    Dear Christian and Vera, thank you so much for these lovely vids, I have only just discovered your channel. You are both a lovely couple and it is so nice to see a couple who get on so well together. Christian is the Englishmans idea of a typical German with his precision and attention to detail and Vera is just such a lovely woman, always smiling and happy and laughing at her husbands "jokes". Please keep the vids coming and thank you again. Paul from Liverpool.

    Hey another great video as usual 😁
    I’m apprehensive about putting any advice in the comments as your knowledge far exceeds mine , but here goes
    Iv had great success by using an “electric hot air gun” to gently warm plastic parts such as multi plugs or plastic casing clips etc.
    It makes them much much more supple and easy to work with with and almost removes completely the fear of breaking them.
    Hope this is of some use to someone out there 👍🏻

Your English in impeccable, I am really pleased that you corrected yourself re: the bonnet, almost as bad as calling the boot a trunk! but as an aside, a muffler is a silencer in 'English' and you did well not to labour the point that you re-installed the FBH on your own :-)

    Great videos Christian and Vera. I have something that you can do. I dont know the laws in Germany, but I went out during lockdown, got myself a gate control receiver and put a lightbar and two spotlights on the roof rack. This was due to the fact that I dont like wires through the firewall. So now its operated via a gate remote. Land Rovers are just fun and east.

    Hi Christian and Vera. Another great video. May I ask why these engines need a FBH to get to temperature? Usually you just have a thermostat in the cooling circuit that opens when the engine reaches its operating temperature. Never heard of a FBH before.

    Luckily we don't need the FBH here in Aus so that frees up space for a compressor or third battery, although i camp more in winter so it may be handy when it drops below 0c.
    I have camped in minus 6.7c which was fine with double sleeping bags and a large dog for warmth , a big fire and plenty of beer :)

    Did this a little bit different: undid the 10mm clamp on pipe connecting the muffler to the fbh, then undid the 3 torx holding the fbh to the front-bracket and left the bracket and the muffler in the car. Spent some time removing the cap on the bottom of the fbh, only to find that was the heat exchanger and that I had to remove the top instead. 😉

    Hello both, amazingly helpful videos! Do the coolant and fuel systems require bleeding after the heater has been put back into the vehicle? Thanks!

    • @Vera_and_Christian
      @Vera_and_Christian  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The coolant system has a bleed screw on to of the reservoir. You do need to refill the coolant a few times. The diesel heater will take a few start attempts till the air is out. No problem. With the GAP tool, you can trigger a prime routine but it is not mandatory.

  • @timwilliams2343

    If you want unpaved (gravel) roads you needn't go as far as Australia, we have (by my rough estimate) about 220,000km here in Finland - some of which are rated at 80kmh so no trouble for a Discovery3. And some used for a rally ... they run a bit quicker.

    Thank you for adding more and more videos, i bought LR3 two years ago, i live in Norway and my diesel heater stopped working after 2 o 3 times, now this video gives me confidence to do maintenance by my self on a heater, but i need to know one detail, i saw video on russian chanel that in order to heater to start climate control in the car needs to be off, is that correct? Big thank you from cold Norway :)

    • @Vera_and_Christian
      @Vera_and_Christian  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The heater will only run if the engine runs and the coolant temp is below 75° and the outside temp is 6° or less. It does not matter if the climate control or interior heat is on or off - it is automatic and there is no way to see if it is running or not (except by feeling hot air on the exhaust pipe). If the heater is broken and it is belopw freezing, the car will take forever to heat up and the needle will never reach center (especially in Norway, I guess :)

    Question ... I use BG244 diesel cleaner regularly - one can about every 5,000 miles (8-10,000km). This really keeps the engine clean and reliable. Would this also clean the FBH at the same time, so you would not have to do a strip-down of the FBH?

    • @Vera_and_Christian
      @Vera_and_Christian  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello John, I think a diesel cleaner is to remove residue out of the fuel lines and injectors. I think it does not effect the combustion. But I am no expert. I did not have issues with the fuel lines (I did change the fuel filter before).

    Ein klein bisschen Kritik muss ich anbringen, nach 13 Jahren wo ich meinen Disco 3 fahre.
    Der Zuheizer lässt sich auch ohne unter das Auto zu tauchen herausnehmen.
    Dazu kann man den Wasseranschluss direkt vom FBH abschrauben auch den Auspuff direkt an der Schelle gelöst.
    Die Verkleidung vom ABS Gehäuse ausklippsen dann hat man freien Zugang zu den 3 Schrauben die den FBH an der hinteren Halterung fixieren.
    Die vordere Halterung am Kühlwasserbehälter lösen, dort sind es auch 3 Schrauben.
    Kabel ab und dann auf die Werkbank, Ersatzbrenner gibt es in den UK zwischen 150 und 200 Pfund. Mein FBH hat nach 34000 Zündungen jetzt einen neuen bekommen zündet fast unhörbar und ohne Qualm.
    English:
    After 13years that i own my Disco 3...
    You acn remove the FBH without diving under your car, just release the Cover from the ABS Block or if righthand driven the Batterie Cover. from there you hav axess to the 3 Bolts that the FBH is mountet to his rear Bracket.
    Release the one screw from the Water Manifold and the clamp on the Exaustport.
    Losen the Coolanttank from the you have axcess to the 3 Screws that mounts the FBH to its Frontbracket.
    Losen the Cables and of to the Workbench.
    Spareburners can you buy cheaply in the UK eg on Island4x4 or advanced factors.
    If you are interrested how i use my FBH to prewarm the Engine and Cabin in the Winter let me know.
    Thanks for the Videos

    Hi!
    I just found your channel, great job!!
    I’m hoping you might be able to help me figure out the problem with my Land Rover LR3 08
    The hazards lights come on and it says system is shutting down and the instrument cluster stops working and sometimes after 5 minutes it goes back to normal like if nothing happened.
    I took it to a shop and they fixed a module but that didn’t fix the problem at all. I’m thinking it’s a bad instrument cluster. What do you think??
    I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you in advance!!

    • @Vera_and_Christian
      @Vera_and_Christian  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a tough one. I would not take it to a shop. I would get me the hayes manual and take appart te entire instrument cluster and clean and inspect all cables and connectors. I would also inspect the ECU connections carefully. I am sure the instrument cluster lost connection and this fault would be locked also in the OBD2. This is probaply why the shop changed a module.
      Maybe your car had a water damage or excessive sun on the dash or any other harsh conditions which let the instrument cluster or cables age. Be carefull disasembling the cluster not to break everything. It´s a big job. I did not do this on the LR3 but on our Freelander. Hope you can find the issue.

    Take it not all lr3's don't come with these? Does it preheat the engine? Or does it blow warm air through the vents

Does it get the engine upto temperature so when you start it does it blow out warm air straight away? Your videos are great by the way 👍

    The diesel heater on my Jag 2.7 doesn't come on and I don't know why. I can force it on with a diagnostic tool, but the car doesn't instruct it to switch on. The only thing I can find is that my oiI temp sensor is permanently reading -40 deg C, so there is something wrong with it. Could this be the reason?

      Certainly not. But I do have a good general understanding of technology. I also read the Repair manual and research TH-cam before I start a repair. I think the LR3 is ok compared with other full size European SUVs in these build years.

    Hi Vera & Christian - have you found out if the interior is made out of real leather or not? :)

    • @Vera_and_Christian
      @Vera_and_Christian  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the seat surface, sides and head rest are real leather. It is a bit worn on the driver seat and there is no fabric below. It has the appearance of real leather. I think the back of the front seats and the pouch is artificial. The rear seats are real also I would say.
