Honestly one of the best series out there. So much fun to watch. Also a great source for Wiki edits. I've edited a few pages on the Wiki with information I found out through this episode. I won't spoil what exactly it is, because knowing the Wiki quite well, it's actually a matter of extrapolating other information that you don't have at the moment, but let's just say that the drop table for Sanfew was showing clean herbs as rewards, while they clearly are not rewarded in their clean form.
It's actually crazy how much time he's wasting to avoid farming, when he could be farming *during* all this as a backup plan. This is the quintessential farming-hater experience (I hated it too until I actually learned it)
i also used to hate farming, only ever did daily fruit tree runs on the old main till i started my ironman. Now i'm closing in on 93 farming and do multiple full allotment/flower/herb runs every day (as long as i have seeds) and i kinda love it... its such "fast" xp in terms of actual time spent and extremely useful on iron. Then again, my iron has completely renewed my love for osrs after quitting for a couple years. Iron is closing in on 2k total
to be completely fair when he is missing a lot of crucial teleports (which he wont know about unless he cheats or gets really lucky), and for whatever reason doesn't want to use notes to record his route/inventory layout (even without relying on a plugin to do it he can still write down notes), then farming is pretty fucking tedious. What to a normal player is a quick 5mins for 200k xp, would take him 30 mins to do and he would run out of seeds after 2 runs (because he isnt generating many seeds as he isn't doing birdhouses) And then birdhouses have their own issues, namely teleports. How the actual fuck will he ever discover the teleport there? It is the most convoluted shit using weird side content no one has touched before. Without said teleport, he would run from varrock every time. That turns a 2min birdhouse run into 5-10mins. And then the item required to make birdhouses ... yeah goodluck. So I fully understand the hate for farming. It's usually tolerable but given his extremely struct conditions, it is unbearably painful.
Man this is honestly one of my favourite series of all time, getting your train of thought is just so entertaining! As the game gets more complex, you might want to try actively exploring new areas you reach, or even ones you have already been to. Like checking out shops, skilling locations, minigame rewards, etc. whenever you find yourself in an area you're unfemiliar with. Just like the farming outfit you stumbled upon. You can get some pretty neat stuff from certain locations which might help you later on!
It is so funny to watch, passing by karamja right by the arena passing nature implings left and right to find magpies for sinister keys that give a set amount of herbs. I love your suffering.
I like how this "im questing without guides channel" has become a gardening TV show with a host who doesn't really know what the hell is goin on. Anyhow, love it and keep it coming. Your struggles make mine seem so much easier.
For those wondering and dont know (alien food, if you dont want spoilers or havent looked it up yourself, dont read on) - snapdragons were added to the game later than other herbs, along with toadflax. Snapdragon and toadflax were added in 2004 with the agility arena, and added to the farming skill when that was released. Nature imps would have worked eventually, but unfortunately AF stopped trying those The sinister key was released in 2002 and always gives the same herbs upon opening. Goutweed, herb boxes, and chaos druids dont give snapdragons because they roll from the standard herb drop table, which because that was before snapdragons existed, doesnt contain them or toadflax as a reward.
Legitimately did not understand that snapdragons are on a rare herb droptable because I have done some pvm. You taught me that today man. I love the increase in game knowledge. And I always do new quests Unguided. So much fun. Keep it up bruv! Keep fishin for the sack!
No spoilers, but there's lore reasons why you're not getting both Toadflax & Snapdragon herbs. They're not native to the areas of Gielinor you have been. When they are cultivated they quickly take over gardens and choke out other plants; they are a weed with little practical use to non-adventurers. All item sources are consistent with this lore which is very cool for most people.

It drives me up the wall to the check the wiki on things you’re doing and where you can get them and not tell you to preserve the integrity of the series. I love it all and commend you for everything you’re doing.
A big reason that Snapdragon is so much more rare is that it was actually released later, after most of the other herbs and after most of the content you tried was made. And Jagex never revisit old content to update droptables. Though that doesn't really explain why the herb boxes don't either, but that could be a balancing thing since Snapdragon is (was) the most expensive herb - partly because nothing dropped them before anyway.
Snapdragon was intentionally made more rare becuse super restores (along with sara brews) were considered precious endgame items, so the herbs that make them had to be more rare than the rest. That is why lantadyme (added in the same patch as snapdragon and toadflax) is not regular herb drop tables but the other two aren't As for why Jagex didn't add it to content after OSRS released, probably for the same reason all new Runecrafting methods are terrible xp - it's how it always was and they don't want to change it
@exantiuse497 Looking at the wiki, they have added other sources for Snapdragons, grimy and clean, but most of them seem to either be high-level PvM inaccessible to Alien Food right now, or obscure content that he probably doesn't know about and even if he does he has no reason to consider it as an option and keep at it long enough to get a drop. Haven't finished the video yet to see if/how he manages to get one, but I really hope some day he stumbles on the Agility Arena and realizes his multi day search and grind could have been a quick 30 minute task. I mean it's good content, but it'll be a frustrating discovery.
IIRC before farming was released, the only way to get toadflax and snaps was from the brimhaven agil mini game. They were the two special reward herbs that were separate from the regular herb drop table.
Snapdragons were added to RuneScape in 2004. Most of those herb sources were added in 2002 with the introduction of Herblore. That is why you can't find them on those drop tables.
I was planning on clicking this video, jumping through to get the info and dipping, now Im 25mins in and hooked. Damn you and your good content, I was supposed to sleep tonight 😂

I used to hate farming much in the same way that you do, preferring an active method over the passive runs, but when I made myself write down a route + inventory (either on runelite or physical notepaper) it got a lot better. I usually don't bother with protection and just let the compost do what it can. Hunter I don't think I'll ever like training, though.
No complaining about the points allowed, here. Used to be that you wouldnt get any points until you deposited 75 fruits, and you were limited to 100 seeds in the first place.
I've been looking forward to this! Especially after the grand finale of By Release, this is easily by far my favourite Runescape questing series running now.
The only logical progression to this is that eventually someone needs to do an Unguided By Release series lmao. Or maybe even a Group Ironman Unguided where you can at least bounce your ideas off of other people

My cat likes watching as well he sat on my lap and watched the whole thing with me, something he never normally does so thank you for helping relax my cat as well :)
(No spoilers/hints for Alien Food!) I used to really hate farming until I slowly changed the way I thought about it. I think it might help if you try not to view it as a "daily", which is a common sentiment I see among people who dislike the skill as well. It really isn't a daily! Just as how with other skills you usually decide when you want to do them, it can be the same with farming. One of the best parts of farming is you can do whatever you want. You don't have to do a daily tree run, you don't have to do an herb run, you can just do what you want. You don't gotta count down the seconds til your crops have grown. Honestly I came to love the skill because I realized this. You can leave your patches without harvesting them when they're fully grown so if you don't want to commit to doing another run just leave them unharvested. It's a skill that you do and then forget about it while you go do something like slayer or quests, and after you're done you get some big dopamine from seeing big xp drops when you harvest them later. Also, I REALLY recommend checking out the farming guild some time. You could really just delegate your farming to be in there and make a lot of progress.
So glad to see you uploaded a new episode! A couple of days ago I finished watching all previous episodes, I considered rewatching everything while waiting for the new upload, but here you are! Simultaneously super glad that Alien Food is taking these videos at a slower pace and not locking himself to his original 1 week schedule... and shaking in my seat fiending for the next episode.
What makes this series so great to watch for me, is that I don't play Runescape at all but lose watching good content on it. There's so much I don't have a clue about either, so I really understand your progress as I'm clueless!
Absolutely love this series. Guys way of playing scape is something else and a joy to watch along with. The amount of times I'm screaming at my TV over his choices is unreasonable though😅
I won't say where to specifically get Snapdragons, but I'm gonna flag this as a spoiler for an explanation as to why Snapdragon SPECIFICALLY is so rare, so for those curious, read on! ... Okay, so Snapdragon was not introduced to the game at the same time as the rest of herblore. It was a later addition in 2004, along with Toadflax. As such, all of the old sources of herbs from before that point - including chaos druids, the sinister chest and Sanfew's Goutweed trade-in - were not updated to give either Snapdragons or Toadflax, in order to incentivize players to play the new content introduced which would give them. As for newer content like herb boxes, I'm not specifically sure, but I think they were deliberately left off that drop list to maintain those herbs' value, considering they are used to make one of the most widely used late game potions in Super Restores, and since the herb boxes are the same boxes used by the Nightmare Zone it would introduce a MASSIVE number of these herbs into the game daily.
Goutweed was added almost half a year later than snapdragons. Wouldn't they have added snaps and toads to that if all they cared was people engaging with new content? I am convinced that the reason those two herbs are so rare is because Jagex wanted the potions they make - sara brew and super restore - to be exclusive and valuable, and that's why they made the herbs artificially more scarce than the rest
@@exantiuse497 Ah that makes sense. I knew toadflax and snapdragons were introduced later but I didn't look up when Goutweed was added. Thanks for the correction!
Such quality content and commentating! You're literally trying to get a snapdragon and I'm enjoying my time watching you. Also an idea, you should mark down every item you had a lot trouble getting and if/when you finish the account make a video where you check the wiki how to get said items efficiently. The face palming of that video would definately be worth a watch.
The best part of this series is that I’m staring at wiki with full realization of what I’m reading. For my farming run I have a seed bag for all my seeds and the only things I replace is things that don’t restock and I never do flowers
The thing with snapdragons and toadflaxes is that, when they were first introduced, they were available only as rewards from a specific piece of content (which was released on the same day as the herbs). Later, when Farming was finally added to the game, Snaps and Toads were made available thru Farming, but were not added to any PvM herb drop tables
That was probably the worst best episode that sums up this account. You have a 100% guaranteed way of getting a snapdragon but you do weeks of anything but that. Well good thing you bought all those crap herb boxes cuz you’re gonna need those herbs lol
"caught a bunch of nature imps" we see on the magic butterfly net early in the video he got 12 before giving up on them for magpies- hardly enough to see even its whole common drop table with any amount of luck,

Fellow farming hater. I laughed at the 46 quest requirement for fairy tale pt 2. Said "I'm never getting that done"
I now have 21m farming xp
@@bleh192837 Nice, i had the same experience.
This game feels like its made for Ironman mode tbh.
Im 2115 totall getting close to max cape
to be completely fair when he is missing a lot of crucial teleports (which he wont know about unless he cheats or gets really lucky), and for whatever reason doesn't want to use notes to record his route/inventory layout (even without relying on a plugin to do it he can still write down notes), then farming is pretty fucking tedious. What to a normal player is a quick 5mins for 200k xp, would take him 30 mins to do and he would run out of seeds after 2 runs (because he isnt generating many seeds as he isn't doing birdhouses)
And then birdhouses have their own issues, namely teleports.
Watching him buy herb boxes was fucking painful ngl.
It is so funny to watch, passing by karamja right by the arena
passing nature implings left and right to find magpies for sinister keys that give a set amount of herbs.
I love your suffering.
And then he goes on suffer through tithe without the speedy strategy, because tithe is now always insuranced and he can't see anyone to learn from.
honestly his fertilizer method isn't even that bad, but using only one watering can is so painful
@@JollyVGthat was the first thing he mentioned
The fact that he spent hours in Puro Puro and didn’t catch all the nature imps hurt my soul.
Never click on a video faster than when I see unguided pop up. This series is like crack
aw man i was hoping the medium karamja task would make you look at the other karamja medium diary tasks
Wow that would have been a crazy butterfly effect to lead him in the right direction
This man knows when to upload perfectly
I like how this "im questing without guides channel" has become a gardening TV show with a host who doesn't really know what the hell is goin on. Anyhow, love it and keep it coming. Your struggles make mine seem so much easier.
40:05 Is literally a pure gambling mentality with that phrase and I'm all for it
For those wondering and dont know (alien food, if you dont want spoilers or havent looked it up yourself, dont read on) - snapdragons were added to the game later than other herbs, along with toadflax. Snapdragon and toadflax were added in 2004 with the agility arena, and added to the farming skill when that was released.
Nature imps would have worked eventually, but unfortunately AF stopped trying those
The sinister key was released in 2002 and always gives the same herbs upon opening.
Goutweed, herb boxes, and chaos druids dont give snapdragons because they roll from the standard herb drop table, which because that was before snapdragons existed, doesnt contain them or toadflax as a reward.
It’s actually so stupid they haven’t updated the herb table
Worse part was that the agility arena has snapdragons for sale :(
this might be the most frustrating episode of this series so far. nice work!
Bruh it hurt so much knowing wat drops em
The MVP of OSRS uploads is back!
Just spent the whole week bingeing this series every day after work. What your doing is genuinely so important to me, it's like watching a mirror image of my first experiences playing this game back in 2006,, and made even better that my wife (whose never played rs before) is hooked on it too and loving all of it!
Thanks so much to the both of you for the support! I absolutely love to hear people enjoying the series and even moreso when it’s multiple people watching together! Thanks again
How does this man avoid spoilers, willpower of a saint/Shaolin monk combined
I feel like that ending basically defined Runescape for lots of us. And we just keep coming back lol. Loving the series. I just binged all the episodes and now I'm finally caught up to the current one. I can't wait to see your next shenanigans, although I have to now lol. Good luck dude!
Just as with the planks and lamp oil, I spend the episode screaming at the screen. The urge to slip you some hints keeps growing. I must resist.
That is why lantadyme (added in the same patch as snapdragon and toadflax) is not regular herb drop tables but the other two aren't
As for why Jagex didn't add it to content after OSRS released, probably for the same reason all new Runecrafting methods are terrible xp - it's how it always was and they don't want to change it
@exantiuse497 Looking at the wiki, they have added other sources for Snapdragons, grimy and clean, but most of them seem to either be high-level PvM inaccessible to Alien Food right now, or obscure content that he probably doesn't know about and even if he does he has no reason to consider it as an option and keep at it long enough to get a drop.
Lantadyme was released with RS2, Snaps were added 4 months later. @exantiuse497
this is the best osrs series out rn. it's not even close. im so ecstatic every time i open yt and alien food is on my front page.
Snapdragons were added to RuneScape in 2004. Most of those herb sources were added in 2002 with the introduction of Herblore. That is why you can't find them on those drop tables.
thats a shitty excuse for it. if you add item to the game then ADD it to the game and not just 1 spot you can get them like a lazy bum jagex is
I was planning on clicking this video, jumping through to get the info and dipping, now Im 25mins in and hooked.
Damn you and your good content, I was supposed to sleep tonight 😂
Its so funny watching him legit dodge the best item for helping his grind in the watering can so heavily. Like man did not even bring it up cause he thinks its worthless when it would have saved him about half his time on the grind
The drip was more important to him and I respect it
@@clairehickey9368 oh I meant after the drip when he went over what he could get at the end.
Hello Mr. Food, I just wanted to say thank you for making this series. I've just moved in to a new place and I heard about you in one of J1mmy's last By Release episodes. In the last few weeks I've watched every episode and when times have got a bit lonely, watching you complete these quests has been deeply amusing, greatly inspiring and also fantastic company. The subtle comedic work that goes into these videos never fails to put a smile on my face, and there is an unmatched cosy vibe to your videos that I've not found anywhere else. So excited to follow along as you release the episodes now! Cheers for all the hard work.
Thanks so much for the lovely comment
@@AlienFoodage You're welcome, and thank you for getting back to me! That's very kind of you. I'm settling great thanks, rooting for you through your painful farming grind 😅
genuinely addicted to this series
This series was one to finally push me to finish idly tending my RS3 account and finally take the plunge and start over in Old School. And it's great, apart from the walking. Dear god, the walking.
Babe, wake up, new Unguided just dropped
*wakes up*
Oh, nice! 😊
Snapdragons released in 2004. Most of members' area (including most of herblore and the herbs) released in 2002.
Farming isn't strictly needed though - you just haven't found a drop source/skilling source
All that grinding to realize you can't clean the grimy snapdragon at the end.
I feel so bad for laughing.
Alien food, if it weren't for you, i wouldnt have touched RS at all this year, I'd have skipped leagues too
Every one of your videos makes the game seem so fun and you're really reminding me of the right way to play this game
Absolute gem of a channel
That last herb box was absolutely trying to send him a message, save him from himself hahaha
Edit: It wasn't his last...
Once again the best series on TH-cam. Another great episode. Please never stop being yourself. It’s so entertaining 😂
I've been looking forward to this! Especially after the grand finale of By Release, this is easily by far my favourite Runescape questing series running now.
The only logical progression to this is that eventually someone needs to do an Unguided By Release series lmao. Or maybe even a Group Ironman Unguided where you can at least bounce your ideas off of other people
i'm finally caught up after discovering this series and i'm so happy i can watch these as they pop into my feed now!!
also it made me so happy to see you enjoying tithe farm! it's easily my favorite minigame and i also am not a huge farming fan LMAO. funny how that works
Me since last episode: "Huh, maybe Alien Food knows some big brain way to clean herbs without the herb level?"
It exists, but whether or not he knows is another question lol
@jrk41599 He has talked to the NPC needed to clean herbs before.
@@jrk41599 Given his reaction at the end, he almost certainly doesn't lmao
My cat likes watching as well he sat on my lap and watched the whole thing with me, something he never normally does so thank you for helping relax my cat as well :)
sweet! new Unguided! *clears schedule for the next 45 minutes*
(No spoilers/hints for Alien Food!)
I used to really hate farming until I slowly changed the way I thought about it.
Nothing like unguided and beef stew in the morning
This man is possibly the only person in history to actually trade in goutweed with Sanfew. Amazing content.
Guys come and watch the legend Alien food is on!
So glad to see you uploaded a new episode! A couple of days ago I finished watching all previous episodes, I considered rewatching everything while waiting for the new upload, but here you are! Honestly such a good and unique series, it got me hooked, it’s so fun to watch you explore and enjoy the game. Going to grab some snacks now and chill for 47 mins :)
One day you are going to know, and on that day I want you to remember that I knew, and because I knew, I screamed at the screen for around 45 minutes.
The last 30 seconds of this video is why I love this series and why I love OSRS. 😆
"guam, guam, guam, gaum...." you get what you deserve!!! lol
Quality 10/10 episode, I knew the snappy D cleaning incident was coming and it did not disappoint!
This is exactly what I needed today. Fuckin' get that herb man.
I thought about how you were going to clean the herbs since the last episode and since forgot it was an issue. Your reaction to realizing you couldn't do it was absolutely heartbreaking and simultaneously the funniest thing. Looking forward to the herbalism grind!
Looks like you've officially gotten too big to safely read comments, lots of people with little spoilers here and there. Unfortunate, but I'm really happy for your success. Great ep :)
Alien might be the first person in history to prefer Tithe Farm over regular farming
Just elevated my friday night thanks man
Simultaneously super glad that Alien Food is taking these videos at a slower pace and not locking himself to his original 1 week schedule... and shaking in my seat fiending for the next episode.
Appreciate the understanding my friend, it’s definitely helping me make each episode more entertaining than before I hope!
Cant believe the snapdragon arc is going for a 3rd episode 😂😂😂
The best part of this series is that I’m staring at wiki with full realization of what I’m reading.
For my farming run I have a seed bag for all my seeds and the only things I replace is things that don’t restock and I never do flowers
Ooh boy we're back
The thing with snapdragons and toadflaxes is that, when they were first introduced, they were available only as rewards from a specific piece of content (which was released on the same day as the herbs).
I laughed out loud multiple times. this is the best osrs series going right now. GET IN!!!
"caught a bunch of nature imps" we see on the magic butterfly net early in the video he got 12 before giving up on them for magpies- hardly enough to see even its whole common drop table with any amount of luck,
I saw that ending coming the whole time lmao. Love it.
lmfao that last herb box from tithe was so fucking sad
i love how every time he mentioned a new way to potentially getting a snapdragon i look up if its actually possible and it always makes me smile
Bro the ending. I thought about this earlier, I'm dead
The delight of knowing the answer but watching someone try to figure it out on their own.
he was so close to the guy that actually drops the thing. those warriors are like 3 rooms away from the mini boss
