with other players. Some plugins and cc's do take it a bit farther than might feel organic, though, you're fair to assess that. Given the spirit of the activity, could I maybe suggest opening up a line for viewer "participation" via your in-game chat channel? (Players can join a chat channel by typing a user's name in the chat channel tab on the in-game UI, the two yellow smileys with helmets on) Where players could join your chat to tell you about a star they organically discovered themselves. It'd have to be on the honor system, to be fair, but also in fairness, I think viewers have been pretty polite with your Unguided wishes so far! (And if any bad actors try to stir trouble, I believe you can ban them from your chat channel.)
The Wise Old Man quiz is about being worthy of using the influential power of the ring. The reason you passed the second try is because you picked all of the options that fulfill the wishes of the other person in the scenario, which would make you a good diplomat.
For farming I just logged in and out at the Farming Guild every session. I'd plant whatever I could there and do contracts. I didn't have to go out of my way but got some regular passive xp in. I now have 99 :)
18:35 The fake maple tree is because overpowered plugins used to be able to tell you the current status of all your patches in the game no matter how far away you are, and so you would instantly know whether they were diseased, since the status of all patches was always available within the osrs client. The game now just gives fake information when you aren't close to the actual patch, and with various features that extend draw distance you can see this.

14:40 thank you for that mate, happiest I've been in ages watching someone rake.
18:23, thought we were about to segue into an ad for mental health advisors
“and when I need a little help, I contact my friends at BETTERHELP”
So glad it didn’t turn into this, BetterHelp sponsorships give me the ick
This is hilarious 😂😂
knock knock, BetterHelp come sponsor this man
There is someone you can talk to. You can talk to Alain.
@@appullplease no, betterhelp are awful
Really enjoying the series! Looking forward to Desert Treasure 1!
Thank you so much for the incredibly kind donation!! And also the really kind words
30:12 the most normal reaction I’ve ever seen in a video game to someone breaking into your house 😂
Love it
Thanks for the channel support and the kind words! Glad you’re enjoying :)
I have not played runescape in what feels like 16 years. And have no plans to start again so have no idea why the algorithm threw ypur videos at me a few weeks ago
Your video series is fantastic and I have watched them all.
11/10
I can't believe he fished the ring up on the second try, that took me sooooo long to do my last go round the quest
Could be like j1mmy on by release and throw it down again and spend an hour getting it back
Stellar video once again. Your editing and pacing for these videos is so pinpoint fucking perfect, it amazes me every video you put out. Keep up the amazing work.
These videos are so fun to watch, really good stuff mate. Can't believe you gobbled the fruit and seeds of the last surviving white tree in Gielinor
I hope this series keeps going until its upto date! If averaging 0.75 quests a week per video, theres like over 100 quests to go so easily 3 more years of vids, wooooo!
WOOOOOO thank you, watching this as I power through the last hour of work.
You’re amazing!
This series is so freaking good. And I’m learning so much about the quests since I just spacebar’d through most of the dialogue
Ngl, the video title made me think you were doing My Arms Big Adventure.
Another great video! Helping me through my recovery from my eye operation! Been here from the start and I’ve loved every episode!!
Thank you so much and hope you’re recovering well!
Thank you Alien Food for encouraging me to get back into this game that I’ve loved for so many years!!
4:27 after this, one could almost say, that you are the master of the lore of the ring
I love this spoiler free content. I cant wait for some of the big quests. Like one small favor
When I first came back to RuneScape as an adult, I refused to use RuneLite and only used the wiki to look up items I had never heard of. Playing unguided is so rewarding, it's cool to see someone else doing it too.
I can’t explain the joy I get from these videos. Thank you for this incredible series!
You know, I have been wanting to get into the lore of runescape and this is a fun way of absorbing it. Great videos
I've never paid attention to the specific day a youtuber uploads before, but now I love fridays
I keep forgetting you upload fridays so every week I feel like I’m getting a little present ❤
I think it’s a mental block more than anything lol. Even starting a loop like that feels long to me 😂
that sounds like hell, i'll stick to forgetting about my trees
"I use my feminine ars-- i mean feminine arts to lure young farmers back to the land"
This series brings me a lot of joy. Thank you @Alien Food
"Good heavens, Morytania is fucked up" oh just you wait for the vampyre questline
40:40 (no spoilers) there was a bit of dialogue with King Roald you could have had there that would have been a great laugh, but you happened to pick the right dialogue option first. I was looking forward to hearing you bicker back and forth with him hahaha
your skills over each episode have increased so much. Legend's Quest shaped you.
18:32 - When you aren't in the same chunk your crops are obfuscated if you haven't been back there since they've grown. This was done to break the OSBuddy Pro plugin that told you the status of crops in patches and if they were diseased.
Loving the vids Alien! Hope you enjoy making these as much as we love watching them :)
Honestly best series on TH-cam atm can’t wait for the next episode
FINALLY, someone who isn't afraid to bash on FARMING!
WE HATE FARMING
Hate normal farming, love tithe farm
Just finished binging this series yesterday! Happy to see another upload from the GOAT
just wanted to show my love for the series! Please keep it up!
there was 0 typing/shaking of the screen in the last video i think and i can't tell you how excited i was to see it again in this one!
By the by, if you talk to Queen Ellemaria after the quest, she'll explain that the white tree fruits restore a bit of run energy, which is decent if you don't have easy access to energy potions.
The best time of the week just dropped!
Can’t believe it’s already been a year since you started this series, been amazing watching your channel grow
HAPPY FRIDAYYY, been looking forward to this all week again! Let’s go!
Plus SHE at least thinks the garden turned out nice!
I caught up :( no more binging. The playlist has been on every time I go to sleep. Thank you man ❤️
the hilarious thing is, other players see the trolley, but not whats on it :p i saw a guy push that trolley few days ago and didnt know what i was looking at 😂 great video again man!
I love this series a lot! Cant wait for some of the bigger quests 😊
Seeing the "you softly stroke your cat." was 100% the best part. I got scared you were gonna have a runaway!! 😂
The writing in this quest is so good, I love it.
Honestly this is gonna be a great series. Especially when you get to Song of the Elves. That'll be the best episode.
I loved farming. I never thought of it as a chore, but rather as a nice break in the middle of a big grind or between tasks.
Slayer task complete -> herb run -> get new task
I love the part in Garden of Tranquility that just interrupts the quest with a little survey of "Are you enjoying the AMAZING new farming skill?" [yes] [definitely] [ABSOLUTELY]
Also the quiz mentions PKmaster0036 and I just noticed on rewatching the cutscene he's the guy that brutally murders the two guards.
Such a great series. Definitely one of my favorites on youtube.
Since not too many people end up going back to the white tree fruit I figured I'd provide a little spoiler about it below....
I am enjoying your experience
you may feel more energetic after consuming some especially if you are already tired....
These videos are always so good, thank you!!
I forgot about stealing the statues! This series is so fun to watch.
Thank you!! Glad you’re enjoying and thanks for the channel support
My man so deep into osrs logic and quests, "What's long with a hook to get the ring?"
100% agree with you about daily tasks.. they really create an unenjoyable means of playing
This channel is goated. keep it up brotha you'll blow up
I completely agree with farming feeling like a daily and not liking it for that reason.
What are you talking about Alien Food, youre a natural at farming.... views with banger series! 🔥
Alienfood: Morytania's fucked up. Everything going on inside Morytania is fucked up.
Settled: Am I a joke to you?
friday! cant wait for the next episode later
14:17 lol probably. Never thought of it like that 😂
Fun Fact: You can tell if a content maker has done this quest or not by whether those statues are missing when they go through town.
The Wise Old Man quiz is about being worthy of using the influential power of the ring. The reason you passed the second try is because you picked all of the options that fulfill the wishes of the other person in the scenario, which would make you a good diplomat.
Lucky dragonstone
Right?? Isn’t the dragon stone pretty rare?
@@DrewTheKid_ Its 20%, its quite lucky to get it first try.
For farming I just logged in and out at the Farming Guild every session. I'd plant whatever I could there and do contracts. I didn't have to go out of my way but got some regular passive xp in. I now have 99 :)
This is one of the few quests where the obviously wrong dialogue is so tempting.
Sooo tempting 😂
"I think this guy's gone mental"
"Can I do anything to steal from him? No."
"Poor bloke" 😂
18:35 The fake maple tree is because overpowered plugins used to be able to tell you the current status of all your patches in the game no matter how far away you are, and so you would instantly know whether they were diseased, since the status of all patches was always available within the osrs client. The game now just gives fake information when you aren't close to the actual patch, and with various features that extend draw distance you can see this.
lol “overpowered” there’s literally a spell in game that does this that no one uses because it’s useless
@@jamesmorseman3180 it doesn't do it continuously and instantly notify you of anything going wrong, you don't use it because you can't do anything while it's open.
