This man is a national treasure . He should be so honored while still alive & allowed to bask , once again , in the national spotlight . He has the gift of 100% pure God given talent , and the grit & balls to drive that fact home . To see this ( now ) old man perform on stage is a thing of wonder . What he can do with a fiddle or a squeezebox / guitar / anything with strings is amazing .I agree with Jerry ... GO SEE HIM , WHILE YOU STILL CAN . May God Bless Mr. Kershaw in his golden years .
I grew up in the 60’s listening to this man’s music and loved it. He needs to be honored for his accomplishments and his contributions to Zydeco music and it’s heritage.
I saw him by accident in a county fair show in California.....I’m born and raised and will pass in the same town in California....but I let out that Cajun yell....and he stopped the show....it was soooo fun...
40 years ago I won tickets to see him play with Micky Gilly and Willy Nelson at a place called After Dark in Lockport New York. Wow what a concert up close in a bar when they all where in there prime. All these years later I can recall it like it was yesterday.
Doug Kershaw is one of my heroes!!! I love fiddling and Zydeco, I love music so much and Doug is one of the best musicians I have ever seen. He’s one of a kind talented artist who I adore!!!
This Mamou Two-Step was played in the Heaven's Gate rink in the Kris Kristofferson movie, Heaven's Gate. It is a wonderful fun scene of people roller skating to it, and then Kris and the lady dancing to it. Look it up!
Doug Kershaw, Buckwheat , Rufus Jaganeaux, Clifton Chenier, no it doesn't get any better than that and Prayers that the Music Style, Cajun, Zydego and Bayou Boogie never die but keep getting resurrected for the next generation, I have Cajuns all around, young and old and have a great grandbaby who I am going to teach also.
I grew up in Lake Charles and had several occasions to watch Doug. There were a few concerts when he had the right crowd he would play whatever he wanted. I saw some almost Jimi Hendrix style solos on the violin. An amazing, versatile musician.
My mom was a Kershaw and we asked, as a joke, if she was related. She asked, "Is he musical and does he have a big nose?" We said yes and she figured she was. She wasn't, of course, but it would have been fun.
Ooo he plays the accordion indeed!! :) And he's great! I have his cd here called "Two Step Fever", entire CD, 14 tracks, of his magnificent accordion playing! Don't miss that one!! :)
Tell you this,if nobody gets cajun or zydeco music well I'm afraid to say that they have died!.😂 because your feet can't help themselves! and I'm from the UK,Scotland where the fiddle and the violin are the main instruments after the bagpipes (but the less said about them the better)😂 But this music is rip roaring stuff and thank you for sharing your music with the rest of the wold!.😊
Cajun/zydeco and Acadian/Quebec music are so similar, even though the 2 groups split so long ago. There's a Quebec group called Le Bottine Souriante who play music like this.
Douglas James Kershaw is an American fiddle player, singer and songwriter from Louisiana. Active since 1948, he began his career as part of the duo Rusty and Doug, along with his brother, Rusty Kershaw. He is 84 now and still plays!

Unfortunately if you play the fiddle it doesn't go over well anymore.
...it's very hard to play the violin...AKA, the fiddle.
Cajun music can turn a frown into a smile.

LUCKY MAN!
Wow, you were blessed. Lucky you
Lockport Air Force Sta. 1966-67. Really cold for a boy from Florida.
I would love to have been there
I may be Old School but, Doug Kershaw is still the best of all Cajun Performers and Jo El is right up there with Doug in my opinion.
For me it isn't "Old School" - its very fresh and in style ... I say it as a European, german born ... 🙂
Saw him in Tahoe, bought every one of his cds on the way out. Still love this music, he’s the best.
We saw him in Reno in '86, great, great show

This man can handle one mean violin, he's the best.
The difference between a violin &fiddle.violin has strings, fiddle has straangs.
Yes he can
Robert Fredette no but he can play the hell out of a fiddle
The Best of the Best
Just gotta like this guy and his music. Such a good feeling.

Yup....throw in the Cajun roots from Acadia in the Canadian maritimes....and thus, the ENORMOUS musical contribution of the French to the Americas!
