    Thank you so much! The owner's manual never mentioned that cable and spring and I didn't notice until I tried sliding the deck out!

    I think if I ever need to get a new lawn tractor, the first thing I’m looking for is how much of a pain is it to remove the deck! And this one is off the wish list!

      I've got the older version of this mower,the ltx1040 and not only is it a pain to take the deck off and reinstall, but other aspects of engineering are lacking. The deck is fairly deep,which is good for airflow,but the chute is small and it has a hard time dispersing clippings on all but the most manicured lawns. The antiscalp wheel brackets are somewhat flimsy and not gusseted at all. Its served me well enough over the years,but my next one will be a john deere.

    I cannot believe Cub Cadet changed the easy release deck design of the previous years! I got the XT1 thinking it was still the same. What a disappointment! This is way more difficult and time consuming than older models!

    Thank youtube and people like you every day for making these video's . I have a 42 inch cub cadet and prefer the spring bolt they use for deck much better . I bought my 46 inch one this past spring since i have over 3 acres and just rebuilt 42 inch spindles and bearings and cleaned the bottom of the deck and coated it with slip plate graphite to keep grass from sticking to the deck and put on new gator blades . Sealed bearings are garbage and zerk fitting was full of grease and took out bearings as per fixit4u on youtube and took off inside of seal and sure enough no grease in the bearins and how I know , my grease is green . I took off the inside seal of each bearing and redid them so grease could get in them . I wish I had known that years ago since this is the 3rd time . first time pulley on top of spindle ripped loose , but that was under warranty , so cub cadet had it fixed . I was trying to figure out every year why I had to replace bearings in the mower and now I know . Sad that cub cadet and others want to ruin a good mower . I am now going to redo the 46 inch and put on gator blades on it also

      It sounds like you must wash your tractor?? if you are replacing the bearings more than normal. I would suggest, never wash your machine as it will also ruin the bearings all over the tractor including the transmission idler pulleys. I see you do have 3 acers to cut and I'm sure that machine must get a work out! Thank you for watching and commenting. I'm glad this video was helpful.

    Excellent video. Two suggestions: It is quite easy to access the cotter pin that retains the cable from the left side of the mower. In fact, I pulled that pin first. Also, I used a large, flat-blade screwdriver to open tyhe pins up to make them easy to pull. Insert the blade between the support rod and the pin, give it a quarter turn, and it walks right out.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can only guess without seeing your machine but I would say the water and rinsing it may have rusted some parts. Disconnect your blade engagement cable and make sure the cable is running smoothly inside the outer cover. Then make sure your blade engagement arm in the mower deck is moving freely.

    Does any know why blades would be uneven on a 2019 42 inch cut? The blades are not bent they are brand new. The left side runs around perfect on the deck. The other side the blades is running about 1/4 inch below the deck.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Things to look for (1)If you installed new blades, they must come across each other evenly in the center or you will have a bad cut(2) adjust all tire pressure (3) level mower deck.(4) you may have to straighten your mower deck if you hit something in the past and by putting new blades on it still cuts uneven.

    I MIGHT REPLACE THOSE PINS I hate those things they are hard to get off . At least the oil cleanout is easier to get too than the one on my 42 inch mower I am thinking of getting a scew on extender for it and I am also going to replace all my old zerk fitting covers . The covers make it easier to keep those grease fittings cleaner on the wheels also . i see now they come in colors so they will be easier to see than my old black ones . I like the circle pins better not sure what they are called. I also like the closed glove compartment on my 42 inch cub cadet I keep oil wrench and tubing for oil clean out and a few other tools in it I may need .Plus I prefer the metal pulley covers my other 42 inch cub has those cheap plastic ones and screw that holds belt keeper inside all got loose so had to replace them with a longer screw with bolts ontop .42 inch has 188 hours on it now and new one has 28 hours on it . Idid not have to mow as much this summer . Plus while hubby was in the hospital after heart attack my nieghbors mowed my yard a couple of times for me . GREAT NIEGHBORS .

    Got a 50 inch deck Cub Cadet...Got wire wrapped around the blades do I have to remove the deck or is there an easier way?

      You will be better off removing the mower deck but bottom line It’s up to you on how hard it will be..

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines Thank you so much for responding. I don't think that i'm capable of removing the deck and putting everything back together correctly. Would it be ok to tip it on its side where the blades are exposed and do it that way? I just bought it last week and only have 6.5 hours on it don't wanna mess it up would laying it on it's side damage the motor in any way? Thanks for responding I really don't know what to do here.

      I do not recommend tipping machine on its side.

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines I was even thinking of draining the oil and gas before tipping it on it's side. I looked under it last night, looks like the wire wrapped up on top of the blades I guess that would be the spindle. I watched your video and you are very detailed on how to remove the deck but I just don't feel confident that I could do it successfully putting it back together. Would draining the oil and gas prevent damage to the engine if I tipped it on it's side?

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines Just thought I'd let you know that taking the deck off wasn't necessary at all. I pulled it up on some car ramps then pulled the car ramps out to the side by hand and had plenty of room to take the blades off and totally remove all the wire up on the spindle...30 minute job...No removal of deck necessary...👍💯

    Thanks for the video! Now, do a video reinstalling the deck. Getting the deck off was way easier than getting back on. Is there some hack to getting the blade cable clip. I’ve had my deck off twice, and this is the only hang up. It takes me a some time to get this clip back in place. I got lucky both try’s. Thanks

      Thanks so much. We are pretty much doing it the same way, but I don’t have the finesse that you have with this. Thank you.

    If you just push the bracket on the left side in it comes out the hole and you don't have to unscrew the other side. There is enough clearance to drop the belt

    I greatly prefer my Cub Cadet but the neighbors John Deere x300 deck removal kicks my Cubs ass.

    Poor design on these tractors, having to worry about that pully engage cable dangling when using it without the desk
