    Man, great review! I live in Brazil and the Mackbook's price is incredible higher. I got my Dell XPS and I am very excited.

      Também escolhi o XPS, pois a configuração compatível do Mac iria para a casa dos R$ 20.000 (US$ 3.795). Só louco para comprar Mac no Brasil.

    This is so helpful, thank you. I am a former mac IT student (yes, macs do have an IT world!) and I loved my experience with my own mac . I have been thinking about switching over to Windows to pick up remote IT work, but my heart lies in the creative world of macs and how they excel in a user experience. As our IT director said, "Macs just work."
    Your honest opinion and apples-to-apples comparison really helped me a lot. Thank you!!!

    Isn't the MacBook Pro with 4 thunderbolt ports more suited for this comparison? It's only $100 more than the config you have and it has a 10th gen processor, LPDDR4x memory, more vents, etc.

    I was wondering since you made the upgrades on the Macbook, why didn’t you just get the 1799 model of the Pro, it would’ve been a little more but you could’ve gotten much better performance, another cooling fan, better speakers, better longevity, etc.

    • @benomac13

      Also a more even comparison.

    • @deucexx733
      @deucexx733 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The performance is not much better actually. On paper it is but it reality it’s the same. Cooling is not better. Speakers are the exact same. And longevity is the same.

    You could have gotten MBP 13 with 10th gen i5 16gb RAM and 512gb ssd for the same price you paid upgrading the base model. I think it's not worth paying to upgrade the base model MBP because you get closer to the 10th gen version.

    I also wish that other laptops would follow Apple on resolution. 4K is too high for 13 and 15 inch laptops.

    I'm interested to know what the battery is like if your run a clean Linux-based OS. This is one of the advantages of XPS: there's actual support for drivers and firmware for Linux.
    I dual boot Windows and Ubuntu on a 3-year-old Inspiron Dell laptop, and whenever I visit Windows it gets loud and drains the battery much faster. Windows is truly garbage, but Dell's lapstops offer a much better alternative - especially for us programmers.

      interesting thought, haven't really delved into Linux but it'll be interesting to see how much benefit you could squeeze out of this laptop when utilizing a Linux-based OS

    does the xps run its fans at weird times (i.e. sometimes when it doesn't even appear to be under load?). I've heard some have this issue but thought perhaps some bios updates had fixed it by now. Also have you hooked up to an external monitor, and does the laptop stay quiet and does the monitor connection work well (no flicker - again another issue another reviewer identified watching youtube videos while connected to monitor)

    • @smariko3
      @smariko3  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only issue I have had with the fans are when they start to run full tilt because windows security is doing it's background check or occasionally when I disconnect it from the eGPU because it doesn't know which display driver to pick. Normally, its quiet. The monitor I've only ever tried with a eGPU and I don't get flickering there. If I do get a chance to try it without, I'll let you know of my results (need to get a usb-c to hdmi adapter lol)

  • @mrbrunowolff

    I was so ready to pull the trigger on the 9300 (i7, fhd+ non touch) but after seeing TONS of people having issues with mainly the fan noise/"burning hot" keyboard/deck, weird flickering when connecting the charger, trackpad acting by itself, sound devices not working after the first connection and other weird things... I decided to check other models/brands knowing that they would fail in other aspects. Your XPS videos made me think about the 9300 again. Yes, it's not perfect but I don't think you had all those issues, right?
    Are you running all the dell bloatware? Do you use any "driver update" tool like the Intel Driver assistant or Driver Booster?
    Also, I'm a bit curious about the keyboard rattle when playing sounds... can you detail that? (I don't really use laptop speakers but the fact that it rattles so easily may annoy me)

    • @bigdisme5622
      @bigdisme5622 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have none of these issues

    • @ThisBeanTofu
      @ThisBeanTofu 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have none of those issues as well. 🤦🏻‍♂️ the XPS will always be a beast. Lol

    • @starmorpheus
      @starmorpheus 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These issues are few and far between. I did experience flickering and I blue screened once. But a BIOS update from dell, and my tinkering with the display settings solved those problems. The Battery life is the biggest issue for me, usually lasting around 4 - 6 hours max. A far cry from its marketed 11.5 hours of light use. The charger is lightweight enough that it's not too big of an issue, but it's something to keep in mind.
      I would recommend that you go to your Power settings (Right click on the battery icon and selected Power Options) and change what happens when you close the lid to 'Hibernate' that pretty much resolves the battery drain issue for when your laptop is sleeping. Of course it'll take a few more seconds than normal to boot up, but rather that then have your battery drop 20 perfect overnight.
      Hope this helps :D
