    Old Spray Paint Gun Restoration | Mister Patina
    In this Video im restoring an old Spray Paint Gun, made in the GDR/DDR - eastern Germany. I bought this Spray Gun online from a private guy. When i received it, the gun was very sticky and made strange noises while operating it. Time to restore this old beauty! I started with a gentle disassembly because this spray gun is mostly made of aluminum, a very soft metal. After disassembling i continued with washing all the dirty parts, to get rid of some loosen dirt and other stuff. Just washing it wasnt so effective, so i gave the parts a second bath in washing gasoline/petrol/white spirit to get rid of old paint and other stubborn dirt. Most of the parts came out really clean, some other parts needed to get deepcleaned with the wirebrush. After wirebrushing the main body part, i inspected the parts and detected some defects on the nozzle lock, a brass screw and other small parts. Time to test my new lathe mill. As iam a newby on the lathe mill, please dont be to critical with me, iam still learning. Some other parts were also put in the lathe, not for milling, but just for cleaning and sanding them with sanding paper and scotch brite. The parts and screws turned out really nice, so the most of them got polished on the benchgrinder afterwards, for a nice mirror finish and a nice even surface for good operation. The Main Body and the paint cup were just sanded and wirebrushed, because of a strange texture of the surface i didnt want to polish them. Now the parts are ready for reassembling, i didnt use any grease for it, because grease/vinyl/silicone would react badly with paint. I bought an air connector to connect the spray paint gun to my air compressor for the final test. In the test the paint gun showed, that its working perfectly fine. The Paint flow control and the air flow control doing a nice job and i sprayed some water to show you the final result.
    Thanks for watching!

    This is actually a great way to get a paint sprayer. They are pretty bomb proof. Worst you’ll find is a nagging air leak you can’t track down or some goober left some hardcore enamel in it and clogged up the nozzle. Older guns tend to feel nicer in the hand as they have some weight to them and are just built with higher quality parts.

    • @jugheadjones5458
      @jugheadjones5458 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got one a year ago, took it apart to clean it and lost a packing ring and o ring where the needle goes into the handle. Took forever to find the distributor. I asked for the parts and since it was still under warranty they sent me a new gun. I even admitted it was my fault. So I have 2 identical guns and would still like to fix the one. Just can’t find the parts. But I still bought 2 new ones in a kit and a cheap small one. I’ve got 4 and I really enjoy using them on guitars. They really do a great job and I’m still learning how to use them. I’d like an old one like in the video. Did I hear air leaking when the hose was first attached? Nicely done!

    Very nice, man! It's weird because I've been wondering a few things lately:
    First: Who graffitied the side of my house?
    Second: Why would someone bring an air compressor (and leave it behind seemingly on accident) and graffiti my house with a proper spray gun when they could have just used a can of spray paint?
    Third: Who in their right mind puts a 1/1 scale sticker of Nicolas Cage's head on their absolutely vile lime green colored air compressor?
    After seeing this I'm pretty sure I have the answer to all those questions. You can have your air compressor back once I'm done repainting it.
    Oh, also a huge congratulations to hitting that 10,000 subscriber mile marker! Or I guess it would technically be more fitting if I said kilometer marker. Well now that I've completely confused myself I'll take my leave.

      Oil based paint was used in gun thats why gas worked so well if it would have been a water based gun then it would have need a water based cleaner

    Think it‘s from the former GDR because of the TGL - logo ("Technischen Normen, Gütevorschriften").

    Nice refurbishing. I can't see why anyone would allow a paint gun to get into that condition to start with. I have a set of name brand paint guns that I have used a lot over the past ten years or more and they look spotless and like new to this day. Not even a fingerprint on them when I put them away. I clean the paint gun instantly after finish spraying anything. Easier to clean while the item you painted is drying/curing then to let it go until later...that never happens. Thumbs Up!

    I've noticed you use a drill press adapter stand- I have wanted to get one to save on buying a drill press; have you had a good experience using yours? And what type do you have?
