      Yeah it would make sense in many cases. Like why harry and ginny didnt get together earlier than the 5th book despite her liking him would be much easier explainable with houses between them. Ginny getting together with him in the 5th part is with her being a weasly and therefore likey to be in Dumbledores army still the expected outcome after harry getting to know her not as weasly or slytherin but individual. I like this scenario much more, since it explains the akwardness while having a better build up to overcoming these houses/lines.

    If she preferred Gryffindor over Slytherin then the Sorting Hat probably took that into account, like it did for Harry. And why wouldn't she? All her brothers and her crush are in that house. But yeah, thematically it would make a stronger story, and allow the books to grow beyond the stark good vs evil setup (which they did a little bit in the later books). And also really cement Harry as a well-developed character that overcame initial prejudices and learned to trust those he once wrote off as bad (again this growth is demonstrated somewhat in the later books with befriending Slughorn, and realizing Snape's role in his destiny, but for a childrens series could have been more overt).

Wanting to stick out and not conform with the expectations of her etc. But it wouldn't have worked unless they reworked the story a lot to accommodate things. Even Ron had issues with feeling invisible in his huge family. It wouldn't be unreasonable for someone in the family to want to become their own person rather than a product of their family's legacy.

    I would've loved a slytherin ally. Additionally, I would've liked to see more dark wizards from various houses. The only house that probably would have the least or no dark wizards would've been hufflepuff. Bravery and Justice take too far turns into a crusade or witch hunt. Knowledge taken too far turns into Dr Mengele or Unit 731. I supposed loyalty and love taken too far would be what happened to Queenie, so even hufflepuffs have a weakness to darkness.

    I'm just imagining about how Ginny would be in Slytherin and how the other Slytherins are like "I know she's a Weasley, therefore, extremely poor and loves muggles so much, but she IS a pureblood" and, like, accepts her being in the house but not accept her as a part of the house. I would actually not be surprise if Ginny ended up spending her years in Hogwarts striving to prove that her family isn't as bad as what her fellow Slytherins may think. I also think that she may attract the attention and respect of some of her housemates. Which she could potentially use to convince some Slytherins to fight for Hogwarts because that was what's right.

    • @ThatSoddingGamer
      @ThatSoddingGamer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      That's pretty great as an idea.
      Shame that, by the way the Sorting Hat works, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that she'd end up in Gryffindor, even if she happened to be similarly suited (or even more suited) for Slytherin. The pressure of her entire family behind her would make her lean towards Gryffindor, especially hearing the bad rep they have. It might be different if her home life was unpleasant, but as pointed out by Ben, she comes from a fairly loving and fun family. TBH, she'd have to be either an actual bad person, or just a really contrary person to 'switch sides' as it were, at the age of 11.
      Just one of those cases where it would be thematically interesting and work well in that respect, but just wouldn't make sense in the context of the setting it takes place in.

      @Brian Cairns yeah, it would have probably been more meaningful, like, they know all Death Eaters are Slytherins but what if those with non-Death Eater parents that was convinced by Ginny to help fight for Hogwarts? Having all four houses fight against one foe probably like their founders before Salazar parted ways with the others.

    A character who was in Slytherin who wasn't bad initially I would argue is Andromeda Black. Yes we don't know much about her but she grew up in one of the worst supremacist pure-blood families with Bellatrix and Narcissa as her sisters and being brainwashed but she realised that muggleborns were just like them and even married one, Ted Tonks. She let Harry, Hermione and Ron stay at her house during the second wizarding war and raised Remus' and Tonks' son. honestly i do wish jk rowling did try and add some more "good slytherins" instead of making them all sound like villains. as for ginny i think she could have done well in slytherin . i have been re-reading the entire series and i feel hermoine should have been in ravenclaw she shows more traits to ravenclaw then she does griffyndor, fred, george, and sadly percy should have been in slytherin as well. the twins were clever, determined and resourceful. percy had more leadership skills and ambition, so i feel that if jk rowling had done this it would have showed the lesson i got out of the book. it is your actions that define who you are not the house you come from. interesting video

  • @jordankonz
    @jordankonz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +368

    Another good way that the books could have done the "there are good Slytherins" thing, is by making the other Hogwarts champion a Slytherin during the Triwizard Tournament. Just think about it, after Harry gave them the clue about the dragons they would like throw a note a Harry giving him a tip about the mermaids cause they have seen them under the lake swiming past their common room windows every now and then since they were 11. The Slytherin Champion would also not agree to a tie, but just happen to touch the cup at the same time and fight with Harry until they couldn't. At the end of year feast the Slytherins would morn and the next year this would cause some of them to realize that Voldy was actually back. Some of them could even join the DA and the next year they could even teach some of the first years how to act like they were under the cruciotis curse, so they didn't have to get hurt. The Slytherins could also band together with the rest of the school when Voldy attacks. (like imagine some of the kids facing off against their parents, so cool!) Hogwarts isn't just home to three of the houses it is home to all four.

Fred and/or George would’ve fit in there given how they’re very ambitious about starting their shop and pranks and since they were often very “left out” from the family due to their different “ambitions”. Harry then think he’s gonna run off but instead Draco disarms Harry’s opponent, and then helps him up saying, “scared potter?” and Harry replies, “you wish,” and that’s the start of dracos redemption arc.
    Edit: people seem to like this so imma add some more ;)
    After this, Draco and Harry run together trying to find Ron and Hermione. They eventually run into the two and when Ron and Hermione see that the two boys are together and civil, Hermione drops the basilisk fangs that she is holding and Ron brandishes one as a sword, both of their mouths are wide open in shock.
    “Can we, uh, talk about this later?” Harry asks sheepishly, Ron and Hermione slowly nod their heads before coming out of shock, Hermione is the first of the two to say anything,
    “It seems like you both are finally embracing inter-house unity,” she says with small smile.
    “It seems we are Granger,” Draco says slowly, “Trust me when I say, my father won’t hear about this,”
    They all share a small laugh together before splitting up and going to fight for their freedom...

    I think Ginny being in Slytherin would have been such an interesting storytelling point. Not only would it add more dynamics to the story, but I think it would also open many more doors for character relatability. Personally, I didn't like Ginny as much as a character (she's cool but she isn't my absolute favorite). If she was sorted into Slytherin, she could have challenged any and all views that Harry had about Slytherin. And for me personally, him falling in love with her because of her prowess would make their love feel less forced; she wouldn't feel like a convenient romantic option. Given, yes, even in Gryffindor she had her own way of showing her prowess, but I don't know...she didn't really stand out to me.

    “Slytherin’s aren’t necessarily bad” -said by a Slytherin. Honestly in the base books it’s really quite a hard stretch to say a slytherin isn’t evil or bad. IF they weren’t all bad, there should have been many more diverse Slytherins in Harry’s year. It’s one of the weakest parts of the writing and the overall continuity. I think the books went horribly wrong with the direction it went for both slytherin and hufflepuff and it would have been much more interesting if this main friend group came from different houses. If Harry loved someone from a different house. I find it so hard to believe JK Rowling when she talks about adoring the other houses because if that was true, you’d think she would have written more about them.

Would have also been nice to see either Ginny or Ron in a different house. She was absolutely biased towards gryffindors and I wish the main group had not just been in the same house or we had seen more friends from other houses.

She's determined, cunning, ambitious like any Slytherin. I personally think Ginny is better as a Gryffindor because she values bravery and getting in on the action, as we learn in Order of the Phoenix when she decides to go to Department of Mysteries with Dumbledore's Army, in Chamber of Secrets, she along with all the other Weasleys depises the Malfoy family (and other Slytherins). In Order, she is very brave to help Harry and the others face the Death Eaters. And also, according to Wikipedia, Ginny is feisty, forceful and isn't afraid to speak her mind or stand up for herself.

Like he said, his point wasn't to prove that she fit the character traits more than Gryffindor it was to say it would have made the story better and he was right. So I don't think it's a stretch.

    I think all the weasleys ask to be in gryffindor. The book talks about how their parents are proud gryffindors and how they would be disappointed if their children weren't. I don't think they actually would be disappointed but I do think their children would think this, especially after Bill and Charlie both go to Hogwarts and get sorted into gryffindor. I think after Bill and Charlie, Percy should have gone to Ravenclaw or Slytherin and Ron should have gone to Hufflepuff. Along with worrying about disappointing their parents I think that we clearly see that they are looked down on a lot by the pure blood world and a lot of other wizards too so their parents would extra worry about them staying together so they have each other. I think the sorting hat sees all this and takes it into account.

    Can we also remember that Slughorn dueled against Voldey himself? You know, the teacher that 'understood' him the most? By the way, if I had to give a core material guess for Ginny's wand, I would say Unicorn Hair. I do study wandlore and I have to say that it is always interesting to see the difference in wands. Check out Cherry wands, Neville had a wand of Cherry with Unicorn, and Lockhart had a Cherry with Dragon wand, literally different spectrums.

    Here’s a random “theory” I came up with a couple weeks ago: The golden trio might have been able to use Accio on Hufflepuffs cup, instead of dealing with the curses it had. You might bring up the locket as a counterargument, which didn’t get summoned by Harry in the cave, but there’s a key point which disproves that counterargument. Harry tried to summon a horcrux and not a locket. So since there was no horcrux to summon, since the locket was a fake, nothing happened. As Dumbledore said, it’s not a bad idea to try the simple things first. So it’s possible that in the Lestranges vault they could’ve tried “Accio Horcrux” and it possibly would’ve just be summoned towards them, since there was a horcrux to summon in the first place.This theory probably isn’t true, but I think it’s an interesting thing to think about.

      In any case I'd probably try to accio the thing that the horcrux is in. Imagine you accidentally rip it out of the vessel and it just flies its snake face through you and leaves.

    • @turbo__unicorn3370
      @turbo__unicorn3370 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Leon B Did he specifically try to summon “locket” or did he summon “horcrux”? I forget the specific word he used. But the way Accio works you need to have a very specific thing in mind, so it’s possible that the limitations of the spell wouldn’t let Harry summon the Black locket if he was concentrating on the image of the Slytherin locket. I don’t think the spell needs you to be that specific though, it probably would’ve allowed Harry to summon it (if there were no other protections around it).

    Although I believe this could've opened up a lot of good and interesting plot points for the story and yes I think she does embody Slytherin traits it was important for her to be in griffindoor. It is crucial for the Weasleys to be a united front and though Molly and Arthur wouldn't have loved her any less, her being in a different house would've caused a separation of her and her family for the reader. The Weasleys are our rock, Harrys rock too; we feel safe when harry is with them (another reason why the death eaters crashing the wedding was important, that showed us that the stability we are accustom to is gone and the trio is on their own.) despite their financial troubles they are stable, loving, and the family Harry never had. So yes I think it would've been cool to see the possibility but it's important for her to follow in her family's footsteps.
