    I run a lawn cutting service. Before I install brand new blades I take a light grind cut off the blade edge more or less just to remove the paint. If you run your finger on the new blade edge with the paint on you'll notice that it's not very sharp. Sharp blades result in a smooth appearance on the grass that a dull blade can't give you. I retouch the edge on my blades many times each week. I have many sets of blades so when I change I simply take off dull and replace with a sharp one. I do it on the machine and 10-15 minutes I'm done. One of the secrets to a nice looking lawn is using sharp blades when cutting. Trust me clients can tell the difference. AND they tip better.

    I did this quite easily without detaching the mower deck or even jacking the front end up. Just raise the mower deck up all the way and it will give you just enough room to work. You definitely will need the blade stopper tool which I bought at Lowe’s for 11 bucks.

    What??? There's a brake stopper?? I have a cub cadet and kept using pieces of wood to stop the blades from turning...I'm going to check mine!

  • @onekittyhawk63

    I would put a tall block of wood or brick under each of the front wheels and chock the rear wheels. I would also put on brake and lock it. You never want to be under a riding mower and the hydraulic jack give way. It is not meant to hold weight...only to lift it until blocked or set on stands. Human bodies are not meant to hold up riding mowers.

    Nice video. It is miserable that Cub Cadet only use the fast attach blade system on the XT2.

    I own a 46" Cub Cadet XT1. There is no blade lock mechanism. You have to buy that from a third party dealer. Not a Cub product. The bolts holding my two blades are 24mm. You will have to wedge a piece of wood up against the blade to hold it. Or have someone hold the wood. That's the only way to take off the bolt. Unless you have an impact. Make sure your ramp won't be in the way of your power tool, like my riding lawn mower ramp. Bolts line up with the front wheels/ramp. Ugh!

    • @kickdowndoors4291
      @kickdowndoors4291 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @NonyaBusiness! - The idiot assemblers at the factory over torqued it. I don't know how since they use torque wrenches. You will need an impact gun to get it off. That's the only way.

    • @25newrush
      @25newrush 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same as mine but I just turned the ramp at an angle worked like a charm

    Yes, it appears you can use the front beam as it is marked "Cast Iron" I believe. I always am concerned about running the oil into the engine cylinders when jacking or tilting any mowers up... It is nice to have air tools as they work on those nuts real fast so I do not have to lock the blade in place.

    • @bladerunners7416
      @bladerunners7416  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the regular blades on the cub cadet cut well but I liked the gator blades better for the mulching capabilities. they seem to do a better job chopping up leaves when need be, but also work great for normal side discharge mowing as well.
