@@Kraftium I'm a pretty jaded and cynical Fate fan, I only like the old stuff, a lot of the spin offs to me might aswell not exist, so its nice to play Samurai Remnant and it reminding me a bit of what I liked about Fate to begin with. It's obviously nowhere near on the level of the original VN or Fate/Zero, but it's a fun game and I definitely prefer it to most of the shit that has came out in recent years.

@@Kraftium I haven't seen it yet, but I do plan on watching it. Waver and Rider are among my favorite characters, so seeing what Waver is up to as a mage professor is pretty intriguing. If you want something else Type-Moon related worth checking out, the Kara no Kyoukai movies are a must. They're slow burn, atmospheric thrillers animated by the same studio behind Fate/Zero, definitely worth watching.

Tiny note! Iori is also a real life historical figure, one of Musashi's four adopted sons (all of whom went on to be famous swordsmen in their own right). Yui Shousetsu and Zheng Chenggong are also historical figures of the period. I'm pretty certain game Iori is younger than real life Iori, though - the game is set in 1651, when Iori would have been 39; irl he was also a veteran of the Shimabara Rebellion (1637-38), but the dialogue makes it clear that game Iori was never there (and is not notably older, if at all older, than the other character in the game that was in that rebellion as a child).
oh yeah I found out about iori while I was editing, guess I shouldn't be surprised I kinda assumed zheng was a real person too very interesting tho reminds me of rasputin showing up in raidou kuzunoha even tho he should be dead during the taisho period
Unexpected review, but as a resident Fate fan I am just glad you had a good time If you ever feel like giving the franchise another go, they just remade Witch on the Holy Night, a VN which was never actually released even in japan, for PS4 and PC and it is quite good In terms of being a VN, the production value is absurd

@@Kraftium yeah it's a full remake for the extra timeline. It's taking a long time cause it's from studio BB (type moons first in house major game production studio) and it's their first game so they are trying to make sure everything is set up for release to make good first impression

I don't think it is (I only know a bit of touhou music) but I'm also not sure what music I used for this video cos I know barely any fate music I think I used some yakuza kenzan and ishin music due to the time period but yeah either way i'm glad you enjoyed, thanks for subscribing :D
Pretty nice review. Two things; 1: Iori gets more characterisation in NG+, with the game also letting you fast forward through anything that isn't new, so it's worth beating the game a second time for another ending. 2: loud incorrect buzzer, Saber is not a woman, they're genderless. People use pronouns for them in-universe based on assumptions but their character entry never updates to confirm and this gender nonconformity is preserved in their FGO profile.
It's nice to see a fellow dmc fan (at least I assume since I got recommend your dmc videos) trying out a fate game, I can understand being skeptical or just not taking it seriously with the franchise, especially since the bulk of it's popularity in the west came from F/GO but it'd be nice if you could give some more consideration with it's combat mechanics, specifically considering the afterglow mechanic and it's kinda directed by the same dude that made the Nioh games possible. Now it's not to say the review was bad or anything but considering the comparison to P5 Strikers/Scramble I'm a bit surprised that dodging and riposting just doesn't get anything said on it.... Anyway thanks for reading but I do regret it when the combat in these games aren't taken seriously.
Thanks for commenting I really appriciate it as for not address stuffs I'll say I should of probably just called this video "first impressions" than an actual review which is why I didn't go super indepth, i had like 4 days to get through as much as I could and then make the vid but I definately enjoy the fact team omega have been using the musou base to make actual action rpg's instead of their typical battlefield management sims, and stuff like the afterglow (i'm assuming thats the buffs you get when stance changing at the right time right?) are pretty cool, and while I'll always enjoy dodging and riposts i did feel like they were a bit clunking in samurai remnant (not to an awful degree but I've felt better mor vicsral versions in other games) Still I'm glad I played this game, its definately up there with zero for me (reminds me I need to watch that long haired adult waver spinoff)

That explains why and yes afterglows are what you get either through ripostes, keeping up a stance for a certain amount of time or managing to keeping up attacks to accelerate the glow's activation. Gotta admit wasn't expecting a response and so soon too sooo... thanks for reading and responding. Iori summoned Yamato Takeru, one if not the most renown legendary Japanese hero from mythical age. Not only he's extremely well known among the Japanese, he;s old as it can get for a Japanese hero. Iori summoned THAT Yamato Takeru in Japan, the fame boost gotta be absurdly crazy and it shows. Saber never struggle, hurt or even lose against anyone in FSR.
I always get frustrated with depictions of Musashi Miyamoto. He used two swords because he was left handed and all swordfighting was based around right handed fighters. I have no idea how they're going to explain this in the Onimusha anime series that's coming to Netflix. I guess they're used to getting history wrong. Sorry, rant over. Just commenting for the Al Gore rhythm. This was the perfect length of review on this game. Extremely concise and practical. Good work! 😃👍

Play FGO too or at least read through the story on youtube/watch a let's play, past the first few chapters it's great and the main reason to play it plus Shimousa is already finished in it and it has more Musashi even outside of just that chapter
Here's a totally unnecessary trivia : That manga, and the chapter from FGO it's based on is not prequel for FSR... it's actually the sequel. FSR Musashi is Musashi before the event in Shimosa since she has yet perfected her [ ] (void) sword as stated in FSR. Shimousa is where she perfected her [ ] sword so chronologically (if that have any meaning that is) it happens after FSR.
I don’t know how far you’ve gotten in the game, but Iori’s character is much more interesting than he’s originally portrayed. You get more info on his actual personality if you play through NG+.
As a big Fate fan, it's nice to have a Fate game that I can comfortably call "solid"

The fact that most servants aren’t actually playable killed my interest
